I recently experienced a challenging breakdown situation in central London, which left me stranded for a total of 28 hours. After being towed to a garage, I found myself in need of assistance once again. I reached out to First Call Motor Breakdown and spoke with a gentleman named Craig.
From the start, Craig was incredibly understanding and empathetic to my situation. I explained the ordeal I had been through over the past 40 hours, and he listened attentively. What impressed me the most was how he took initiative; he updated my address in the system and arranged for recovery without any hesitation.
Craig's dedication to providing excellent service was evident. He arranged for someone to take me to a safe location and then another driver to bring me home. I felt genuinely cared for, as he prioritized my well-being over technicalities like mileage and rules.
People like Craig are true assets to the company, and his exceptional customer service deserves recognition. Thank you, Craig, and thank you, First Call Recovery, for hiring individuals like him. I hope you continue to recruit more people with his level of commitment and compassion!.

First Call responded promptly.
First Call responded promptly to my request for a breakdown assistance. They checked that I had informed the garage that my car was going to, so that there were no problems with getting immediate service.
At every stage, the recovery driver called me to let me know when he would arrive and checked my exact location so that I was feeling secure.
I am most impressed with First Call and their professionalism. Thank you for making an unexpected Monday morning nightmare feel less stressful.

Prompt and efficient
Recovery was initiated by the the dealership where I had recently purchased the vehicle. I spoke direct with the recovery company to organise the pick up and this was all conducted promptly and efficiently. The pick up driver confirmed my suspicion that the clutch had gone when he loaded the vehicle, “My foot went straight to the floor” he said as he started the vehicle. The car was loaded and off to the dealers workshop within 15 minutes. The entire collection from speaking to their office to seeing the loaded vehicle disappear took no longer than 2hrs. Not sure how you could improve on that service.

I am a vulnerable adult with health and mental heath issues and was left waiting over 3.5 hours for a recovery vehicle to arrive so was very disappointed with the service I received.

We have checked the details of your breakdown on Saturday evening and unfortunately they do not correspond to a wait of 3.5 hours. According to our records you initially called us at 20:35; this call lasted 12 minutes and ended at 20:47. A recovery driver was despatched and arrived with you at the scene of the breakdown at 22:02. Therefore in total it was a wait of 1 hour and 15 minutes from the end of your call to us to the time our recovery agent on scene with you, which is a relatively quick arrival for that time on a Saturday night. We do have a note to say that your friend that was waiting with you advised us that you had been in the layby for 90 minutes before you had contacted us, however as advised the first time you contacted us to request assistance was on the initial call at 20:35, and the arrival time for our service can only commence from the end of this initial call.

Although being a member for several years, this was the first time I had required them for a breakdown.
I called and reported the problem and received a text to say mechanic would arrive between 60 to 90 minutes.
I do not have a smart phone to track mechanic but my niece who was with me did and Michael arrived within the 60 minutes.
He was so pleasant and knowledgeable and found the problem very quickly.
I had already telephoned my local garage to say I would more than likely be dropping off Daisy (my Corsa).
Michael then said he would follow me around to my garage to make sure I arrived safely. This was great.

Had the breakdown come to my car
Had the breakdown come to my car, they couldn't fix it but he did something to the car so my windows, wipers indicators and sunroof didn't work after they left,,called first call about it and they refused to send any one else to fix the mess they left me in, it then rained and the car got drenched inside, gonna cost me £60 to put right

We have investigated this matter and confirm that our roadside technician diagnosed that your vehicle had a fault with the starter motor causing it to be unable to start and which required a garage repair. As such we offered to recover your vehicle to a local garage, however this offer was declined by yourself and you dismissed the technician from the breakdown scene. As the car battery had limited charge which could only be restored by driving the vehicle - and as the vehicle was unable to start due to the fault - this limited battery charge was used up by yourself in lowering the car windows after our technician had departed, and there was insufficient charge in the battery to close them again. As such the inability to close the windows was not the result of any action by our technician but as a result of the lack of charge in the battery, which is why a recovery to a garage to repair the fault was offered to you. As you had dismissed the technician from the breakdown scene, and as you are entitled to one callout per fault, we advised you when you contact us again that we could reattend to recover your vehicle as we originally intended but that this would not be covered under your policy with us and would therefore be on a paid basis - once again you declined this offer. As a result we disagree with the nature of your review that any damage to your vehicle was a result of the actions of either us or our contracted technician and instead was a result of the actions taken by you after you declined the recovery to which you were entitled.

Absolutely fantastic service from this team, went above and beyond - I had called several services who refused to help remove my vehicle due to awkwardness of the location - the attitude from these guys was the exact opposite - was told they can manage most things - they came out, took a look at the problem, solved it instantly and the car was gone. Brilliant service, very friendly and honest. Very impressed. Thanks gents!

