My cat Max was almost 22 years old and…

My cat Max was almost 22 years old and had been looked after by New Priory from the date of his adoption over 17 years ago, I went to buy 3 months Flea treatment, however he collapsed the next day and lost the ability to walk, he was humanely put to sleep by vets2pets at home, I went and asked for a refund of the untouched unopened medication, I was told I would get an e mail that day as it required managerial authorisation . no e mail was ever sent, they had over prescribed his blood pressure medication by around 3 months, we had discussed the likelihood of him living more than a few months. I feel ripped off and lied to at a time of great sadness and no longer trust this vet practice. Being lied to has made me angry, and when I adopt another cat will not use New Priory again

Firstly, please accept my deepest sympathies after your recent loss of dear Max. I am sure this is a sad time for you.

I understand you have returned medication to us 'Stronghold' packet of 3. The rules around handling of all veterinary medications are very strict and these are governed by the law by Veterinary Medicines Directorate. If we breech these clear laws, we are at risk of losing our license to practice. As such I can reassure you returned medication would never be returned to stock as this breaches law and we risk being shut down. We are inspected regularly, several times a year and these are often unannounced visits. Any returned medications are disposed of.
I have copied our Practice Statement on returning medication below:
In some circumstances, there may be occasions where you end up with a surplus amount of medication from your pet. With some types or medications or large quantities this can end up being quite a large cost. We often get asked if we are able to refund and/or reuse this medication.

Sadly we are not able to refund/reuse medication or food that has left the building due to the inability to provide proof of the storage conditions.

Nearly all medications have storage conditions that take into account temperature, light, position and humidity. Whilst we do completely understand that it is highly unlikely that these conditions have been breached, we cannot provide evidence of the chain of storage conditions outside of our control, should we be able to reuse the medications for another animal.

From wholesaler to the practice and whilst in the practice the storage conditions are monitored and recorded. This security stops as soon as the drugs leave the building.

The Reception Team were quite correct in their response to you and they cannot take action without direct advise from the Management Team. However, as a long a loyal client of New Priory, I am happy to take the Stronghold back and issue a refund, especially as I see you only collected a few weeks ago. Although please be reassured this medication will not be returned to stock or resold.

If you would like to call Reception during office hours, I will ask them to issue a refund for the £42.41.

Regarding the blood pressure medication, this was prescribed on 3rd December for a 3 month period which tallies with what Max would've needed in his final months.

Lucky's final moments

I would just like to say how grateful I am for every ones compassion and kindness, Although the outcome was not what I wanted. It was Lucky's time to go to Rainbow bridge. I know I could not have found a more lovely person than Susie Lucky's vet. Not only was she compassionate and kind to Lucky, but she was to me too. I am slowly coming to terms with the loss of my lovely cat Lucky and I know there was no other way. I would also like to thank Priory vets for the lovely wooden box you sent Lucky's ashes home in. Lucky will now have a grave made for his ashes and I am going to buy a tomb stone for my lovely cat. Once again many thanks to every one for your sympathy and kindness

Money for nothing and a cat that limps

My kitten started having raspy breathing and sneezed blood. I took her in immediately and was told that she had to stay in overnight, which would cost £1500. All that money later and all they could say was that "further diagnostics are required". They are a never ending money pit. When I got my kitten home she was unable to walk because of the way that they had inserted an IV drip into her leg. It's now a week later and she still can't walk normally.

I then went down the natural route and my cats breathing immediately improved and she has now fully healed. I would suggest buying "Methylene Blue DMSO Healing Bible for dogs and cats" by Louis Parsons. Unlike toxic pharmaceuticals, there are no side effects and it treats a multitude of maladies, including kidney disease which an allopathic vet can't treat successfully at all. The vet scoffed when I suggested Methylene Blue saying that it was unsafe and that they used "EVIDENCE BASED" methods. Well, she needs to look at the study called "Safety Profile of Oral Methylene Blue in Domestic Cats" (Journal of Veterinary Pharmacology, 2020) and speaking of EVIDENCE BASED - the evidence is quite clear that you can spend £1500 on your cat at New Priory Vets and be none the wiser as to what is wrong with them.

*edit to response below: My name and the date of my experience is stated below so they know the case of my kitten very well. And then there is the gasglighting: My cat walked perfectly fine before her appointment. If you google: "cat limping after IV at vets" you will see many results of cases of people describing this exact issue due to unskilled vets - and here the vets deny that. Of course they can only follow a highly inept allopathic model. I'm not sure whether their thinking is due to institutional blindness or whether they are knowingly lying. They love to refer to their studies but don't seem to take into account that their "studies" were funded by the very people that profit from them. Even something as basic as flea and ear mite treatment can be dealt with diatomaceous earth which is super cheap and completely non toxic. Their solutions cause seizures and death and yet they will always describe safe non pharmaceuticals as "anecdotal and not evidence based" - when we clearly see the horrendous outcomes of their interventions.

