I am writing this review as our JAL flight from Tokyo back to the US just departed Narita.

We were members of the Oct 5--Oct 19, 2026 Majestic Japan small group tour (10 very experienced world travelers not afraid to speak their minds if necessary - 6 Americans and 4 Brits). Without reservation this trip was exceptional and is highly recommended. We all agreed that tour leader, Kinga Ciupak, was an absolutely outstanding guide - one of the best some of have ever had! She took her time to explain everything and either answer or research each and every question so that we understood the relevance of what we were seeing, doing, and eating. She made the culture of the country come alive for us, and you could tell how passionate she is about her adopted homeland of Japan.

​The itinerary (Tokyo-Kanazawa-Kyoto-Kinosakionsen-Hiroshima-Hakone-Tokyo) offered wonderful experiences for my husband and myself and was perfectly organized down to the details provided in advance in our comprehensive information packet.

My favorite things were seeing Mount Fuji from the Hakone Ropeway, riding on the Shinkansen bullet train reaching speeds of 188 mph, and sampling all of the delicious foods from the different regions of the country. I also loved experiencing all that is Tokyo—the crowded streets, the bright billboards, and the incredibly packed Tokyo Station.

My husband's favorites were taking photographs of the temples and shrines, soaking in the gardens and the bucolic atmosphere, trying new and different foods, and shopping!

​Kinga knew we were interested in Sumo which wasn't part of this itinerary and found us a thrilling and fun Sumo experience to enjoy during our free day in Kyoto. We appreciated that she went above and beyond to help personalize our trip of a lifetime! She is most certainly an asset to Inside Japan.

Because of the comprehensiveness of this tour, and the incredible knowledge, expertise, and professionalism of Kinga, we will definitely look to Inside Japan and Inside Asia as we begin to plan our next great adventure!

Having someone to talk our itinerary through, provide suggestions, and then do the logistics of reserving hotels and buying train tickets made this trip so much easier! Our agent/planner was friendly and worked hard to take our interests and budget into consideration when helping us to plan our trip. Tackling this on our own would have been much more stressful and nowhere near as successful. The choices for our lodgings were diverse but also each wonderful in their own way. I feel like we got to know Japan differently at each stay as we worked our way by train from Tokyo to Kokura City.

Our recent trip to Japan was wonderful thanks to our amazing guide Hanan Alaghawani. Her readiness to answer questions and help all members of our group was amazing. We experienced the culture, local food, history and much more. Hanan helped us safely travel by trains, taxis, ferry and bus. Our trip, was well organised with nothing for us to worry about. We would recommend this tour to anyone planning to visit Japan. Thanks Inside Japan and a bigger thanks to Hanan!

Good communication through the booking process. Well organised tour with interesting itinerary. The guide was knowledgeable, helpful and all round nice guy.

Inside Japan provided continued support from the moment we made our booking. Our agent was available to answer questions relating to and outside of our tour. Information was detailed with maps, itinerary, language and customs cues. For the price it was a comprehensive tour with an outstanding guide to insure that we experienced culture and language and historical opportunities beyond our expectations!

My travel consultant was Will G. And he listened to my requests from what I wanted from this first time trip to Japan. Admittingly not knowing much about the different areas of Japan and letting him know that this is our honeymoon as well we wanted to explore alot of areas in the two weeks we were gonna be there. He tentatively listened to our request and planned an amazing adventure for us that included touring through the cities of Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka. The main attractions we wanted to see included the deers of Nara, tattoo friendly onsens and the studio gibli park.
What was surprising and unexpected was that they provided us with 2 preloaded IC cards (for travelling) and a pupuru kit (travel router) which gave us free wifi everywhere we went in japan so we were always connected to the internet which is a god send!

We loved our first visit and would defo go again with the help of Inside Japan in the future!

I am a repeat customer who did a small group tour in April 2026, giving Inside Japan a second chance after many blunders in a Nov 2025 self guided tour trip:

To give a background, the 2025 blunders included the following: no information regarding public holidays in Japan while I was touring which altered transport times and availability, wrong information given regarding distances and time to get to places, not enough time allocated between arriving in cities and getting to small tours and consequently a tour was missed, request for early morning starts and train tickets to cities early were ignored and consequently time was wasted in the morning and not enough time was spent later in the day at new destinations, no research was done on the opening hours and days of an onsen I really wanted to visit, no information given regarding the unusual and specific hotel terms of not being allowed to have a heater on throughout the night even though it was minus 1 degrees outside, when I informed Inside Japan about this they did not admit an error but instead said I should not perhaps travel at this time of the year, a hotel did not have my booking and I couldn't forward my luggage and it took Inside Japan in Japan 1.5 hours to contact me and sort the problem.