First Call will use any excuse to put the onus of paying their contractors onto their customers – which essentially defeats the object of taking out a policy with them.
I hit a pothole whilst driving on a Friday afternoon. I spoke with call handler at First Call immediately, and they advised that they would send a mechanic after asking if my car had a spare wheel – I advised that I had one as I was very confident of this (although not 100% certain – I did look in my boot and it looked to me that there was a wheel/relevant equipment there). They said this would take 60 - 90 minutes and I asked them to treat my situation as urgent as I'm heavily pregnant.
After one hour, the mechanic arrived from their contractor. He assessed my car, looked for a spare wheel, and advised that I didn't have one. I was very taken aback and asked if he was certain. He said he was and then offered to check the damage to the tyre and wheel. He advised that damage had been sustained the tyre, wheel, and wheel alignment so we would need to arrange recovery as roadside repair was not possible. He advised his employers and soon after First Call called me and advised that my policy was invalid in this instance due to the fact that I didn’t have a spare wheel. I advised the roadside mechanic that I would be paying his employers directly for the call-outs and subsequent recovery (a total cost of over £150).
I then had a phone call from my midwife, and while I was on the call, missed a call from the contractor, requesting payment. When I returned their call, I was surprised when they advised that they would not arrange the recovery vehicle until I paid their fee. This seemed unfair as I had already advised that I would pay the full balance directly. I was given another number to call to make the payment, which I did immediately. The contractor refused to give an ETA for the recovery vehicle, despite knowing that I had already been by the roadside for an hour and a half, heavily pregnant.
45 minutes later, the mechanic arrived with the recovery vehicle and recovered my vehicle to a local mechanic that I had identified.
A few days later I received a call from the mechanics where my car had been taken for repair. They advised that the car does, in fact, have a spare wheel, located under the boot! There were also instructions on how to change the spare wheel under the mat inside the boot.
So, as a result of this error by the contractor, I had spent several hours by the road, heavily pregnant when, in fact, the issue could have been resolved much faster, and many of these issues could have been avoided entirely, if everything had been done correctly in the first instance. I had also paid over £150 for something which I was made to believe was my error, but was in fact, not even an issue.
Of course, these issues occurred because of mistakes made by the contractors. I contacted First Call and they refused to issue a refund for the fee because “I should have known where my spare wheel was” – this despite being heavily pregnant and unable to physically search for the wheel myself, and being told by a FULLY QUALIFIED mechanic that the spare wheel simply was not there!

Thank you for the review of the recent assistance you received from us. The level of cover that you hold with us only covers you for flat tyres and wheel changes if you have a spare wheel for your vehicle, which is required to be provided to the attending technician by the driver of the vehicle in order to complete the wheel change; this is typically done by confirming to the technician the location of the spare wheel in the vehicle. Whilst a technician can assist in locating a spare wheel if necessary by checking the obvious storage locations, it is not the responsibility of the technician to locate the spare wheel as it is simply not possible to know the storage location of a spare wheel for each and every make and model of vehicle. This is information that the driver of the vehicle should either know or should be able to confirm from the vehicle's Owner's Manual if required.
As it is the case that spare wheels are no longer included as standard equipment on many models of vehicles, it is a possibility that customers believe that their vehicle has a spare wheel when it in fact does not, and based on the information provided to us by our attending technician, this did appear to be the case in this situation. You proceeded to make a private arrangement for recovery with the attendant technician's recovery company and as such we cannot comment on the service that you received from them with regards to arranging the recovery and the time taken for the recovery truck to arrive.
If it was the case that your vehicle had damage to the wheel and its alignment in addition to the flat tyre then the presence of a spare wheel would only have been of use if it was required to be changed in order to recover the vehicle. In addition, the damage that you are describing would make this incident a Road Traffic Accident due to the pothole collision as opposed to an electrical or mechanical breakdown where a part of the vehicle has failed (in this case the tyre). As such even if our technician had managed to complete the wheel change a recovery would still have been required; as this would be an accident it is your Insurance company that would have authority on this matter rather than your Breakdown company.
You would therefore either have needed to contact your Insurance company for them to arrange the recovery of your vehicle and submit the cost of the initial wheel change to them as a claim for later reimbursement, or pay for the recovery of your vehicle (as you had done) and then submit the costs of the initial attendence and the recovery to your Insurance company for later reimbursement. Please note that we are only able to confirm that the assistance in this instance would not be covered with us as a Breakdown company and that you would need to verify with your Insurance provider if these costs would be available for reimbursement under the level of cover that you hold with them.
As such it is our finding that you were unable to provide our attending technician with the spare wheel, that the damage to your vehicle was beyond a flat tyre and as such the completion of the wheel change would not have made your vehicle driveable and therefore the presence of the spare wheel moot, and that this incident was an accident and not a breakdown which would have meant that it would not be covered under your Breakdown Cover but may be covered under your Car Insurance subject to your level of cover. Whilst we do appreciate that this was a stressful situation given your circumstances, we do not believe that there was anything further we would have been able to do in this instance unless we had arranged the recovery of the vehicle ourselves, however you chose not to proceed with this. It is therefore our recommendation that you contact your Insurance provider about this incident to enquire about whether reimbursement of costs for the recovery and subsequent repairs would be possible under your policy with them.

Wonderful job done fixing up my V50 after being hit, the guys did a marvelous job getting a wing mirror at a fraction of the price it would have cost from main dealer. Not only did they spray the door they also made sure the colour was spot on to the rest of the car.

Pretty quick arrival of a local recovery vehicle - great driver who was an absolute pleasure to work with.
Sensible feedback loop to check that I'd had the vehicle repaired and confrim I wasn't abusing the service.
