Worse experience with them, they are not taking the responsibility of the fault which was already there before I bought the car. And the staff gives you misleading information
I would strongly advise anyone considering Ridgway Cars to think very carefully before purchasing a vehicle from them. My experience has been extremely stressful and disappointing from start to finish.
Two days after purchasing the car, serious issues became apparent via an engine warning light that made me lose confidence in both the vehicle and the dealership. The car developed faults that should never have been present on a vehicle sold by a dealer, especially one advertised as having been properly checked and prepared for sale. I was left dealing with ongoing problems almost immediately after purchase, which caused major inconvenience and uncertainty. I took the car to an independent garage for a diagnostic after being told Ridgway couldn’t fit me in. They identified a significant set of faults that would cost into the thousands to repair.
What made the situation worse was the handling of the refund process afterwards. Communication was poor, timelines constantly changed, and I repeatedly had to chase for updates regarding a large sum of money owed back to me. What should have been a simple and professional process became drawn out and unnecessarily stressful. I was told different things by different people and at one point was even disconnected while trying to escalate the matter. From vehicle return to refund it took over three weeks.
I might also add that this garage charged me £200 for miles done in the vehicle in the week that I had it. This is unlawful as it was returned within be 14 day period and the consumer rights act prohibits this.
Overall, I did not feel treated with honesty, urgency or professionalism at any stage. One prominent staff member explaining to me that ‘this isn’t M&S you can’t just return it.’ I was encouraged to drive the car home after going to the garage to put the car back in their hands physically and wait for their communication with an engine light on. I was also told that leaving it back with them would be at my own risk.
I rarely leave negative reviews, but after this experience I feel other customers deserve to be aware before making a purchase. Do so at your own risk, and if you have a month to wait for a refund should anything go wrong.
Do not purchase a car from this dealership. Go to a main dealership. Avoid this garage at ALL costs. The ambiguity of not knowing when my large sum of money would be returned to me caused significant mental trauma.
I purchased a vehicle in march 2026, Cash and bought extended warranty £1500 from ridgway cars Romsey southampton. I didn't use the car for 2 weeks as I had to sell my old one and got the insurance changed, within 2 days of driving the vehicle the EMS engine light came on, I rang ridgeway cars of Romsey Southampton where I bought the vehicle (cash) and was told to take it to a garage as they couldn't look at it for 2 weeks. I took it to my local garage who questioned whether anyone had been working on it and I explained that I had just purchased it. they did a temporary repair but did say it needed to go to them as the light would come back on with which it did the next day. I again phoned but no answer and eventually had an email reply again saying there was a 2 week wait before they could look at it. I asked about a courtesy car as I had no transport as I work in Winchester NHS hospital, there reply was no they don't supply a courtesy car. I eventually managed to get the car to them which they kept for a week and emailed to say they had carried out extensive testing and some re-wiring (I have the paperwork of what they allegedly carried out). I picked the car up and drove less than half a mile when the EMS light came on again, I returned the car and showed the salesman and said I wanted a refund at this point and also mentioned that it was also difficult to get the car into gear. I then had to get to work via train as again no transport to get to work and had been travelling using train/buses which was becoming difficult. I believe I was mis-sold an unroadworthy car that had no service history, (they said they would service it before I took it but never did, which is stated on there advertisement add that they carry out a service before selling.). I was asked to return all paper work and V5 which I have done, then was told the refund can take up to 10 days to be completed. As an NHS professional I work on call and out of hours where no public transport is available so had to rely on taxis/trains in the early ours of the morning and up until my refund will still need to use this. I have yet to even receive an apology from the after care sales for the inconvenience they have caused me over the last 4-5 weeks and never come across such an couldn't care attitude from a business towards its customers. they have agreed a refund for the car but i am out of pocket regarding the extra warranty i was sold as they are saying its over 30 days which i am only entitled to 25% of the refund(when I initially raised the issue within 30 days so should be 50%)because of the waiting time accrued because of them regardless of the costs involved to myself regarding travelling to work which is still on going as i have no transport. i will still need time to look for another vehicle even when i am refunded. i will be over £2,000 out of pocket because of this and would like some guidance how i can retrieve this back as mentioned they have sold a car that they cannot repair and shouldn't have been sold to the public and guidance on how to report this to trading standards. i have contacted auto trader where i saw the advertisement and made them aware of the issues. I have finally received a full refund for the car which took 16 days including 2 weekends but this was only after I phoned and emailed why it wasn't paid within the 10 days.
