Very painful
I was hopeful this would be a good experience, even with the sensitivity that I'd been told may happen. I'm very disappointed as the pain is unbearable, to the point where I'm actually worried my teeth have been damaged. I had a few sleepless nights on week one, but moving to week two is another level. I only managed to keep the trays in for 4 hours in the first night, then the next day was awful. Took a break of two nights and have just had to take my trays out again after ten minutes due to the acute pain. I'm very disappointed having paid £600 for this. At this point, totally worthless and I can't really see any difference. I've written the treatment off as in unable to continue and would really like a refund as I find the product unusable.

The level of sensitivity you describe sounds extremely uncomfortable, and we completely understand why you would be concerned. We would like to reassure you that sensitivity during whitening does not mean that the product has caused damage to your teeth or that there is an issue with the quality of the system. We can confidently say that the gels won't have caused any damage. Professional teeth whitening done under referral of a dentist is 100% safe.
Sensitivity occurs when the whitening process reaches areas where dentine may be more exposed or naturally thinner, allowing sensations to travel more easily towards the nerve. Unfortunately, this can vary significantly from person to person, depending on enamel thickness.
Enlighten uses High-Quality whitening gels which are carefully refrigerated throughout their journey to maintain their effectiveness and stability. We also provide two desensitising products as part of the system to help minimise discomfort. However, in a small number of cases, patients can still experience significant sensitivity due to individual dental factors, as is the case with every effective whitening system.
We are sorry to hear that you have not seen the colour change you were hoping for so far. Whitening results can vary between individuals, as all cases have a different beginning shade and condition, and your dentist is best placed to assess your progress and advise on the most suitable approach. Where sensitivity occurs, your dentist may be able to adapt the treatment by using a lower concentration for a longer period, if they feel this is appropriate.
As your dentist provided and treatment planned your whitening, UK regulations mean we cannot advise you directly on treatment or make clinical decisions regarding your care. However, we would be very happy to liaise with your dentist and support them in reviewing your experience and finding the best way forward for you.

I’m normally good with reading reviews for things but as this was ordered by my dentist so I thought this was the best product to be used and didn’t bother to check up on it. Only since checking to see if this pain is normal have I come across the reviews. Very disappointing that it’s the product and not just my teeth being ‘sore’ because I’ve never used whitening treatment before. Extreme sensitivity to the point I can’t eat or drink told to take pain killers there is not much change in colour after using week one. Week 2 caused burning sensation and blistered my gums so I stopped got advice to which they sent extra, due to the sensitivity told to use week 1 for extra 2 weeks but no change in anything just worsened pain. Paid £500. Avoid using this product.

While some sensitivity can occur during whitening, the level of discomfort you describe sounds very unpleasant, and we appreciate why this has been such a frustrating experience.
We would like to reassure you that sensitivity does not mean there is an issue with the quality of the product. Tooth sensitivity during whitening occurs when the whitening process reaches areas where the dentine is more exposed or naturally thinner, allowing sensations to travel more easily towards the nerve. Unfortunately, this can vary significantly from person to person, and is a side-effected of all effective prescription Teeth Whitening products, thus, we have one of the least sensitivity-inducing systems comparatively.
Enlighten uses very high-quality whitening gels, which are carefully handled and Temperature Controlled throughout their journey to ensure they maintain their effectiveness. We also provide two desensitising products as part of the system to help minimise discomfort, although unfortunately a small number of patients can still experience heightened sensitivity despite these measures, due to other conditions already present in their dental health. With regard to the burning and blistering, these are indicative of an overfilled tray. Each tooth space on the tray should only have a small drop of gel, the size of a petit pois. All excess should be wiped away with a tissue once the trays are put in to ensure no gel leakage, as our trays seal to contain the gel inside it.
We are sorry to hear that you did not see the colour change you were hoping for during the first week. The initial week is known as the Condition week, during which we condition and prep the teeth to begin the active whitening period which has the higher concentration (16% Carbamide Peroxide). Results can vary depending on a number of individual factors, which is why your dentist is best placed to assess your progress and make any necessary adjustments to your treatment plan. In cases where sensitivity occurs, dentists can adapt the approach by using a lower concentration for a longer period, if they deem it appropriate, as was implemented in your case on the 28th Of May.
As your dentist provided and treatment planned your Enlighten whitening, UK regulations mean we cannot advise you directly on treatment. However, we would be very happy to liaise with your dentist and support them in reviewing your experience and finding the best way forward for you.
