Such a shame to see the company that used to be great now being absolutely awful to (try to) do business with.

Customer service is appalling now. I had been a loyal customer for a good number of years and loved their service. Now it won’t let me order - saying my address cannot be delivered to, despite my postcode not being listed on addresses they don’t cover.

Phoned them up thinking it may be a small bug - but was told that they no longer deliver to me, and that there was nothing they could do but I could check back as they ‘may consider adding this area onto their run’. How lovely of them that my custom is such a non-event that they think it’s fine to dismiss me like this.

Used to be fab. Will never order again from them (even if miraculously they deign to see north of Scotland as worthy of their service again).

Terrible - avoid!!!!!

Been DR customer for years and always had good service from previous company however had delivery this week and appalled at condition of packaging and contents. Cardboard box arrived falling to bits meat within a white plastic wrapping all ice packs were melted and dripping water meat barely still frozen and some required to be cooked right away otherwise disposed of certainly not high standard of before. Messaged DR direct and no reply to date will not be ordering from this company again.

So, I decided to buy some pork products from Donald Russell and what a waste of time that was. Out of 13 items only 2 were available, all the rest were sold out.

May be Donald Russell should have remained closed if you can carry 2 out of 13 advertised stock items.

Having been told by email from them that Donald Russell the firm had been taken over by someone else down south, I went on to the website to look and see what they were selling and decided to place an order as some of the items were reasonably priced. Because of the hassle with their '"club" rewards discount, I didn't fill in the date I wanted delivery. On confirmation of the order, was told delivery would be 9th June when I wanted delivery 28th May. I immediately emailed them asking for the date to be changed. No reply from d Russell. I conated them again by email and also phoned them, held on for 40 minutes while I was told continually that the operatives were busy with other calls and they would get to me. I gave up, no word from them for 3 contacts so as I had paid by Pay Pal, set up a query through them. Pay a were excellent, they in turn raised the problem with 'D Russell who were given till 1st Jne to reply. I heard nothing from them and was going to contact pay pal yesterday when I got an email from them saying I was getting full refund for m order. Eventually later that afternoon I also received an email from D Russell telling me the items had been refunded. If this is the way the new firm of Donald Russell is going to operate, I cant see me ordering from them in the future. Very poor customer relations

SCAM company. They bought Farmison at the end of 2025 and refused to accept gift vouchers that had been purchased just prior to the sale. I lost £200 and I’m aware that many other customers were affected in the same way.
I believe a further ‘business acquisition’ has taken place since then.
Disgraceful company - AVOID!!!

Purchased Lamb Rack, Hardly any meat, disappointed. Also purchase Chateaubriand, quality was unbelievably poor. Sent pictures of the meat, no response customer services as poor as the meat. Cannot recommend.

So very happy Donald Russell is back! The quality of the meat is first class. Will be ordering lots of fillet steaks.

I have been a customer of Donald Russell Butchers since 2014 and have regularly ordered quality Steaks, Roasts, Sausages, Fish and Ready Meals throughout that time. Overall the quality has been consistently of a high standard, the best Scottish produce surpassing what is available in even the best supermarkets. My latest order was 10x Filet Mignons Steaks which were delivered on 11th April, which were beautiful. I was going to place another order recently but was saddened to see that online orders have been temporarily suspended, and they are looking for new owners. Hopefully this gem of a company will survive and continue to offer the best of quality foodstuffs and service for many years to come.

If I could give 0 stars I would. Partner received a £50 Farmison gift voucher in April 2025 and had a year to use it. After a lengthy kitchen reno (with no oven) when he went to use it in January he found Farmison’s website empty. After a few weeks (and no email comms to advise of the takeover) it changed over to Donald Russell but the site wouldn’t accept the voucher. He emailed and called their team but ultimately got no resolution before the voucher expiry date. £50 down and very disappointed - awful customer experience. Had the voucher been upheld we may very well have become regular customers.

Found out on day of delivery that they could only send part of my order. My order had been placed at least 2 weeks before

Have used Donald Russell since the covid epidemic. Have always been very pleased with the service and products until today. Have also recommended DR to various family members, who have also made purchases. I placed an order on line two weeks ago to be delivered today.
It was duly delivered. On opening the package I found that one of the items was missing. I rang DR, to be told the item was no longer available as the company was for sale and no further orders were being taken. I was offered a refund on the items which I accepted. I was disappointed that nobody called or emailed to advise on the situation with the order.
Very disappointed to hear the situation at DR. Presumably I will be deleted from your email listing.

Had a few orders from DR, but regrettably, this will be my last.
I decided after the rib roast at Xmas that wasn't up tomusual standard..would give another try, wish I hadn't bothered
Sirloin steaks purchased previously have been delicious that's why I succumbed and ordered more, but these ones were tough and chewy.
I also purchased other meats which I haven't used, including Ribeye and tenderloin. .Will just have to give them a try, and until then reserve judgement, but I certainly won't be spending another 170 pounds .
I wish now that when realised DR had gone into liquidation, i forgot about company completely.

Meat tasted ok but both of the two ‘hand carved’ rump steaks were very fatty and contained a lot of gristle, far away from the promised thin layer of fat which should, apparently, have melted away during cooking!
I won’t be returning.

I ordered and received their Easter lunch selection comprising rack of lamb, beef gravy, dauphinois potatoes, parsnips, green vegetables and tiramisu dessert.

Although the meat was absolutely up to the standard I’ve come to expect from them (I’ve had lots of good meat in the past), the rest of the items apart from the potatoes and the gravy were very disappointing. The green vegetables were watery and an unappetising khaki colour (they were cooked from frozen), the parsnips were cardboardy in texture and the tiramisu bore no resemblance to any tiramisu I have ever eaten: I can understand that they would omit any liqueur but there was no coffee or mascarpone flavour either. It was just sponge, cream and chocolate powder with the cream dominating. Edible but not tiramisu. Fortunately we had other deserts and vegetables to accompany the meal so it was not a complete disaster but I regret to say that the green vegetables, the parsnips and the desert were binned.

I emailed Russell’s to complain but received neither acknowledgment of receipt nor reply. Poor customer service and a dreadful experience so I won’t buy in future.

Was about to buy meat at DR in Selfridges when butcher blew his nose on kitchen towel then immediately used the piece to wipe his hands as he was about to cut the meat
Truly horrific so I ran out empty handed

Still awaiting updates on refunds for missing items but unsurprisingly customer service seem to be missing as well..

I received my first order from Donald Russel today. Extremely happy with price and delivery. i took advantage of their deals i got 4x 320g entrecoute sirloins, 1.2 kg of dry cured sliced bacon and 1.2kg of lean minced steak for 57 quid including delivery. My supermarket is 48 quid for the equivalent steaks so great value for (what i am assuming) is better quality. check out the deals they have, it's really good value when you compare to other good quality meat, Highly recommended,

We have used Donald Russell meat suppliers who are based in Scotland.
After our latest order has gone missing we have now found out they may be in Administration.
