Appalling waste of time

I cancelled my Gymbox membership in July 2025 under the 14-day cooling-off period having never attended the gym. This was very difficult to do. This was confirmed in writing by Gymbox support, including confirmation that my account was cancelled and that a full refund was being processed.

Despite this, I am now (6months later) receiving threatening payment emails claiming I owe them money and it will be passed to a debt collection agency. I also phoned Gymbox in December and was explicitly told my account was closed with no outstanding balance.

The fact that these demands are coming from a no-reply email address makes it even more frustrating, as it prevents proper resolution. I have had to reopen the original support ticket to dispute a “debt” that clearly does not exist.

This has been a stressful and entirely avoidable experience caused by poor internal systems and communication. I would strongly caution anyone considering joining to keep written records of everything and check cancellation confirmations very carefully.

UPDATE: Gymbox have still not responded. Despite written confirmation that my membership was cancelled and refunded in July 2025, and despite being told by phone in December that my account was closed with no balance, I am continuing to receive threatening payment emails from a no-reply address.
I have email repeatedly, called twice and visited the gym in person. Each time I was told the issue had been escalated to a manager. No response has been received, despite automated messages saying they will respond in 5 days.
This is extremely concerning behaviour for a large company and I have contacted citizens advice and trading standards.

UPDATE:
Over two and a half weeks on, after another visit to the club, two further phone calls, and a formal complaint email (which triggered only an automated response stating “A member of our team will reply within 5 working days”), I have still received no response whatsoever from Gymbox.

Instead, I have now received yet another threatening email, stating this is my “last chance” to pay a debt that does not exist.

Staff at the Finsbury Park Gymbox have told me in person that this is caused by an automated system and that no one locally seems able to stop it or provide a proper written response. That in itself is deeply concerning.

There has been no explanation at all as to how or why I am being pursued six months after Gymbox confirmed in writing that my membership was cancelled and that I was entitled to a full refund.

This has been an extraordinary waste of time and energy, entirely caused by Gymbox’s internal failures and lack of accountability.

UPDATE
It turned out Gymbox owed me a significant amount of money as they had failed to refund my joining fee etc and not cancelled my DD. After another few weeks of irritating emails I got my money back.

Membership services are appaling

I've been a part of this gym for a few months and have an ongoing direct debit. Since 1st Jan 2026, I have been locked out of the gym for over two weeks due to an unsettled debt. I've spoken to my bank, who confirmed that I have an active direct debit, funds in the account and that gymbox did not request the direct debt. Therefore, the reason I cannot access the gym is due to an error with gymbox, who did not take the scheduled payment. I was also charged an additional £8 fee. I've emailed membership services to resolve. Who has taken over 5 days beyond their SLA to respond. The ticket was marked resolved without explanation. I have no idea if the issue has been fixed or if this issue will happen again next month. I understand that this has probably been a technical error in their system. However, the resolution to the problem from membership services has been shockingly bad. Resulting me being locked out of the gym for 2 weeks, which has cost me £67.5 for nothing. I do not recommend this gym, overall the quality of customer service for the price is insanely bad. There are much cheaper gyms in London for a third of the price, with much nicer staff. I will be cancelling my membership if the membership services team ever responds to an email.

Terrible customer service, decent gym

Gym is good if a bit busy. But their customer service is a joke, not getting back to you for 5 business days and then sending an automated email which does not answer your question and closing your ticket.

I would expect better for how much it costs.

High price, dubious quality.

I tried out Gymbox Westfield for a month (make sure you cancel on the same day as signing up if you want to do this as they don’t make it easy). I was looking for something to bridge the gap between my previous Crossfit training and using the local PureGym. This is what I found….

Pro’s:
- A much more varied and ambitious range of classes than most gyms
- A decent rig for calisthenics training
- Generally friendly gym goers and a pleasant enough training atmosphere

Con’s:
- Classes often cancelled or merged with outside trainers of very variable quality and reliability, one yoga class approaching dangerous!
- A very poor range of functional fitness equipment and hand held weights, especially those sizes typically used by women.
- I’m all for a bit of 90’s nostalgia, but the blanket “Lad Culture” branding that Gym Box seem to love would be best left in the past.

My verdict – Was Gym Box worth nearly 4 times my PureGym membership – sadly not. If you want good quality coaching and structured classes pay the small amount extra to join a specialist Gym, if you want to slog it out on machines and free weights join your local budget gym. This halfway house did neither one nor the other well and was sadly disappointing.

