I am in month 3 dealing with the mounds of paperwork required….much of which has already been completed and uploaded to their portal by myself as well as the administrator of the nursing center where she now resides. What a joke! My 90 year old mother has paid for LTC insurance for herself and my now deceased step-father for 25 years. My step-father passed away without ever using the policy. Now my mother needs long term care which she thought she had carefully planned out to save her children the cost and headache of paying for LTC. What a complete nightmare this process with them has been. Others who have posted about calling and getting an overseas call center are totally correct.
We have received a denial notice and currently have an appeal pending. These people should be ashamed of taking money from elderly people that trust they will be cared for when needed!
I’m sure most people just give up especially if they don’t have anyone advocating for them! There is NO way a person needing this kind of care could possible complete all the required documentation they require!
I am in the process of finding an Elder Care attorney to fight these crooks!

This company is impossible to work
With. All phone contacts are outside the USA and their employees routinely lie about what they promise. I overpaid a premium and was promised a refund. five weeks later a check was mailed but did not arrive. When I finally got through they promised a new check, however, the next day it arrived and I called them to cancel stop payment. They assured me they would and to deposit check. However, they still stopped payment and now told me to wait another four weeks. They also denied that I ever contacted them dispite three calls I made.

No way to speak to anyone in the United States. Hope I never need to use the policy but have paid thousands over the past thirty years.

My business is a current customer of CNA but the payment ability is very frustating. They issued an invoice for almost $6750 for the first half of the year and want it paid by the due date. That isn't the issue! The issue is that they won't accept more than $5000/day as part of their "fraud protection". So I have to cancel autopay to make a smaller payment and once initiated, re-signup for the autopay to take care of the rest of the payments for the year. This is the way this company did business last year and they still are doing it this year.

Not your typical level of obstruction from an insurance company

Like many others here, I've had a horrific experience trying to get any form of payment for my 92-year-old mother's care after she spent more than 30 years paying for long-term care insurance. Just submitting a claim is a nightmare--I did what the claim form said to the letter and whenever I called to see why nothing was happening they kept saying they needed more information and more paperwork. Over and over and over again.

After weeks of back and forth they finally said that her claim had been approved. Again nothing happened. Despite two care companies submitting endless rounds of paperwork meeting every request from CNA and proving some 60 home visits, the company kept claiming that we hadn't met the policy's 30-day exclusion period to get paid for her care.

My mother passed away earlier this month. We still have received no payments. Even worse, she paid a hugely inflated annual premium last month, which according to her policy she is due back in full. When I've called about that (another maddening round of call after call), I've been told variously that 1) her premium would be refunded immediately, 2) her premium would be refunded once I submitted yet more paperwork but it would take weeks; and 3) that she didn't qualify to have her premium refunded (a total lie given what her policy states).

Stay away from these fraudsters.

One star is FAR too generous for this sorry company.
They make the claim process much too complicated for what it is (a $28,000 policy) and I feel like they do it purposefully to get people to finally just throw up their hands and give up.
My 90 year old dad's care is roughly $11,000 per month, and this tiny policy is ridiculous anyway.
They require a new care form submitted by the facility EVERY MONTH (on top of the 20+ forms already submitted) like somehow, he's going to get better and his care is going to be less.
Geez!!

My mother has paid 25 years, nearly $65,000 in premiums. She suffers from a terminal illness, CNA approved 12 hours a week of in home care for 6 months, then denied further care since she’s healing? From a terminal illness. They are frauds. And thieves. Total scumbags.

If I could give CNA insurance a zero I would when it comes to their long-term care insurance they totally suck. My mom has been paying since 1993 And when we went to get benefits They only gave us 25% because they said that their new policy is that the assisted living homes have to have a nurse on staff seven days a week. The facility my mom is in as a nurse on duty five days a week and on call 24/7 7 days a week! In addition, this was not a stipulation in her original policy and they said that there was a class action in the early 2000s which changed that But of course, we were never notified of this and if we had done would’ve switched to a different long-term care policy. She is in a Catholic taste home which she loves because she is Catholic and they charge 6800 a month which includes everything and we are being told that we could move her to another facility that has a nurse on staff seven days a week and they would pay for it and it would cost them $9300 a month Which I find to be totally ridiculous. They obviously do not have the right people working for them. Their attorneys suck, and I would love to sue them but because they’re so big, they would probably win.

To say that this is even an insurance company is a joke. Completely incompetent- if I could go back and not ever pay a premium to this company, I wouldn’t. Accurate to see this on local news about how bad this company is. They will NOT pay claims! Don’t use this company for your “insurance”.

BEWARE 2001 long term health insurance paid…

2001 long term health insurance paid 1,300 a year promised, last year 5,500 now 50.4% increase for same policy. up to 9500 a year or no more and coverage for a year and a few months!!! the costs for this policy went up 545%. so at 77 essentially i am left high and dry. DO NOT PURCHASE THEIR INSURANCE

Giving this insurance company 1 star is…

Giving this insurance company 1 star is generous considering how stressful they've made this entire experience for me. A driver insured by CNA hit my car & was found liable to fix the damages. It took months for them to accept liability and have the damages repaired. They assigned me to a claim agent that was never in office, never answered phone calls, never returned phone calls or emails... I even went to her supervisor to try to get a hold of her but he didn't answer his phone or emails either!! And when she finally got back to me, after I'm assuming her supervisor contacted her about me calling and emailing him, she finally called me with an attitude about how busy she was and how she's always on her phone??? Make it make sense... awful awful awful. I'd rather chew my own foot off than ever have to deal with them again.

