I recently collected a Kia EV6 from Hippo Garage in Peterborough, and unfortunately my experience was extremely disappointing.

Prior to collection, I was assured that the vehicle had been inspected, was ready for handover, and would be fully cleaned and valeted. However, when I arrived to collect the car, it was immediately apparent that this was not the case.

The vehicle had not been properly cleaned, the interior was in poor condition, the driver’s seat was stained, carpets were missing, and the overall presentation fell far below what I would expect when purchasing a vehicle costing approximately £25,000.

What concerned me most was the condition of the vehicle itself. I arrived in an identical Kia EV6 with similar mileage, which gave me a direct comparison. The condition of the vehicle I purchased was significantly worse. Under the bonnet, there was a substantial build-up of dirt and grime that simply did not reflect the advertised mileage. It looked more like a vehicle that had covered well over 100,000 miles rather than around 20,000 miles.

Naturally, I raised these concerns with the staff on site. Rather than receiving reassurance or support, my concerns were largely dismissed. When I questioned the cleanliness of the vehicle, I was told, “We’re not detailers.” Frankly, I found this response unacceptable from a dealership selling vehicles at this price point.

I also requested the vehicle’s service records, service history documentation and logbook information. Rather than assisting me, I was told to check the dashboard and, if the documents were not there, to contact the salesperson from another branch myself. Again, this is not the level of customer service I would expect when collecting a newly purchased vehicle.

Further inspection revealed that the tyres were extremely worn and close to the legal tread limit. While Hippo later acknowledged replacing the rear tyres before sale, they refused to replace the front tyres, stating they were still acceptable. A goodwill gesture of £75 towards a valet was offered, but this does not address the wider concerns regarding the condition of the vehicle.

The combination of heavily worn tyres, mismatched tyre brands, and the overall condition of the car has unfortunately left me questioning whether the mileage accurately reflects the vehicle’s true history. While I have no evidence of wrongdoing, the condition of the vehicle simply does not correspond with what I would expect from a car showing such low mileage, particularly when compared with my own identical vehicle.

My concerns have effectively been brushed aside, and I have been left feeling that once the sale was completed, customer satisfaction was no longer a priority.

Based on my experience:

• The vehicle was not presented in the condition promised.
• Important documentation was not readily available.
• Customer service during collection was poor.
• Genuine concerns regarding the vehicle’s condition were dismissed.
• The offered resolution did not adequately address the issues raised.

Would I purchase another vehicle from Hippo Garage? No.

Would I recommend others thoroughly inspect any vehicle before accepting delivery? Absolutely.

My advice to anyone considering purchasing from Hippo Garage is to inspect every aspect of the vehicle carefully, check all documentation before collection, and do not rely solely on assurances that the vehicle has been fully prepared and inspected.

Overall, a very disappointing experience.

Matt, was excellent in handling the part exchange and going through the paperwork for my new car. This is the second car I have bought from Hippo and I think I will be back for my 3rd. Excellent work all round.

I came across Hippo Motor Group when I was doing a google search on cars. I wasn’t sure I 100% wanted to change at the moment, but I gave it a go. I applied online and with a poor credit score I thought no chance… next minute all approved and I was searching cars. My account manager Connor was incredible. I did give him a bit of a challenge finding me something due to some negative equity on my current car, as well as a list of features the car needed to have, and I must say he smashed it out the park! He was friendly, patient, kept me updated throughout the process and made sure the car was right for me. The whole process was super easy, from signing documents to arranging delivery.
The delivery by Andy Barbour was absolutely seamless. He kept me updated via text message, and was here when he promised he would be. He helped me sign documents, let me look around the car and was generally chatty and friendly! He also made the whole process so easy. I love my new car, it’s in mint condition, all paperwork, locking wheel key etc given to me. I WILL definitely be back in around 3 years time for another vehicle! Thank you, Connor, Andy and Hippo!