Not safe for women

Westfield White City Based on my experience, I did not feel safe at this gym as a woman!

I am sharing my personal experience because it had a serious impact on me and may be relevant to others.

On 18 December 2025, while training at this gym, I was verbally and physically abused by another male member. I was extremely distressed and frightened. During the incident, I was subjected to sexually degrading and gender-based verbal abuse. My friend stepped in to protect me and was punched in the face.

What affected me most was that, during the incident, no staff members, including personal trainers or management intervened. After the incident, I was not sat down by anyone from senior management to check on my welfare or to take a formal statement. At the time, we believed the male involved would be banned and that the matter would end there. The lack of follow-up left me feeling vulnerable and unsupported.

Following this, both my friend and I were banned from the gym. I was not asked to provide a formal statement, and I was not given an explanation of how the decision was reached. This made me feel unheard and dismissed. I have not had any response from head office.

As a woman, this experience left me feeling that my personal safety and wellbeing were not prioritised. Seeing the situation unfold without meaningful support is something I found deeply upsetting and will not forget.

From my own experience at this gym, I am aware that other physical altercations involving male members have been handled differently. This contributed to my feeling that the response in my case was inconsistent.

Additionally, based on my experience as a regular member, the sauna has been out of use for a long period of time, and there are frequently multiple machines out of order. While separate from the incident, this added to my overall disappointment with the gym.

I am sharing this as my honest experience. If you are a woman considering training here, I would encourage you to carefully consider whether this environment would make you feel safe and supported.

Still no response from customer service…

Still no response from customer service after asking for to cancel, even offering to pay the early termination fee.

Strongly recommend not to join this gym, 100 pound a month , give or take and there is no membership customer service of any note

Beautiful Gym, Impossible to Train

I joined Gymbox Farringdon 5 months ago. At first, I was really impressed by the design and the lighting. The machines and weights looked very high-quality. But after some time, I realised that the cool and dark design actually makes the place feel uncomfortable. It looks great for photos and videos, but it’s not a good environment for working out.

The gym opens at 6 AM. If you go exactly at opening time, you can train peacefully for about one hour. But after 7 AM, working out becomes almost impossible. This is the most crowded gym I have ever seen. I tried going a few times at those hours, but there was even a queue just to enter the gym. It’s almost impossible to find an empty locker in the changing room. And they are still doing promotions and discounts to get even more new members. Sorry, but where are you going to fit all these people? This gym is basically a marketing trick.

I really don’t recommend it. I signed a one-year contract to get a cheaper price, but now I really regret it. I haven't worked out for 2 months because the gym is unbelievably crowded. Even if you go at lunchtime, it’s still packed because a lot of office workers come during their break. I wish I paid double the price and joined a calmer gym where I could actually train comfortably. I totally do NOT recommend this place.

Not worth trusting this chain. Beware

I signed up for an year plan and due to family emergency I have to move out of UK. I requested them for a refund as I didn't use it not even for a single day and they are so inconsiderate and unhelpful that they refused even asking for money to cancel. Never see a company being so insensitive and absurd going to such lengths.

POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE

POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE, BREAKING INTO PAID LOCKERS AND CLASSES + PT'S TAKING UP ALL THE SPACE IN THE GYM

I paid for a locker for over 3 months and let's say it wasn't cheap.

After a few weeks out with an Injury. I got back to the gym where I found Gymbox had cut open my lock and taken my stuff out.

They then took an hour to find my stuff and had no clue why it had been broken into. They then gave back everything apart from some sentimental goods. Which they still haven't found. I have waited over a week for them to find it and 2 gym visits. They keep saying they have escalated it to other teams. No one has reached out. And my belongings are still missing. The person on the email has absolutely no emotions to the situation whatsoever.

Really poor gym and poor service.

I signed up to the gym for a year paying monthly. They have the nerve to tell me I can't cancel my membership after they have lost my property and gone into my locker without my consent. Apparently the locker wasn't registered correctly. I don't see how that is my problem.

The staff are rude and obnoxious. When asking even to rent a locker the receptionist was sarcastic and would make remarks.

Half the gym is closed off for classes.

The other half are the IT'S taking up all the space and using multiple machines.

The gym is a shambles. Don't bother.

I have been to Covent Garden which has now shut down and Farringdon. And by far Bank is the worst.

I won't be going back to any Gymbox again after this. This is how they treat customers who have been with them for 8 years on and off.

