Since I was removing money from my account to move to a bank at a higher interest rate, the staff were polite, efficient and did not make me feel awkward in the circumstances.

I had need to contact MHBS with reference to my account.
I received great customer service from Emma.
She was friendly and gave concise information.
Emma is a great asset to the Building Society.

I found the application process long-winded and the method of funding the account through another bank convoluted. It took several days for money to reach my account with Market Harborough.

Spoke to MHBS about investing in their current Bond Product. Very easy to communicate with friendly and helpful. Made the process of investing easy, can recommend as a good interest rate also.

Extremely disappointed at how Market Harborough handled my attempt to open a fixed rate savings account online.
I have opened numerous accounts over the years, and have never had a problem with any organisation.
Opened the account online and was expecting the usual welcome email, together with details of how to fund the account.
I received an email asking for photo ID and a copy of my linked bank statement.
My photo ID uploaded ok, but the capture of bank statement kept coming up with an error message. So I sent a pdf of my bank statement.
I was then sent another email asking for another copy of my bank statement. Again nothing worked, all I got was an error message, so I phoned and spoke to a very nice, well spoken lady, who said she would send me yet another link to upload the statement.
I received the email, clicked the link, and it said "information request has been submitted", so I assumed that the previous upload had been received.
I received no email for a few days, so I emailed customer services asking what the issue was and please could I have an update.
Market Harborough did not respond.
I telephoned again and asked for clarification. I spoke to the same lady, who although was polite, was extremely robotic and offered zero feedback. I explained that i had recently sold a property and had a substantial amount to invest and because the rates were good, I was keen to proceed with Market Harborough. I asked what the issue was, was it the upload, was it they were facilitating so many applications that things were taking time, or was it anything else ? She offered zero information and said someone would contact me from the account opening team.
I heard nothing for about 7-10 days and then received a generic email saying the application was no longer proceeding. No explanation, no nothing.
I accept that errors can occur, or there maybe some discrepancy, but having spoken twice on the phone it would have been nice to have been told what the issue was, which I am sure could have been rectified. I have had accounts for over 40 years with many banks etc and have never had a problem ever with opening an account, until now.
I sent a further email requesting to know why the account could not be facilitated, to which I have yet to receive the courtesy of a reply.
I can't say to anyone do not work with this building society, as the reviews are extremely good and the interest rates are also very good, which makes my experience even more surprising.
I will amend this review accordingly once I receive a reply, if I actually get one.

Still trying to log on line. Having awful experience as you have to have a mobile phone signal and I live in a remote area which is impossible. Really dissapointed as they look like they have some good interest rates I wanted to take advantage of.

Emma was very helpful in giving me info i could have got from the website but i prefer talking to a human particularly when that person is friendly, helpful and knowledgeable.

Although staff member was unable to offer a private room to process my change in accounts (which I didn't expect, having not made an appointment), she offered to make the changes (i.e. close and account and open two new ones) at the time and without me having to make an appointment. The process was also very quick.

I've paid my money into the account and send a question which hasn't been answered ... that was over a week ago and ive no idea where i stand .. communication ... come on !!

Very good rates of interest, plans that suit, able to call an speak to an assistant, very friendly and fully informative, has branches, and able to keep check on line.. ticks all the boxes.
