Poor service & installation
Ordered three large windows and doors to be fitted in our extension.
Encountered many problems.
• A constantly changing installation date
• An attempt to overcharge by over £1200
• Damage to our property when windows installed
• A poor finish in two areas
• Staff who lied to cover up shortcomings
Crystal Clear blamed our installation date changes on a problem with the manufacture of one of the windows and their automated email system which sent a spurious email with a different installation date. This was stressful as we had other tradespeople booked in (plasterers etc.). Having explained that we would be out of the country the week prior to installation, it was frustrating to receive a phone call from Crystal Clear while away, stating that the installation date had been pushed back by a day.
A second stage payment invoice for £1222 too much. At least this only took a day for Crystal Clear to sort out and admit there was an error.
Worst of all was the damage to a wooden soffit and fascia board. The Crystal Clear fitters ripped out a chunk over two feet long. One of the fitters blamed it on the board being rotten - absolute nonsense as the fascias and soffits were installed only a few years ago.
An electricity cable that had previously been neatly tucked away behind a window frame was left partly exposed, partly hidden and partly covered in expanding foam. The finish on the opposite side of the room (where the window meets the wall) was also terrible.
Kevin, the head of installations at Crystal Clear, had visited us prior to installation to measure and talk through the work. He agreed that the installers would remove the existing windows and take them away. He gave absolutely no indication that the work would be problematic. (On installation day the team from Crystal Clear finished in the mid afternoon and did not have another job to go to. They could have taken far more time and care with our job.)
We raised a complaint with senior staff at Crystal Clear in an email, but no one replied. Only by contacting the MD, James Mizen, on his mobile phone did we elicit a response.
After a professional and courteous call with Kevin Coles, things went rapidly downhill again. A visit by Paul Durbin did not give us any confidence and his subsequent email justifying the appalling fitting and service was full of inaccuracies and lies.
Just over 3 weeks after the original installation, Crystal Clear returned to put right the damage and make good the terrible finish. This they did well. But too little, too late.
The quality of the windows and doors is good, but the service and installation very poor.
BELOW IS OUR RESPONSE TO THAT OF CRYSTAL CLEAR
This was not a 'new build' as an existing extension was in place and Crystal Clear had agreed to remove the old windows. Paul Durbin (Operations Director at Crystal Clear) informed us that Kevin (Head of Installations) had completed the paperwork for our works. In the section that covered whether our job was a new build he had written ‘Sort of’. That sums up the attention to detail.
Given the appalling finishes we experienced, any readers of this review should not agree to a ‘new-build works contract’.
When Paul Durbin visited us, it was our builder’s last day on the job. We made it clear then that he would not be repairing the extensive damage caused by your fitters. Why should he?!
Most sensible people would agree that if a company sends an invoice to a customer requesting a payment for £1222.00 too much then that is an attempt to overcharge them.
Here is a selection of lies we have been told by Crystal Clear.
MD James Mizen claiming he did not receive our original email of complaint. We not only received an automated response from his email account, but when Paul Durbin visited us, he confirmed that as our complaint had been sent to both James and Kevin (Installations), both had left it to the other to respond.
Paul Durbin originally claimed that there was no agreement to remove the existing windows from our extension. He later had to retract this claim, and we have this in writing.
A claim by a Crystal Clear fitter that the fascia and soffit were rotten. Even worse, that we had recently repainted the fascia boards and had matching paint left to use on repairs! We have never had to paint or treat the boards as they are only a few years old.

