AVOID: Sold Unsafe Vehicle & Now Refusing Refund
I purchased a 2014 Mini for £4,700. Within 24 hours, the Engine Management Light appeared. An independent garage diagnosed a failing cam chain, broken swirl flap lever, egr valve and air mass issues, and labeled the car unsafe to drive.
Despite providing video evidence of the engine failure and a professional diagnostic report, the dealer is now denying all faults, claiming the noise is "normal for its age," and refusing my legal right to a refund under the Consumer Rights Act 2015.
They have had the car back for 19 days and are withholding £4,995 (including my recovery costs).
Another thing to keep in mind is how they upsell the 6 month warranty by asking you to leave a five star review in order to receive it, so I would take the five star reviews with a pinch of salt.
This matter is now with Trading Standards and if issues continue I will be seeking legal advice. Think twice before buying from here; they do not respect consumer safety or the law.

For the benefit of others I am sharing my unfortunate two and a half year dealing with north west autos (NWA). I would also encourage you to not be taken in by what at face value appears to be largely positive reviews. If you filter down the reviews to the one star ones, you will see there are a considerable amount of people who have had a very negative experience with them.

I bought a Peugeot 207 in October 2023, it was a 12 year old car with 33k miles on the clock. Within ten days an inherent fault developed on the vehicle. Four trips to north west autos later between November '23 and April '24, the matter was not resolved. Throughout this time I was met with poor communication and delays that ultimately drew the issue out longer.

When I wanted to return the car in April 2024 due to their being no prospect of repair, it was pointed out by NWA that they would have the right to make deductions for usage as per the Consumer Rights Act 2015. By this point in time the car had covered approximately 9k miles and therefore they advised such deductions for them to buy the car back would likely be significant and 'could be the value of the car.' They seemed keener to push for a part exchange and therefore me parting way with more money! I wasn't prepared to be railroaded into a deal that would evidently be more in their favour then the customer.

I complained to the motor ombudsman (TMO) in April 2024 as NWA at the time were a member and supposedly signed up to their code of ethics. I didn't receive a judgment from them until February 2025, by this point the car had been off the road since September 2024 and I ended up in more debt buying a replacement vehicle. The motor ombudsman ruled in my favour, they provided an objective formula to account for what a fair deduction should look like. NWA thought that 45p per mile was supposedly a reasonable deduction. If you would apply such a deduction back to April 2024 and the 9K miles driven then, this would mean a deduction more then the value of the car. A car purchased only 5 months earlier and still with only 42K miles on the clock. NWA then stopped communicating with the motor ombudsman and voluntarily withdrew from the scheme. This meant that their decision could no longer be binding. TMO also documented that the customer service provided fell well below their standards and ordered that NWA should also issue a written apology. Needless to say I'm still waiting on that...

The motor ombudsman had however applied statutory law in their judgement, in particular the CRA 2015, NWA the key operative word here is 'reasonable' regarding deductions! I therefore issued small claims court proceedings against NWA. Again this was another lengthy process and one that left me temporarily out of pocket more money, with around 550 pounds in court costs that I had to initially front up. The amount offered at court ordered mediation by NWA wasn't even half of what TMO ruled that I should receive. Needless to say this was rejected. in their witness statement to the court, NWA actually said I had been supposedly the obstructive party in reaching a resolution!

In the end in March this year, I was awarded the full amount as per the TMO decision plus NWA ended up with the added amount of court costs and interest. It's disappointing that a business that advertise having hundreds of cars in stock have dug their heels in so much and let things go to court over a relatively cheap car. Rather then looking to reach a fair compromise on the matter for a customer who they let down massively. They also throughout the process downplayed the fault and even went as far as far as to say that upon their inspections of the car that a fault couldn't be found. I took video evidence of the fault that clearly showed this not to be the case, as well as taking the car to two independent mechanics, that NWA were also made to pay the invoices for in court.

Based on my experience I would keep hold of your money and save yourself a potential headache!

I chose a Kia Picanto 2010 (silver) from this dealership. Their marketing is good, but they do not act on their promises. They said the car would be ready in 7 days, but it took over 17 days. During this time, I was constantly messaging them on WhatsApp, calling on the phone, and following up via email. Whenever I spoke on the phone, I was told that Mr. XXX was not available and would call me back - yet I never received any call. Due to this lack of communication and delay, I lost confidence and requested a refund. I cannot recommend this dealership.

Absolutely disgusting customer service, I was originally told that my £10k van would be ready within the week so I went ahead as I was assured everything would be ok. I informed them that I was having to rent out another van whilst the prep work was being done on my new one at a cost of £220.00 a day so feeling reassured I went ahead 4 weeks later still no van one excuse after another I had one person return my calls after repeated promises but to no avail. I rang them yet again today but apparently the mechanic didn’t get in until 10am the supervisor didn’t get in until 2pm and the guy I was talking to was part time and couldn’t communicate with the update of my van with the garage department. I have spoken to one of the guys there and reassured Rease “the supervisor would definitely call me back” but hey no phone call, no update, no communication absolutely disgusting. It’s now going to cost me over £2300 to rent a van out. I was told a week now we are into week 5. Do not use this company. You are totally fobbed off, there is no communication I’m left over the bank holiday non the wise!!! So I’m assuming it’s going to be another week and another £1200.00 renting another van out???? WHO knows watch this space .

Had a very satisfactory experience buying a 2017 Jaguar XE Prestige form North West Autos. I dealt with Will & bAdam nd both were very friendly knowledgable and professionl from start to finish.
When collected the car it was presented in a fantastic condition and drove beautifully.
I would recommend anyone looking foir a used car to try North West Autos as they have a massive selection of cars to suit all price ranges.

