Harrysbistro Arvostelua 

This restaurant is ridiculously overpriced for low quality food!. I was in a party of four and we ordered different dishes that were all supposed to be served with a different jus, and they were all the same,basically made of gravy granules! When we said this to the waitress, the owner came over and was unbelievably confrontational, no apologies, as if we had no right to complain at all. Needless to say, none of us would ever return and will tell others of our bad experience!

I rarely leave negative reviews, but our experience at Harry's Bistro was sufficiently disappointing that I feel compelled to provide an honest account.

To begin with the positives, the restaurant enjoys an attractive location on the golf course, with pleasant views. The waiting staff were friendly and courteous throughout our visit. However, they appeared to have only a limited knowledge of the menu and were unable to answer even basic questions about the dishes being served.

Unfortunately, almost every other aspect of the experience fell well below the standard implied by the restaurant's pricing and reputation.

For a restaurant charging premium prices, the overall presentation is remarkably underwhelming. The dining room feels dated, the tables and chairs are tired, the cutlery and glassware are unremarkable, and the laminated menu does little to create the impression of a serious dining establishment. While décor alone does not determine quality, first impressions matter, particularly when customers are being asked to pay fine-dining prices.

The food was the greatest disappointment of all.

The starters were expensive for what was, at best, average cooking. However, it was the main courses that exposed the restaurant's limitations most clearly. Between our party we ordered duck, pork and faggots. Despite being entirely different dishes, each arrived submerged beneath the same dark sauce, described rather ambitiously on the menu as a "jus". It bore none of the characteristics of a properly prepared jus. Instead, it tasted very much like a basic stock combined with gravy granules to produce a thick, heavy sauce that was then applied indiscriminately to every plate. The result was predictable: the sauce overwhelmed everything it touched, eliminating any individuality the dishes may once have possessed.

What concerned me most was the lack of refinement. The cooking felt dated, unimaginative and lacking in technical precision. At these prices, customers are entitled to expect attention to detail, balance of flavour and a degree of culinary ambition. We encountered none of those things.

I travel extensively and dine regularly at highly regarded restaurants throughout the UK. The gap between the prices being charged and the quality being delivered is simply too great to ignore. The food is not of a standard that justifies either its reputation or its pricing.

The impression I was left with is of a restaurant that has become insulated from meaningful criticism. It appears to benefit from a loyal local following and a strong reputation within the immediate area, but neither of those things can substitute for objective quality. A restaurant should be judged by what arrives on the plate, not by the affection of its regular customers.

The most disappointing aspect of the evening came when I raised our concerns with the female owner. Rather than engage constructively with feedback, she responded with a level of defensiveness and hostility that I found quite remarkable. There was no genuine interest in understanding our experience or considering our criticisms. Instead, the conversation quickly became dismissive and confrontational.

Every restaurant receives criticism from time to time. What distinguishes good operators from poor ones is how they respond to it. In this instance, the attitude displayed only reinforced the concerns we already had about the food and the overall experience.

Ultimately, Harry's Bistro charges prices that place it firmly in competition with genuinely excellent restaurants. Unfortunately, the food, service standards and professionalism fall far short of that level.

There are numerous pubs and restaurants in Beaumaris offering better food, better value and a more welcoming experience. Based on our visit, I cannot recommend Harry's Bistro and would not return.
