Back to DMR Canary Wharf after a couple of months for a new watch — everything is perfect: from knowledgeable assistance and conversations to seamless collection experience.

I have been a customer of DMR for a few years now for all my jewellery and watch needs and I really cannot recommend them enough, The team at their Canary Wharf branch are always superb, friendly and professional.
Hugo has been wonderful again today just a joy to deal with which is rare these days.

DMR is a fine place to visit. It has a great relaxed atmosphere in an open plan store. All the staff have excellent person to person skills that go along with a smile. I have never experienced any pressure to purchase from the staff on any of my visits, the staff have always been there to help the customer. First Class service in every department. Shocking Rolex after sales service from David M Robinson in Liverpool after we spent a fortune servicing 2 watches.

I would steer well clear of DMR – absolutely shocking. Alex, Lina and Julie Speechly have thrown us under the bus. I do not write reviews like this lightly, but people need to know exactly what they are dealing with here.

Between two watches we spent just under £7,000 with DMR on servicing just before Christmas 2024 and early January 2025. One of the watches was my wife's white gold, diamond dial, Rolex Day Date, a watch that now retails at just under £40,000.

We spent close to £5,000 on that service alone only for the watch to come back with the date and day in a complete mess. It is impossible to change either properly.

When winding the crown to try and get the date right, it moves a few numbers, then a plain white plate comes around for ages, then when that eventually passes the date goes to “something” that still is not right and does not correlate with the day. It is impossible to select the right day and the right date. It is a mess.

And here’s the thing. The problem was there from the moment the watch came back to us. The penny only dropped properly a couple of weeks ago because she hardly ever wears it. She works for BA and does not take it to work with her on flights, and we hardly go out (kids) so she wears it maybe once a week if we go for something to eat at the weekend for example. She had asked me a few times to sort the date and day, but I just never got round to it until a couple of weeks ago.

And why would we have checked it earlier in forensic detail anyway? No need. We had paid nearly £5,000 for a factory Rolex service and assumed it had come back exactly as it should have done. Why on earth would a customer think they needed to inspect whether the day and date mechanism had been correctly returned on a £40,000 watch after spending that sort of money?

What sticks in my mind clearly is when I collected it, Alex was fiddling with the crown across the desk trying to set it properly. I remember it vividly now. At the time I did not give it a second thought because I was talking to him, he was fiddling with it, and I simply assumed everything was in order. I took the watch and put it in my bag. Looking back, it clearly was not right then. It came back from their service centre (wherever that is - the jury is still out on that too) exactly like that.

So when the penny dropped a couple of weeks ago, I emailed Alex. He apologised, said it didn’t sound right, and said to get it back in and they would put it right. So I took it back in and dealt with Lina in his absence.

What was odd was that whilst we were speaking, Lina initially stated that it had been serviced “in the back”. When I asked “are you sure?”, she paused, checked her screen, and then said “no, it went to Rolex”. That struck me as very odd and raised an alarm bell.

My immediate reaction to the fault had been exactly that — I simply couldn’t believe Rolex would send a watch retailing at just under £40,000 back with such an obvious problem in the date/day mechanism.

I also found it surprising that when Lina booked the watch back in, her notes referred to the crown being worn, scratches on the glass, case and bracelet, and a mark or dent on the lower left lug.

Again, she rarely wears it and I simply do not accept the suggestion that it has somehow been heavily damaged within a year of a full service - after being worn a handful of times.

Then came the email from Julie Speechly. Rather than taking responsibility, her position was that the impact noted on the case lug at 7 o’clock “negates the service guarantee” and that we should now expect another bill of around £970, with further charges optional for the crystal and crown!

In other words, the response was to use whatever they could hang onto to knock me back and avoid having to spend any money on putting it right. It is a pathetic excuse. A load of utter rubbish. Pure cop out.

This watch is now 30 years old. It has been knocked 1001 times over the course of its life, and never before has that ever happened.

So why now? Why after a Rolex service through David M Robinson? Are we really supposed to believe that a £40,000 piece of Rolex mastercraft just happened to develop this bizarre revolving white plate problem immediately after service, and that the convenient explanation is that she must have knocked it?

I do not believe that for one second.

Alex couldn’t get his head around the correct leather strap for my Daytona either. That service cost just under £2,000. It needed a brown strap. It has a chestnut strap on it. That went back and forth as well, hugely confused, and simply wasn’t right either.

A bitterly disappointing and frankly unbelievable experience.

Steer well clear is my advice. Pick a different Rolex authorised company.

I recently had original diamond drop earrings made for me at David M Robinson in Liverpool. From start to finish, Alex, the manager, could not have been more helpful and thoughtful. The results were amazing - my stunning earrings and little diamond stud earrings for my daughter. He definitely went above and beyond to get the earrings just right. I was really happy with the whole experience.

Got the new reverse panda speed master shortly after the release and a couple of weeks later I get called for a Date Just and a flamingo Tudor !