It took literal pennies to cure my cat via methylene blue after the £1500 and the mess left by them and they were still scratching their heads muttering about needing "further diagnostics" (cha-ching). There are over 50 000 studies on pubmed showing that DMSO and methylene blue treat a myriad of illnesses with no side effects. Even salt is toxic in large doses and the hypocrisy of saying that DMSO is toxic when they use the worst of treatment methods is hilarious. The fact that the average review rating of this vet practice is 1 star pretty much says it all.

I am sorry your recent experience at New Priory Vets has fallen short of your expectations. It is difficult to comment on your case without details of yourself and your cat. I would however like to make a few comments. You state your kitten had breathing problems and was sneezing blood, clearly this suggests a very serious medical problem and diagnosis of the cause can be very complicated and may involve many tests, including blood samples, x-rays, CT scan and endoscopy. The fact that your kitten had a catheter placed into the vein suggests that she required intravenous medication and fluid therapy to stabilise and start some treatment. Carrying out initial tests, hospitalising and stabilising her with constant veterinary and nurse care and monitoring throughout the night clearly comes at some significant cost and it would be our normal practice for this to be given as an estimate and discussed with you at the time of examination and admission. Please do email me if you believe this was not the case..

It does concern me that you state your kitten still cannot walk normally. It is NOT normal 7 days post i/v catheterisation and would indicate there is something else amiss. This needs urgent medical assessment and attention. Placing an i/v catheter in the tiny leg of a kitten can be tricky and whilst the catheter is in situ, it is common for kittens to find this difficult to bend the leg and walk, but once the catheter is removed this should immediately resolve. There is only a small area leg catheters can be placed and I don't see how a catheter can be poorly placed and this causing the symptoms you describe? Without veterinary assessment how can you be sure that your kitten's inability to walk properly isn't some neurological or septic issue and a progress of her clinical condition?

Further to your comments on Methylene Blue DMSO- I have read the article you mention. This is NOT 'evidence based' medicine- this is not a controlled study, but merely confirms the safety of this product and NOT the efficacy of it. DMSO is a free radical scavenger and has some anti-inflammatory properties, but also can be toxic! This is not some new wonder drug that 'cures all', it has been around for over 40 years and its use in human and veterinary medicine has been trialled and as yet there is no clinical evidence to if efficacy, but purely anecdotal reports.

Money money money

Money money money, huge rip off. The vet industry is yet another scam, we are being fleeced when at our most vulnerable. The cost of any treatment is astronomical, this industry has become disgusting. I have been rinced several times by New Prior Vets in Brighton. I don't know how they can feel good about the job, it's not the vets getting rich, they're working for billionaire scum.

Veterinary fees have increased significantly over the last decade. We are now able to offer many facilities and treatments that we couldn't before. We have made amazing progress in treatment and diagnostic capabilities but this alongside the veterinary surgeons expertise and knowledge does come at a cost. This is without taking into consideration other factors such as practice running costs and the economy in general.
We do offer a Pet Health Club that provides clients generous discounts on treatment and preventative health and we would always advise pet insurance to our clients to protect you if and when things do go wrong.

A review giving people some information..

I wrote a previous reviews mentioning how wonderful this vets used to be when I first starting taking my pets here 15 odd years ago. It was a small but extremely caring vet with reasonable prices. But that is a long gone thing of the past and making money is clearly the number one priority. I still have found the vets themselves mostly lovely and very caring it must be said, but there is still an underlying pressure on them to make money. I saw an article this morning on bbc news about vets and costs and that has driven me to this review today so that people are informed. Anyone who is interested, only has to do a little digging to see that this vets is currently owned (not sure of the exact takeover timeline), by a company called Independent vetcare ltd., which is stated on their website. That company in turn is owned by a big multi corporation called IVC Evidensia. Nestle owns shares in this company! It’s run by a Norwegian billionaire. In 2022 alone they made 1.2 billion in revenue. I personally will be trying to seek out if there are any independently owned vets left in this country, if I ever feel I can afford to own a pet again. Failing that fees are half the price in France apparently!

