When you contacted us regarding your delivery, we immediately investigated the issue with DHL and were informed that your parcel had unfortunately been lost in transit. At that point, we contacted you promptly and offered to send a replacement via express delivery. You confirmed that this was acceptable and advised that you were happy with this resolution.
While we appreciate that delays are frustrating, particularly when items are needed urgently, we acted as soon as we were made aware of the issue and took steps to resolve it as quickly as possible.

Good value, prompt response to queries, slow to dispatch items.
I ordered some hemp on this website as it was good value. The hemp took 15 days to arrive, by which time I had run out. Whilst I was waiting I contacted them and they were quick to get back to me and let me know when they would dispatch the item. If you are going to order from this company you need to allow at least double the advertised delivery times.

Orders just don’t turn up
If I could give this company 0 stars I would. Their subscription service is appalling, orders either don’t turn up or are weeks late. Communication is terrible, I requested to be able to phone them regarding a subscription but this wasn’t possible. In summary a diabolical service.

For clarity, we’d like to address a few points raised in your review. Across a total of 13 orders placed with us, one order was partially sent incorrectly. As soon as this was brought to our attention, the issue was resolved promptly with a full refund. The remaining 12 orders were fulfilled and delivered successfully, with no concerns or complaints raised at the time.
We would also like to clarify the point regarding communication. You did have a phone conversation with a member of our team to discuss your subscription, so we’re unsure why it is stated that contacting us by phone was not possible.
Additionally, two bags of Pure Balancer were sent in error. We did not ask for these to be returned, as we understood you needed the food and felt this was the most reasonable outcome in the circumstances.
While we recognise that even a single issue can be frustrating—particularly with subscription services—we feel it’s important that feedback reflects the overall experience accurately. We work hard to provide a reliable service and to resolve any issues fairly and promptly when they arise.

100% satisfaction
I was looking for a new chicken feed supplier, checking for price, quality, postage costs and delivery time. Horse & Hen came out on top, so I used them and am so glad I did. I placed my order at 13.30 on a Tuesday and it arrived less than 24 hours later. The corn, layers pellets, grit and mealworms were exactly as described and just like the photos on the website. Postage was free and packaging was adequate with no waste, which is important to me. I was kept well informed by email, from ordering through to delivery. 100% satisfied.

Do not order from this company they totally mess you around . You order a product which you need for your animal, you pay the extra delivery charge to get it quickly, then when you finally get a response to email they tell you the product is not in stock over three weeks after ordering !

Very poor delivery service. Good product.
The product is just as advertised. The hens enjoy it. Posting and deliver were very poor. Mostly due to the courier who sent repeated and conflicting and incorrect messages. Even allowing for the normal holiday delays delivery was very poor. The order was accepted but then no one was available to address the endless and confusing delays. I have had many similar problems with this national courier. I would suggest that a reliable and organised courier be used in future.

We were disappointed to receive this feedback, as your order was placed on Friday 26th December (Boxing Day) and dispatched on Tuesday 30th December, which is within our standard two working day dispatch timeframe. It was sent via DHL during the Christmas period, when courier networks were experiencing particularly high volumes, and was delivered on 5th January.
While we appreciate that the courier’s communication caused frustration, this was unfortunately outside of our direct control once the order had been dispatched. We would have welcomed the opportunity to assist further, and we are sorry that this experience has resulted in a review being left on our profile rather than being directed to the courier responsible for the delivery.
We do, however, value all feedback and will continue to review our delivery partners to ensure the best possible service for our customers. Thank you again for your order.

Disappointing service.
Took over 3 weeks to arrive. Even taking into account the Christmas holidays, this was highly annoying and I had to purchase again from elsewhere as I was going away in the new year and needed to have food ready for my hens before I went. I was given no notification that there might be a delay and that I would have to wait for weeks before delivery. I will definitely be looking elsewhere in the future.

Stupidly long wait
Placed an order and paid for over a month ago, specifically as a Christmas present but ordered well in time, still had not received a week before Christmas so I chased the company up and they said it was being dispatched the following Monday for delivery on the Tuesday, it wasn’t, still hadn’t even left them yet, I left it another ten days before chasing them up again, as tracking on shop app still showed as not dispatched, so I contacted them again to ask for a refund as was meant to be a Christmas present anyway, and they said it had already left them and was with DHL, an hour after this conversation I only just get the email from DHL saying ‘we are expecting your parcel’ so clearly that wasn’t true, and they lied to avoid giving me a refund, it’s now been another week and still nothing I know it’s no longer their fault after DHL have received it, but has been awful service

Avoid for pallet deliveries
Sadly, I would not recommend this company if you are looking to order bedding by the pallet and out of the area.
After waiting almost over a week for shavings and having to contact Horse & Hen for updates (as there is no delivery or tracking details provided) the pallet ended up not being delivered on its due date as the carrier had issues. For this, I was issued a refund for 4 bales as a goodwill gesture, given I had to buy bedding over the weekend to tide my horse over.
When it was confirmed for further attempted delivery, the pallet was then marked as missing in transit. This was 27th October. I was promised a refund in full (minus the 4 bales) It’s now the 23rd NOVEMBER and I’m still yet to receive my refund of over £300.
I contacted Horse and Hen on the 30th Oct and 3rd November as still hadn’t seen a refund notification, but was assured it can take 7-10 days for it to go through. It’s now been 20 days and I still haven’t got a refund through.
Being a small, family run business,
is no excuse for this kind of service. I went elsewhere to Arley Moss, who are also a small, family run business! Pallet arrived within 3 days and with tracking details. Not to mention they contacted me to ensure delivery was successful!
Very disappointed to say the least…have contacted Horse and Hen today for an update as following a dispute with my bank, a refund of £30.40 only is due in my account. No idea what on earth is going on!