I honestly don’t know how this place is still in business. I bought a car from North West Auto Trade in Blackburn two months ago, and it has been nothing but trouble.

From the moment I drove it off the lot, the engine management light came on. I called them immediately, and they fobbed me off saying it was "just a sensor" and that I should bring it back at my own expense. When I finally got it back to them, they gave me the runaround for weeks, claiming they were "too busy" to look at it.

Turns out the clutch was on its last legs and the timing chain needs replacing—a £1,500 repair bill. When I asked them to contribute to the cost since I only had the car for a matter of weeks, the owner just shrugged and said "sold as seen."

The car wasn't even valeted properly; there was rubbish left in the glovebox and the "full service history" they advertised turned out to be a bunch of random receipts that didn’t match the car's mileage. The staff are rude, unhelpful, and clearly just want to shift lemons to unsuspecting buyers.

Avoid at all costs. Go to a reputable dealer in Blackburn—these guys are cowboys.

If I could give 0* I would… the most horrendous experience and company.

We reserved this car after speaking to them, seeing it online, assured everything was done and would collect at 2pm.
Arrived and the car was not ready. Apparently needed a spring and they had 4 incorrectly delivered.
We waited and waited. We were told they would sort warranty but they asked us to post a 5* review first…. Interesting…the car came out at 5pm at the same point the dealership was closing. The car was dirty/ no handover. We drove 200 yards down the road and the car started smoking from the exhaust- white smoke. Horrendous eggy smell.
Rang the guy who sold us it and he said ‘it’s an additive’. I returned the vehicle as it was clearly the head gasket.
Had voice notes from Reece to say it’s their error and we can return it, they would pay for my uber home ( over £100) so we did. But then came the difficulty of them refusing fault despite having evidence!!!

Vehicle subsequently been returned and waited weeks and weeks for a refund after the issues.

Dodgy, back street garage. All reviews are fabricated as they push you to write reviews fraudulently,

I recently bought a car from this dealership and received excellent customer service from start to finish. Nico, the salesman, was very helpful and gave great advice when I was choosing the car. I never felt pressured and the whole process was smooth and straightforward.

After purchasing the car, one of the headlights developed a fault. Nico booked the car in straight away and Paige dealt with the aftercare and arranging everything. They ordered a new headlight and fitted it at a time that was convenient for me.

Fantastic service both during the sale and afterwards. I would definitely recommend them to anyone looking to buy a used car.

Why they don’t have basic human decency when I’m trying to ask about something which was my property after having bought it from them in good faith. Bought an Audi recently and they were very happy to have me buy the car and push the sales. Even telling all customers to leave them 5 star reviews in exchange for a warranty on the car. Which is unethical and illegal by the way. Even with a so called warranty they want to avoid any responsibility whatsoever regarding anything that is not right with the car. Extremely shady behaviour from the garage might as well not offer any warranty in the first place then. If you do take some responsibility and acknowledge what is going on. And the fact if you give your car it’s next to gone, the after sales so called busier than the prime minister who can never answer a phone to one of their customers but if I call regarding purchasing a car I am instantly through and the car is ready within the next few minutes

This was the worst car-buying experience I have ever had. The staff were very unfriendly and seemed interested only in taking my money. They were unwilling to answer my questions and appeared to be in a hurry to complete the paperwork. I will never return to this Northwest garage and would strongly recommend that others be very cautious before purchasing a car there.

Having looked for a number of weeks for the right car, I decided to go for a 2011 plate Audi A5 cabriolet that was on sale at North West Autos. Having paid the £200 deposit, I arranged to travel 180 miles up to Blackburn on Saturday 27th September 2025 to inspect and purchase the vehicle. All was good when I got there, the car met expectations and the test drive was fine, so I decided to pay the balance and to drive the car away.
However, when it came to the paperwork, the advertised full service history, which was fully displayed in a number of photos an the AutoTrader listing, was not with the car's documentation. When I asked about this, I was told by the salesman (Will) that the service history and owners manual was in the safe, which could not be unlocked until the following Monday. He assured me that it would be posted to me first thing on the Monday, and I took him at his word.
In retrospect, I should have got this assurance in writing, but his manner inspired confidence, so I took him at his word.
Over the course of the following week, the paperwork did not arrive, so I called to find out what had happened. I spoke to one of the sales people (I don't remember his name), and he insisted that the paperwork woudl have been in the car (it wasn't). I told him as much, and he said that the dealership would search for it, even chasing others who had bought cars on that same day and could have been given the wrong documents for their car. This exchange went on for a number of weeks, until it became clear that the paperwork was not to be found.
I had paid the full price for the car, but I now had a car that was worth a lot less, so I said as much to Paige, in After Sales, copying and pasting an article on the internet that suggested at least a 20% impact on the resale value of the car.
I requested that this 20% be repaid to me, as this was entirely the fault of North West Autos, but I was told that, because I did not have the assurance in writing that the documentation would be forthcoming, no refund of any kind would be offered. The communication of this decision, athough made by Cameron (Director?) was delegated to Paige, and I was not permitted to speak to Cameron at any stage.
I was invited, however, to bring the car back up to Blackburn for part exchange on another vehicle, less mileage at 75p per mile and any other deductions for damages or wear. This, on top of a 360-mile round trip and the time this would take, has rendered such a venture so cost-ineffective as to be ridiculous.
In summary, what really irritates me, apart from having paid over the odds for my car, is the refusal on the part of North West Autos to take any responsibility for their not being able to supply the advertised service history, and the cowardly and unprofessional refusal of their director to speak to me directly to justify such a one-sided solution to a problem that was not of my making.