I had already paid for my 2026 small group tour of 12 trip before doing the 2025 trip so I went ahead with the 2026 trip hoping for a marked improvement. I met the following: at the beginning of the tour, I let the guide know that I had a nasty fall a week before coming on this tour and I had lost my confidence. I told him I felt nervous walking down steep wet slopes and stairs. He said nothing (nothing). I understand that a guide is limited in how they can offer assistance due to insurance reasons. However, I don't understand silence and indifference. One morning on the tour, the guide asked the group if anyone wanted to join him for an unscheduled dinner.I replied yes. However, by 4 pm I felt very exhausted. I told the guide this and apologised for not being able to attend and I needed to rest. The guide showed no concern for my health and instead reprimanded me in front of the group for not giving enough notice. I explained that sometimes, and this was one of them, notice isn't possible because exhaustion or illness can creep up on you. He said nothing. Half way through the tour, I woke one morning feeling very light headed and unwell. I told the guide this. He muttered in a negative tone and asked if I wanted anything from him. I said no and I just explained I had to sit out on many of the group activities throughout the day and rest. What astounded me was that while sitting out throughout the day, not once did the guide check on me: not once. As the tour continued, I sat out on several things and again the guide never asked about my health. One day after catching a ferry, I was incredibly nauseous. The guide was escorting a couple back to the hotel via taxi because the man of this couple had a sore back. Everyone else caught the tram. Knowing there would be room for one more in the taxi, I asked the guide if I could join them as I was very unwell. Again, he showed no concern for my health and instead muttered negatively,"If there's room." On the last night of the tour, I told the guide my health was still poor and I had a splitting headache. He said nothing again and offered no assistance. I didn't attend the farewell dinner because of being ill and I never heard from the guide. Not once did he follow up. I felt ignored, invisible, and an inconvenience. At times I didn't feel physically safe. When I outlined all these blunders in writing to head office, there was no admission of any error and instead the focus was shifted to me. All administrative and safety blunders were explained away as my perception and my high expectations.
Fellow travellers, these trips cost between 15 to 20 thousand. Expect the upmost research and care. This is your hard earned money and for some it is a once in a lifetime trip. I write and post this only to inform travellers. Choose well.

Great itinerary, and everything went so smoothly. Our tour guide, Savannah Sutton, was superb—we cannot rate her highly enough. She made everything flow seamlessly, nothing was too much trouble, and she went out of her way to provide little treats when we entered new areas. She was always willing to help and consistently went above and beyond. She is a real credit to InsideJapan Tours.

We had the most amazing honeymoon over 3 weeks.

The itinerary that Inside Japan provided was something that we couldn't have put together on our own. We really feel like we made the most of our trip. The information and detail given meant that what could've been a complicated trip was straightforward and stress free.

I haven’t traveled for a few years so I was a little nervous but they made the trip easy and fun, quite an achievement as I worry about everything 😂 we had one or two hiccups but the team in Japan were fantastic and went above and beyond. I can’t recommend them enough, there are a lot of companies that could take a leaf out of their book as far as customer service goes 😁

We decided for our first trip to Japan to go where there were less crowds. Inside Japan had a tour called Hidden Japan that was perfect for our first time to this beautiful and historic country. We had Savannah as our guide, she has the perfect balance of fluent language, patience and cultural knowledge with the bonus of being from our home state, Texas! Our group of 14 came from four different countries and we got along well. The hotels IJ selected for this tour were convenient and comfortable, most had laundry options, all had expansive breakfasts (I miss Japanese breakfast buffets). The tour had a variety of sites to visit (arts and culturally), different scenery (architectural and natural beauty), and access to see parts of temples/shrines you would not normally be able to see on your own. For us, this tour gave us the opportunity to see a side of Japan that we would not have been able to do on our own in the time allowed. We also experienced all sorts of transportation, Savannah was so organized in keeping us together. We took trains, cabs, cable cars, bullet train, ferries, jetfoil. The tour gave us great experiences with a variety of meals like, kaiseki, shojin ryori and izakaya, The best hotel experience was staying in a ryokan with a private onsen, this was luxurious to us. Overall, we had a lovely, memorable, and culturally unforgettable experience. We would use IJ again to enjoy another region of Japan. They do the heavy lifting and all you do is let them know what you want to experience and your interests.