Dental care rip-off

We were with this vet for a while and had no issues with the individual vets. But when the time came for a routine dental check for our dog last year (2024) with teeth clean and a check-up, the estimated bill was ludicrous. We were quoted a minimum of £800 for sedation and a clean, with costs piling up from there should she need an extraction or other treatment. The 'average' dental bill for a Labrador of her age was around £3000, they said. We asked for a breakdown to see where the costs lay, and there appeared to be a lot of unnecessary items, including blood tests they insisted were compulsory. We could not afford such a ridiculous bill, with the result our pooch suffered for a few weeks till we found an alternative. We had her teeth cleaned by another local vet early this year, plus a single cheap blood test (the others were all deemed unnecessary), sedation and two extractions, for £350. The vets were surprised by our New Priory quote and said their own dental bills for a dog were capped at £1500. New Priory is a rip-off.

Great vet, awful practices following

The vets are amazing however, the service and lack of empathy and compassion after having our dog euthanised was disgusting. Had an email within the hour asking to settle invoice before They would arrange end of life options!! In the last paragraph I had a standard sentence offering condolences. I loathe everything about new priory, they are overpriced, with insincere desk staff, money grabbing people who need to rethink why many of people have either the same opinion or are only with them for convenience.

Great treatment. Appalling service

The treatment my dog got from the various vets who treated her during her emergency admission were outstanding. She was rushed into hospital last weekend and I paid the bill of just over £3,000 before she came home. Clearly it was not easy to find this sort of money unexpectedly just after Christmas. New Priory now tell me they will take three to four weeks to send the claim to my insurance company because they are so busy!! This is completely unacceptable. If they can't cope then they should employ more staff! I am now left thousands of pounds out of pocket because of their failings.

Heart breaking Experience with New Priory Vets, Brighton

I am absolutely devastated and disgusted by the way New Priory Vets has handled the passing of my beloved cat, Holly. After paying for an individual cremation on the day of her passing, I was reassured that Holly would be cremated with care and that I would be contacted when her ashes were ready. Three weeks later, I received an email stating Holly was still at their facility, un cremated, and being offered cremation options again—despite me having already made all arrangements and paid for it.

This kind of negligence is not only unprofessional but deeply hurtful. To know that my poor cat has been lying there for weeks due to their mishandling is beyond heart breaking. I have received vague and automated responses to my follow-ups, offering no real accountability or resolution, and their so-called "management" response is a joke—claiming it could take 14-30 days to address this.

I have lost all trust in New Priory Vets and would advise anyone considering their services to think twice. This has caused me unimaginable emotional distress during an already difficult time. I sincerely hope no other pet owner has to go through what I’ve experienced.

Sort this out immediately.

6 weeks later our dog is still in their freezer waiting to be cremated

We took our dog in as an overnight emergency and she sadly had to be put to sleep the next day, and the service we had during that time from the vets was great- caring and considerate but the aftercare has been terrible.
We have been chasing to get our dog’s ashes back for three weeks (we were told a three week turnaround) only to find out today that she hasn’t even been sent for cremation yet and they still have her! Apparently they are not sent until payment has been completed in full which was not explained to us at all at the time, and as we did a direct claim through our insurers had no control over how long that took. Once the excess had been paid after the claim was settled (over two weeks ago) she should have been sent off immediately but there was “a miscommunication” apparently and no one seems to have chased up any of the previous three phone calls to work out what had happened and even call us back with an update.
Our vet Wilbury have them as their out of hours vet but I am going to speak to them and see if we can elect to use someone else in future. Terrible admin service, and having spoken to local pet owning friends they have a reputation and are not to be used. We certainly won’t. Avoid.

I've had quite a lot of bad experiences with these vets.
1) The receptionist telling me they can't diagnose just by looking at the animal after asking about how to tell if the anal glands on my dog are blocked. I.e. go ask a vet if vet nurse if you don't know like any helpful caring person would.

2) I feed foxes in my garden I have had meds to help with mange and parasites from them before. Yet when one of them who was really badly ill and we wanted treatment for it, I was told "we don't treat wild animals" by them. Even though we have a profile for the foxes on our the vets system. Because the Wildlife rehab centre couldn't take him and we couldn't find help anywhere else we went to them. But they were really heartless about it and arranged an appointment for the fox even though it had deteriorated a lot in a short space of time. They were only willing to put the animal to sleep even when we offered to pay fir it's treatment even though legally they should recoup the costs themselves.

3) I took my dog there before only for my dog to be called a disgusting creature by the vet for it'd explosive diahorrea. He was having his temperature taken. Also, I said he had gastro enteritus only for the vet to smirk and said it was sickness and diahorrea and then went on to overcharge me anyway.
At a later date I discussed this with a vet and it was excused rather than treated seriously.