I had a rather lacking experience

I had a rather lacking experience, highlighted by unclear communication and issues with cancellations. Although they assured me my subscription was canceled, they still charged me for an additional month. I understand there might have been some mix-up with the cancellation timeline, but issuing a cancellation confirmation only to follow it with a charge seems counterintuitive. When I raised this concern with their manager, they acknowledged the communication was indeed confusing but did not consider it their responsibility.

Reward the long standing members…

Reward the long standing members return; not penalise them due to failings in their own system ui/ux for cancellation. And completely ignore their own rules when being made redundant or moving away from available gym locations.

Gymbox used to be a sanctuary of mental health and fitness, now its a run down shadow of itself, with sexual predators in the changing rooms and continuously broken equipment sat out

Worst customer experience possible

Had the worst experience with this gym, they are the most disorganised and disrespectful I have ever worked with.

We booked 3 classes for our office staff as a wellness day, and paid already for the classes.

On the day, we arrive to the reception, with only one person there they did not have anyone to show us around, it is a three floor gym so we couldn’t find our way easily.

Then we go to the class, and no instructor shows up, we wait for 15 mins and no one shows up, so I go up to the reception and the person was on the phone, I try to get his attention, but rudely enough he ignores me as if I am not there, he waits 15 mins to look at me and says he doesn’t know the instructor and the person who arranged the classes doesn’t work there anymore …

Overall, HORRIBLE and would never ever step foot in this gym even if they pay me to go …

Respecting customers is key to success … and they don’t have any respect to you whatsoever

THE MUSIC IS FAR TOO LOUD AND SEEMS TO BE CONTROLLED BY THE PTS I HAVE HEARING PROBLEMS AND EVEN WHEN I WEAR EAR PLUGS I CANNOT ENJOY THE GYM I COMPLAINED TO THE STAFF WHO TOLD ME TO EMAIL THE GYM MANAGER WHO SAID THE MUSIC HAS TO BE LOUD AND ADVISED ME TO COME AT QUIET TIMES BUT I ALREADY DO THIS THEY HAD NO CONSIDERATION FOR ME AND MY HEARING ISSUES SOMETIMES THE MUSIC IS OK BUT THEN THE PT COMES ALONG AND RATCHETS IT UP SO ITS UNBEARABLE. I WANT TO LEAVE BUT IM STUCK IN A CONTRACT TILL NEXT SEPT '26.

Finsbury Park - A haven for disrespectful unprofessional staff

Where do I start? Towels look like something you wouldn’t even donate to charity- some look like they have been through a mincer and the size of these towels are ridiculously SMALL - not to mention the foul odour , I guess can only come from the fact that the machine is overpacked with towels and not enough space for towels to dry PROPERLY!
Now onto the staff! I would say we have some characters on reception:pretentious, overbearing and RUDE. There’s a particular lady who works there that speaks over her colleagues even if I haven’t addressed her ! It’s annoying at this point! No one responds to emails and when you chase up by calling on the phone (you’re lucky if they pick up btw) they have a nasty attitude and don’t listen. Now let’s get to the classes- only joking! You can’t get to them because they are always full up ! I would give this gym a miss as it is all smoke and mirrors (oh and neon lights) . I am paying for the pretense of the gym. The DJ playlist is subpar and I never ever see the DJ around and the timings are undisclosed. Oh what about the protein machines? What about them they are always out of order , same for the vending machines. Give this gym a few more months and it will be in disrepair - the staff are incredibly lazy to maintain customer service . I will say the instructors for classes are really lovely but the front of house staff are TERRIBLE. They stand around speaking about other customers - don’t they have a staff room for this? Gym floor needs to be much bigger than what I am paying for . I have had better workouts and could access a class with cheaper , no contract gyms such as PureGym and The Gym and they both were 24 hours 🤷 To put it perfectly , it’s like having that one friend who you know is infamous for not attending meet ups , letting you down- only thing is you knew they were never coming! Overhyped and oversubscribed!

Disgusted.

Went here with a friend and liked it, then I signed up for a membership. I went one time on my own for the first time, and was shocked to see how "cruisy" the gym was. I was followed and flashed.

I sent a cancellation email as per the conditions and TOS due to "distance selling" regulations for online contracts you have the right to cancel the membership if you are unhappy with the service within 14 days. As per Gymboxes TOS they will adhere to this if you have only attended once.

