Had my periodical medical today. The clinician I had was the same as last year. Shumon Ahmed. He was brilliant and very professional at all times. He answered any questions that I had. He put me at ease as I was nervous about the medical.
He is a great asset to Medigold and should be commended.

I was referred to Medigold by my employer following a serious autonomic stress-related collapse, and my experience of their service was deeply concerning.

The clinician assigned to my assessment appeared unfamiliar with autonomic nervous system conditions. For example - when I explained my diagnosis, he asked, “Is that like a mental breakdown?” - language I found inappropriate and indicative of a lack of relevant clinical understanding. I repeatedly had to explain my condition during the assessment.

Throughout the consultation, the clinician was impatient and pressuring. My symptoms are nuanced and fluctuate significantly, yet I was repeatedly pushed to give binary answers to complex questions, despite expressing discomfort that this was not appropriate for my situation. The emphasis appeared to be on securing a rapid return-to-work commitment rather than understanding risk or supporting recovery.

At one point, when I resisted being pushed into agreeing to a definitive return-to-work timeline that I felt was unsafe, the clinician persisted until I gave a provisional answer, then remarked, “Got there in the end didn’t we?” - which felt patronising and unprofessional to me.

I was later sent the report for review prior to release to my employer. While much of it was acceptable, it included a recommendation for a rapid return to high-intensity duties that had not been discussed or agreed during the consultation. I raised concerns that this could increase the risk of relapse and asked for this section to be amended.

Medigold took almost a week to respond, and declined to amend the report, refusing any further discussion. Faced with the prospect of undergoing another unpleasant assessment, I felt compelled to release the report as-is and separately clarify the situation directly with my employer to protect my health.

Overall, I found Medigold’s processes rigid, insensitive, and insufficiently responsive to complex or non-standard clinical presentations. The experience itself significantly exacerbated my symptoms and caused a marked increase in anxiety during an already vulnerable period.

Based on my experience, I would urge caution for anyone with complex, stress-related or autonomic conditions who requires a careful, collaborative occupational health assessment.

I had an Occupational assessment with Mary Rose yesterday. I was nervous and didn't know what to expect. I felt listened to, respected , empowered and motivated bye my interaction. Felt my best my wellbeing and best interests was a priority. Skillfull and proffesional communication that was person centred and still personable and human. Thankyou so much and restored my confidence that large companies such as medigold still have that " human touch". A particular thanks to Mary Rose.. a good person.