4) They treat you like you're stupid and talk down to you. There's an attitude towards (some) customers. There's no apology for things they have done wrong it's excused. For example I have PTSD due to my previous dog being attacked and having his leg amputated. So going to a vets makes me very nervous, but I feel like there's no understanding there when I'm very uncomfortable when my dog screams in pain when emptying his anal glands. He doesn't tend to squeal when it's emptied from the outside, but also due to my dog being a chihuahua abd so small, I would have thought common sense would be not to empty his glands from the inside especially as its more comfortable for him and me. But I feel like vets are very cold to animals suffering.
I have to remind them to do it from the outside because my dog reacts a lot less and it's less triggering for me too.
I've been in tears a number of times

5) They are more expensive than other vets

6) I booked to see a vet, but then it ended up being with a different vet and nurse when there usually isn't. I felt there was an attitude towards me during the appointment. At the end he asked me about my 1 star review I gave. Not apologise for my experience..I felt very much like he just wanted to humiliate me. During the appontment i felt he was trying to make me out that I was overworrying about my dog and humanising him. I know my own dog

Very covert abusive behaviour from a couple of vets in particular. There's obviously a toxic work place.

Highly recommend

We had to use the emergency veterinarian last Saturday, it was a really stressful and traumatic experience as my French Bulldog had an awful accident and everything happened quite fast so I must apologize I have forgotten the name of the lovely Vet who we saw, she was calm, kind, reassuring, open and genuinely caring which was greatly appreciated, she got to work straight away, trying to find a specialist to refer us too, which took some dedication. I'm fortunate to have a dear friend who is my dogs vet, who was with me every step of the way, the vet at New Priory vet was open to suggestion from my friend regarding a specialist they hadn't heard of and went straight to work trying to get us referred which they did, and I am so grateful for their quick thinking, efficient working, communication, kindness & great care. They looked after Homer (French bulldog) with such care and they were patient with me on my panicked state, we both felt very well looked after and are so grateful for this.

DO NOT TAKE YOUR PET HERE

My elderly cat was referred to their cardiologist as his vets thought he may have heart murmur. The first alarm bells should have been the cost of the 'tests' which within 5 mins went up by £2000. My cat was elderly but was eating, sleeping, walking and breathing absolutely fine before the 'tests'. He was heavily sedated when we picked him up and when he eventually came round he couldn't walk, eat or breathe. Within hours I took him to another practice where he was put down, he died needlessly. If he had not gone to them , he would still be alive. Do not trust them, they have no duty care to your precious pet. Please contact the following body so their practices and in particular their cardiologist can be looked into. They will continue in the malpractices if they aren't stopped.
Please please take time to write to the RCVS and lodge your complaint.

just the best around…

Its just the level of care given to my dog from everyone ive ever seen at the practice, you can plainly see there love for the animals, and i would neverr go anywhere else

My dog had visited the new priory…

My dog had visited the new priory peacehaven practice several times with a lame front leg seeing different vet each time £279.00 To date
Same old routine but could not find nothing wrong just told me to see the girl on the reception to pay my bill or buy more antibiotics/pain killers.
The last visit was a quick 2 minute consultation for £55.00 and i would say in that short time spent was with her back to me inputting her non finds into the computer. This was the last straw.
I had no choice but to take my dog to another vet and found she had a Thorn imbedded in her paw, I rang new priory the next day and all they could say was book another appointment next week. I was so upset that something so common was missed. Its just about the money with this vets.
Very poor service provided.
My dog suffered because of there neglect. I even asked for a breakdown of the bill as no treatment was prescribed!! but they would not supply , Should have billed them for wasting my time and money.
Let alone-the stress of my dog .
They might not be good at examinations but there very good at chasing you for money as I’ve found Since .
It’s a shame as when I first visited this practice they spent more time with your pet it’s now a quick turnaround like cleaning a plane.
Definitely would not recommend this vets to anyone.

My dog was referred to the New priory Veterinary hospital Brighton …

My dog was referred to this veterinary hospital because of restricted breathing through his nose and admission date was fixed and I paid £500 deposit when we arrived the vet came out spoke to me for about five minutes he didn’t recommend really the surgery be done took my dog away came back in about 6 minutes the prices jumped from £2500 to £3000 for investigation we decided to think about it went home and asked for a refund of my £500 they took £216 for that visit.So far I have been unable to ascertain exactly what this £216 was for. there’s been no breakdown of cost. I’ve got a spreadsheet which wasn’t accurate in fact it was fraudulent because nothing on there had been done. I am still waiting in plain English what cost so much money.
