Runs our local pub into the ground
Runs our local pub into the ground. We have only one pub in our entire rural area, the Ship Inn in Wincle in the Peak District National Park. There have been 5 different managers in the past 8 years. It's shut now, again, for the forseeable. And if experience serves, will be shut again for the next 3 months. JW Lees know it's in a hotspot for walkers and tourists, so charge incoming managers a fortune, then gouge them for rent, and their overpriced barrels of ale. Successive managers make the best of it with just about every pub-based event they can think of, but due to the extortionate costs Lees charge their managers, no-one can make a viable go of the place. Which is a shame. It's a really lovely historic pub in an area that's been described as 'achingly pretty' by just about everyone. But it's now closed yet again, with the last managers leaving after a scant 16 months. JW Lees couldn't care less, and it affects everyone locally, and the owners of holiday lets who can't rely on or recommend the only pub in the entire catchment area.
