We had Bournes to pack the day before our move and Jack & Dean arrived to pack , they worked so hard with a smile , a pleasure to be around .Then for our move on 22nd July , we had Jack , Cameron , Scott & Arran they worked tirelessly on a very hot day .
The lads were brilliant and nothing was too much trouble , would highly recommend Bournes

I recently used Bournes for my house move in Tunbridge Wells and, unfortunately, my experience was disappointing.

I chose Bournes because of their reputation, and also paid separately for their optional removals insurance for additional peace of mind. Given the cost of both the move and the insurance, I expected my belongings to be handled with great care and to be properly protected if anything went wrong.

Unfortunately, during the move, my 55" Samsung television was damaged beyond repair while in Bournes' care. In my opinion, the removal team appeared to be in a hurry throughout the day, and I believe this rush contributed to the damage.

In addition to the damaged television, some of the screws from my furniture/items were lost during the move, leaving them unusable until I can source suitable replacements. This gave me the impression that my belongings were not handled with the level of care I expected from a professional removals company.

I had moved house two years earlier with another removals company, who packed and transported all of my belongings, including the same television, for a similar price without causing any damage. This made my experience with Bournes even more disappointing.

Although Bournes accepted responsibility for the damaged television, the insurance only compensated me based on its second-hand market value rather than the actual cost of replacing it. As a result, despite paying separately for the additional insurance, I still have to contribute a significant amount of my own money to replace an item that was damaged during the move. While I understand this is in line with the policy terms, it was not the level of protection I expected when purchasing the extra insurance.

I do, however, want to recognise Jake and Emily, who were professional, responsive and communicated with me throughout the process. They dealt with any issues that arose and were a pleasure to deal with. Claire from the claims team was also polite and handled the claim professionally.

Unfortunately, despite the professionalism of those individuals, the overall experience left me disappointed. The damage to my belongings, the loss of furniture screws, and the financial loss I have had to absorb mean that I would not use Bournes again or recommend them based on my experience.

The crew that actually came and managed the move, excellent. The office staff, unhelpful, borderline rude and everything is too much trouble.

Whilst a little more expensive than most we now know that you are worth every penny. Communication is the key and we were kept informed by Andy before during and after our move, the crew, lead by team leader Jamie, Howard and Dan were supermen in red with nothing being too much trouble.

★★★★★ An outstanding international move – with some constructive suggestions

Moving your entire life to another country after more than 30 years in one home is undoubtedly one of life's most stressful experiences. Having now completed our relocation from Surrey to the Netherlands, I wanted to take the time to write a considered review that reflects the entire journey.

The short version is this: I would recommend Bournes without hesitation.

From the outset, Tom's survey was thorough, professional and reassuring. It gave us confidence that we were dealing with a company that understood the scale and complexity of an international move.

As our move progressed, we were supported by Cristina and Gabriel, who guided us through customs paperwork, insurance, storage, vehicle import queries and all the administration that inevitably accompanies a post-Brexit move to Europe. They were always courteous, responsive and genuinely keen to help.

Where Bournes really excelled, however, was with the people who actually packed and moved our home.

A very special thank you goes to Dan, Jamie, Gary, Matthew and Adam.

Dan, Jamie, Gary and Matthew packed our entire home during one of the hottest days ever recorded in UK history. Working from 8:00am until 5:00pm, in extraordinary temperatures, they never stopped. Despite the heat and the sheer physical effort involved, they remained cheerful, respectful of our home, incredibly organised and treated every possession with care.

Watching thirty years of memories disappear into carefully labelled cartons was strangely emotional, but their professionalism gave us complete confidence that everything was in safe hands.

The second part of the journey was equally impressive.

On delivery day in the Netherlands (a week later), Matthew and Adam arrived at our temporary home in the far east of the country exactly at 8:00am. They then undertook the enormous task of unloading our entire household, not just to one destination, but to two separate locations—our rental property and our storage facility.

Once again, nothing was too much trouble. They worked tirelessly, with remarkable energy, good humour and professionalism throughout. After driving across Europe, they still approached the day with enthusiasm and care that genuinely exceeded our expectations. They are an enormous credit to Bournes.

Of course, no complex international move is entirely without its challenges, and I think it's only fair to mention a few constructive observations.

The insurance valuation process was far more complicated than we had anticipated. It took several revisions before we fully understood exactly how the insurers wanted the inventory presented. A clear example template at the outset would have saved many hours of unnecessary work and anxiety.

Similarly, some aspects of the customs documentation—particularly around Dutch registration, BSN numbers, relocation paperwork and vehicle import—could benefit from clearer explanations for customers unfamiliar with the process. Everything was eventually resolved, but there were occasions when ambiguity in emails created unnecessary concern during what is already a stressful time.

These comments are offered purely because Bournes are already such a good company, and relatively small improvements in communication would make an already excellent service even better.

Looking back now, it almost seems unbelievable.

On the Monday our entire house in Surrey was packed.

A week later, Bournes had transported our lives across international borders and, on Tuesday morning at exactly 8:00am, were unloading everything into both our temporary Dutch home and storage facility.

That level of organisation, logistics and teamwork is genuinely impressive.

The true measure of a removals company isn't whether nothing unexpected ever happens. It's how they respond when challenges arise and how confidently they carry you through one of life's biggest transitions.

Bournes did exactly that.

To everyone involved—Tom, Cristina, Gabriel, Dan, Jamie, Gary, Matthew and Adam—thank you! You helped us start a completely new chapter of our lives with confidence, and we are genuinely grateful.
