Firstly - mine all worked out well and I got what was advertised, so this is no horror story. I got the £7500 grant and also the £7500 interest free loan for a large heat pump installation.

Overall my experience was good in that it all worked out, but it could have been a simpler process, and on more that one occasion I had to get it touch with them to sort either my understanding or a system glitch causing a problem, but it did get resolved.

They need to iron out the process more, but it’s worth persevering with.

Energy Saving Trust are refusing to refund the £11,300 that I paid to install a heat pump. I’d agreed in writing with them (pre install) alternative evidence that I could use to support my claim which they will now not accept. It’s incredibly stressful.

We received a grant to enable us to install an Air Source Heat Pump as part of an extensive renovation of our 200 year old house in Kintyre. The grant was an essential contribution toward the significant costs of upgrading insulation and our heating system. We wanted to get away from oil and mains gas is not an option for us here, so moving to an ASHP seemed the right route for us. The entire process, from initial assessment by the Home Energy Scotland Specialist Team, to final payment of the grant, was smooth and simple. My queries to the portal were answered promptly and I was actually amazed at how quickly the grant was paid into my account at the end of the process. I highly recommend anyone checking their eligibility and taking advantage of this excellent service. Top marks - and a HUGE vote of thanks - to all the team at the Energy Saving Trust.

With a grant of 78% you'd be stupid not to get your property upgraded. You end up with a warmer home and cheaper fuel bills. Also, if needed a interest free loan.

The worst company ever over 26 emails back forth I had to install heater myself pay £650 deposit plus £140 ECG certificate I’m now in debt currently on benefits affected my mental health they don’t want to pay !! Can never speak too anyone everything is by portal . Disgusting

We started our journey in December 2025 applying for our grant monies. The process was very smooth, the customer service from the team was excellent. Even though this was happening through the holiday season, the draw down monies were paid in to my account in the 2nd week of January and the remainder in the first week of February after our ASHP system was installed. The experience was first class, the help and support was excellent and the process was very smooth and I'm very happy....Many Thanks Energy Saving Trust

I sent a detailed request for assistance for a Boiler Upgrade Grant and received no reply to my Emails !

I will never recommend this grant and loan to anyone. it may sound appealing but its a joke from start to finish. If I felt getting approved was a challenge i had no odea what i would face when it came to making a claim. every excuse under the sun not to pay out. hurdle after hurdle. sometimes weeks between responses to your queries or questions. there is absalutely no need for this to be as difficult as this. It has wasted not hours but days of my life that I will never get back. typical government designed scheme pulled together by people with some degree but not one single ounce of common sense.

We applied for an interest-free loan to pay for our new double-glazed windows and were super happy with the help we got from EST. The application process was fairly straightforward. I opted to communicate via email with the team which made it easier for me. The application portal worked well for me and I was delighted with how quickly our application was processed and later on, how quickly we received the loan amount. Would definitely recommend!

Apart from a minor issue with the online form and me having to fill out an emailed form and then upload it, the process was very quick and went pretty smoothly.
After uploading the completed form with my bank details, the grant was received 4 days later.
From start to finish, including getting advice from Home Energy Scotland, quotes from suppliers, the installation work completing, the grant money being received and my proof of payment being accepted, it was just over 3 months.
Home Energy Trust Scotland were very quick to answer by phone and respond by email.

Excellent process and very smooth journey from the application to the delivery of the grant

In contrast to some of the other reviewers, I found the EST website and grant/loan forms pretty easy to navigate, and replies were quick and informative. Without the support of the EST, I'd still be polluting the environment with my dirty oil boiler.
Oh, and a tip for those who complain about spam/scam calls - not everybody who calls you on the phone is who they say they are. ;-)