We are pleased, however, that you were happy with the quality of the windows and doors and that, as you acknowledge, the remedial work we carried out was completed well.
We would like to clarify a few points for anyone reading the review, as we do not believe some of the comments fairly reflect the circumstances.
The project was sold as a **new-build works contract**, with limited finishing included within the agreed scope. It was not sold as a complete finishing and making-good package. Nevertheless, when concerns were raised following installation, we returned to the property and carried out additional remedial work beyond the original installation scope in an effort to resolve matters.
With regard to the fascia and soffit, our installers did cause some damage during the installation and, importantly, this was brought to your attention at the time. We understood that you were happy for your builder to deal with the repair as part of the wider building works. Despite this, we subsequently returned ourselves and repaired the damage as a gesture of goodwill. We are pleased that you have confirmed that this work was done well.
We also want to address the suggestion that we attempted to overcharge you by £1,222. This was **not an attempt to overcharge you**. Changes had been made to the original works, which changed the finance and payment figures. Unfortunately, this amendment was missed by our accounts team when the stage-payment invoice was raised. It was a genuine administrative mistake, which we acknowledged and corrected promptly when it was brought to our attention. We are sorry that the error occurred, but we feel it is important to distinguish an administrative mistake from an intentional attempt to overcharge a customer.
We also accept that the changes to the installation date were frustrating, particularly given that you had other trades arranged. There were genuine issues affecting the installation schedule, including a manufacturing issue with one of the units, as well as an automated email being issued with an incorrect date. We understand the inconvenience this caused.
We do, however, strongly disagree with the suggestion that our staff lied or attempted to cover up shortcomings. Our team were open about the damage at the time, and when the concerns were raised, we investigated them and returned to carry out remedial work. The discussion with Paul centred largely around the agreed scope of the contract and the distinction between what was originally sold and the additional finishing work that was subsequently undertaken. We appreciate that this may not have been the answer you wanted, but it was an attempt to explain the position honestly rather than to avoid responsibility.
Ultimately, we recognise that the installation experience was not perfect, and we are sorry for the inconvenience caused. At the same time, we believe it is important to point out that we did not simply walk away from the issues. We listened to your concerns, returned to the property, completed remedial work and went beyond the original scope in an effort to put matters right.
We respect that you are entitled to your opinion and to leave a review based on your experience. We simply wanted to provide some context and ensure that the review also reflects the steps we took to resolve the issues raised.

Cracked inner pane (4inch carack) had to be replaced
Replacement glass for bedroom had a 4inch crack on inside pane and had to be replaced. New front door middle panel blistered and had to be replaced, that had blister so waiting for a replacement for the replacement. Hope it will be ok this time. If it is not one wonders if it is fit for purpose.

They worked so hard in the full sun but kept going. They have done a fantastic job, can't fault them. Workmanship perfect, friendly, tidy and respectful. Great Sales and Installation but let down by lack of communication
Second time using Crystal Clear as very impressed the 1st time around. This time Nigel in Sales was excellent. Very supportive and helpful. This morning two members of the installation team turned up at the front door whilst I was on a work call. They had come to fit our new patio doors. Jason and Jamie (the fitters) were excellent (nice guys) and have done a really great job. There is however a "but" here - the installation team turned up but no-one in the customer service team had communicated anything to tell us they were coming (we had been estimated mid June). So in summary - great start and end to the process but zero points for essential communication. I did have to adjust my day which was inconvenient and if it had been tomorrow we would both have been in the office and poor Jason and Jamie would have been left standing outside.

Poor aftersales
I find Crystal clear windows aftersales poor as I have had two problems since 23 November 2018 that are still unsolved. Broken double glazed unit and damp entering at window seal.

Thank you for your feedback. We are sorry that you feel let down by our aftersales service.
However, we feel it is important to clarify the circumstances surrounding this matter. As soon as you made us aware of the failed sealed unit, we arranged to address the issue. During our discussions, you advised that the problem had been present for some time but had not previously been reported to us. You also raised other potential concerns which, likewise, had not been brought to our attention before.
As outlined in our terms and conditions, any issues should be reported within 30 days of discovery so that they can be investigated and resolved promptly. Despite this, and as a gesture of goodwill, we have agreed to replace the failed sealed unit free of charge.
With regard to the additional issue you reported, this will be inspected and assessed by our engineer during the scheduled visit to replace the sealed unit.
Given that we have responded promptly once notified and have agreed to carry out remedial work at no cost, we are disappointed by the 1-star rating and do not feel it accurately reflects the support we have provided in this case.

Jason and J did a professional and efficient job replacing a French windows, back door and double glazing unit replacement. They were pleasant , polite and accommodating.
The work was competitively priced up by the experienced team at Brislington ( Norman) and measured in detail shortly ( Simon) after. The manufacturing work was estimated precisely and a two day installation date offered, accepted and fulfilled. This is the3 rd time I have used Crystal Clear since 2915 for replacing all my wooden windows. They continue to offer a first class competitive service, and are Bristol based.

We had all of our windows and our patio…
We had all of our windows and our patio doors replaced with Crystal Clear. It was a great experience overall. The team were quick to get us measured up and provide a quote and then production of the windows and doors was also quicker than expected! Installation was great and we have really noticed the difference. The house is a lot quieter and warmer now, which is fantastic! I'd very happily recommend Crystal Clear to anybody looking to replace their windows or doors.