Gymbox sent me an email essentially saying as I had previously come with a friend as a guest pass that they don't think I can get a cancellation. I then called up the head office and spoke to a lady, who again, tried telling me that i probably won't be able to cancel my membership, this was AFTER I explained how I was essentially sexually assaulted on my first visit. She disregarded this, and I was so shocked by her reaction that she was more concerned about forcing me to keep my membership that she didn't even acknowledge the seriousness of the incident I experienced.

I promptly stopped her out of anger, and essentially said, excuse me, why are you disregarding the fact that I experienced a form of sexual assault on my very first visit, this is predominently the reason for me cancelling. She suddenly went sheepish due to the anger in my voice and then said she will do her best to cancel the membership.

They eventually did cancel my membership and sent a generic corporate statement but overall it was an absolutely disgusting way to treat a customer that experienced something like this. This was head office also fyi.

I have since received about 1000 emails on an almost daily basis trying to get me to rejoin by their spammy system. I'd only consider it if I were giving an ACTUALLY free trial these " free for x months" is a scam because yes you get a month free and don't pay anything, but THEN you are locked into a 12 month or 6 month or 3 month contract. It doesn't deduct the free months for the term of your contract.

Unfortunately these kind of tactics work on most people which is why they are used, but it's important to read into the reviews of a company first and see why they are so poorly rated and how poor customer service can really negatively affect a company. It's no surprise Gymbox are coming across desparate recently to get new people in the gym due to their reputation going down the gutter.

People openly having sex in the showers, doing things in the steam room which is on the way to the toilets etc. Criminal.

Avoid at ALL costs.

Poor customer service

Poor customer service. For the amount you paid monthly I would expect a better response time.
In the automated email they said 5 working days, I have waited longer than this for a response.
They easily want to take your money to sign up to membership, but aftwr that there isn't any care.

I wouldn't recommend using them. I thought it would be great as it is local to where I work, but the lack of customer service support has let thr gym down incredibly.

I get better value from The Gym group and their gyms are incredibly new, good equipment and you pay a fraction of the price.

The Gymbox at Elephant & Castle is…

The Gymbox at Elephant & Castle is excellent. The facilities, the classes, the personnel (thank you Tin, Amber, Rianne, Jack and Darron and everyone that I’m forgetting their names as well as the kindest cleaners!), the teachers (thank you Maria, Min, Marga, Michaela, Alison, Jason, Abdul, Paul, Teresa, Beko, Flavio and Florin!) as well as the lovely person on helpdesk named Joel. The only reason why I’m putting a 4/5 is because it’s the gym management’s policy to not advertise annual deals to existing members but only to new customers, so long-term loyalty isn’t rewarded equally as a new membership. Also the 4/5 reflects my gut feeling (out of my long experience in hospitality) that management might have the gym and online support slightly understaffed. So, my suggestion for a 5/5 to the decision-makers: You have the best employees and the best teachers, guys — give them ALL the support and extra hands that they need!

I have signed up to GYMBOX in April…

I have signed up to GYMBOX in April this year. So far an enjoyable experience if you go as soon as it opens at 6am. Morning are very quiet and you can use most of the machines without any wait or finding a replacement for you workout.

I initially signed up to Farringdon as I was waiting for Finsbury Park to open. Farringdon is big and lots of machines to use.

GYMBOX marketing is really good because why have they marketed Finsbury Park to be amazing, top notch facilities with cold plunge, protein shake machine (which initially people were told only founder members would have access to this, its a lie, everyone has), free coffee but most of the time like 99% none of this works and its out of order. The 3D plan made it seem such a massive gym with lots of space but in reality it isn't.

Overall, GYMBOX is a nice gym, bit of loud music if you are not used to it and nice people. Facilities could improve.

Gymbox cancellation policy is very…

Gymbox cancellation policy is very unfair, I have to relocate overseas for work unexpectedly and the only way I could cancel my membership was to pay a £237 penalty fee. This is very harsh for an extreme change in circumstances. The customer services were totally inflexible despite complaints and it took a long time to even get a response after the initial cancellation request. I can see now that lots of people on here have had a similar experience.

In my time at gymbox i was using Finsbury Park and Victoria. Finsbury park equipment, recovery facilities and pilates studio are great but the space is an issue when there are classes on in the functional area. The class booking platform is also a nightmare even if you set an alarm for when they are released it crashes so it’s really hard to book on.

Victoria class booking is easier and space not as much of an issue. It is however very smelly.