Work comp payments

My husband broke his back on the job and has a claim with CNA and the payments are not handled well at all. They never come on time and they skip week at time. We have suffered and done without food gas and anything else that we needed. We can't get answers about what's going on with the payments. They are sparatic. I hope we are only ones going through this. God bless

This is the worst company

This is the worst company. My father died August 31 2024. They finally called me June 1 2025 to say they had approved part of the claim for care. They say checks re in the mail then they never arrive. Every time you call some new minion screws around nothing is resolved. These people are liars and thieves. Run away from this company. Worst experience ever. I will end up suing them as they are horrible.

My father passed away 7 months after entering care with no benefits received and my mother is now on hospice and has been denied 3 times. CNA preys on the elderly making them think they are doing something good for their children and instead it causes nightmares for their children. Their practices should be illegal and if I had more money I would hire an attorney.

Nightmare experience with CNA

My late wife took out a long term care policy with CNA about 25 years ago. In 2023 she was diagnosed with Interstitial lung disease and congestive heart failure. She required Oxgen for the rest of her life. On leaving the hospital I did not consider filing a claim on her CNA policy (she would have qualified for it under CNA's guidelines) which I should have, but decided to caretake myself which I did for the next 2 years. By doing so I saved CNA nearly $150k in daily benefits. Did that count for anything according to CNA, although in the contract it was disputable - absolutely no. In December 2024 due to her deteriorating conditions she blackedout and fell over fracturing a vertebae. This resulted in another hospital stay. She was not able to withstand any rehab because of her underlying conditions so she was released to go to a skilled nursing facilty. Her condition did not improve so she came home on hospice care. At this point I called CNA to find out how to file a claim. After explaining the history of my wife's condition, I was informed by their customer service department that the most recent hospital and skilled nursing stays should count towards the 90 day waiting period before benefits would start. I then filed a claim. After a 45 minute telephone conversation where they asked for every detail, about her history, daily notes for her stays, doctors involved with treatment including all contact information. I asked if CNA required me to provide documentation to support the telephone call. I was told that the claims department would contact the facilities and doctors themselves. This is when the nightmare started. Firstly the hospital and nursing home stays were not counted in the 90 days. I recounted what customer service had told me and the answer was we at the claims department make the decisions. Also in spite of the fact that the contract stated the waiting period was 90 days, I was then told that it was 90 service days. According to CNA that meant that in order to qualify for a day we needed to have a home care company approved by CNA to provide at least 5 hours help day. Approved meant that the company had to have a licence in Texas but also to be on CNA's approved list. So not only did we have to wait 90 "service" days until benefits started, we had to pay for the services of the "approved" company as well. We quickly found out that getting approval for anything required reems of paper and a lot of time. Everything took 10 days to 14 days. We received a multitude of correspondence from CNA which also took at least 14 days to receive from the date on the letters. Often the letters contained information which was repetitive and sometimes appearing to be conflicting. At the best it was confusing. When calling CNA, which I did often to try and clarify issues, you always talked to a different person every time. In each call you had to give the "Certificate" number, and every time I had to identify myself as the husband and approved representative of my wife. Talking directly to the claims manager, claims coordinator, or management was out of the question. Every time I called in I was often told a different story which seemed to change on a daily basis. In some cases. it seemed to me dishonesty appeared to be apparent. It seemed to me often that they would tell me anything to get me off the line. I called the entities and in several cases they were often never contacted by CNA. So i put a comprehensive package together with all supporting documentation. The receipt of this package was never acknowledged and further the multitude of forms that CNA demanded to be completed were claimed to have never been received. Also supporting documentation fromsome of the entities, were often claimed to have never been received . In some cases the information had to be sent many times without acknowledgement. It was quite clear to me that the edict of the CNA management was to deny, disrupt and delay everything. Do whatever you can to avoid paying any benefits at all. Make it so difficult, complicated, and costly (because of of the required help), and time consuming. This of course was designed to make many customers just give up. Watching my wife dying a bit more each day was stressful enough but dealing with CNA increased the stress substantially for both my wife and I. Over a 25 year period we paid $38k. She died half way through the waiting period, so we get no benefits, plus we had to pay about $15k in help which we did not need. I can honestly say that CNA is the worst company that I have ever dealt with in my 84 years of living. No wonder they get such terrible ratings I would rate them with 5 negative stars

My grandmother paid $81,000 for nothing!

My grandmother paid $81,000 into CNA LTC. Now 94 yrs old and trying for 2 years to get monies to no avail. Social services intervened and now will be in a nursing home and all assets of her taken by the state of NC. CNA has made our lives miserable. She lost everything and CNA kept all monies!!!
FRAUD TO THE HIGHEST!!!
Claim#C77081531 look it up to see all of Amys money your keeping from her to save the company money to pay corporate employees a big bonus for a yatch! SHAMEFUL

Lies

This is by far the worst company I have ever dealt with!!! You don't want to pay your customers the money that is due them!! We pay in, but you make it Sooo hard to pay out what is due to your policy holder!!! 😡 I have been working on behalf of my sibling who has dementia, and have spent countless hours on the phone, and 3 months has passed, and it's still NOT resolved. DO BETTER!!!

If I could give them negative 5 stars, I would. They will do anything to not cover a claim. I had an electrical issue with my vehicle that was caused by water intrusion. The dealership says that they see this happening quite a bit, in just wear and tear but at no fault to the owner. CNA would not cover this. Please save yourself some money and do NOT use CNA.
