More empty promises from Boox after my initial review/complaint on Trustpilot. Received response from a team leader the next day after posting review, who promised he would make it the “highest priority” to sort concerns and situation out.
To date (nearly three weeks) I have received no contact form Boox, despite more emails sent to the team leader, which have been ignored!!!

BOOX is an excellent accounting firm. They set up my company for me. All I did was to provide the information they need and they did the rest. My business is up and running and my dedicated accountant is very patient making sure everything is done correctly. Boox's customer service is exceptional and they've got flexible payment options.
I will NOT hesitate to recommend Boox to anyone who needs an accountant.

All of the good reviews on here are to do with your service while you are an active customer with Boox - and I would agree that while you are an active customer there isn't much to complain about as generally you have little to no dealings with your "dedicated accountant" and any questions are generally straight forward enough for them to answer, should they arise.

My issues came when I had to close my accounts. As echoed by a lot of the bad reviews on here, you basically have to constantly check up on the status of your account, otherwise you will hear nothing. The closure fee is over £300 (due to their policy of having to cancel 3 months in advance) which I don't have a problem with assuming I actually receive the service I would expect to. I find it utterly unacceptable that I have to do this much chasing just to get some kind of understanding on what is happening with my accounts. The biggest issue is I get no response over email and constantly need to phone up which is very inconvenient for me.

I also paid for the Tax Return service to which I have also received no update for considering I registered for this service in April and it is now almost August.

I would not recommend using Boox for either of these services until their customer service improves as their entire purpose is to make things easy and hassle free for people who don't have time or don't know how to handle their accounts themselves.

This is an update of an earlier review of BOOX, upon request to use less descriptive language.

This update is in accordance to that request and in keeping with Trust pilot compliance, nevertheless it must be understood that this amendment in no way detracts from the truth of the original statement. It is merely an attempt to communicate to the public the message, have nothing to do with BOOX Accounting. Find a tried, tested reputable Accountancy firm so that you can get advice that services your best financial interests and not those of BOOX Accounting or HMRC.

I write also for the purpose of warning anyone, who like myself, is a healthcare professional turned independent service provider, to avoid BOOX accounting specifically, but also to avoid this particular category of accountancy service provider in general with their over priced monthly fees, of which BOOX is but one particularly obnoxious example. (My advice is to seek out a reputable accountancy firm yourself. You'll probably find that you'll get a comparable service at a fraction of the price, once you look at what you shell out over the course of a year).

Here are 3 very good reasons for taking heed, taken from personal experience of BOOX Accounting and their app:
1. My so-called personal BOOX accountant was able to bag extra income for the BOOX company, by offering to register my company for VAT under the guise of this being a form of extra revenue. He DID NOT AT ANY POINT inform me that VAT is purely collecting tax on behalf of HMRC and should not be viewed as income. He DID NOT AT ANY POINT inform me that I would have to pay BOOX an additional fee the sum of £11.00 every month for their VAT services so kindly offered to me to undertake, (bagging for BOOX an additional income at my expense of £132.00 +VAT- on top their already existing fees). Neither did he tell me that my company, as a health service provider and the annual revenue below the threshold for VAT, made it not appropriate for registration.
BOOX Accountants claim to be professionals. (You decide whether they are professionals or just a bunch of professionals serving their own financial agendas). My advice is do not touch with a barge poll. FIND A REPUTABLE ACCOUNTANT willing to work with you to your benefit. Definitely they will wish to bamboozle the lay person with their accountancy jargon to justify their actions, but the facts speak for themselves. A clear lack of transparency in their communications, rendering BOOX untrustworthy.

2. BOOX charge through the nose for a mediocre service, in line with similar Accountancy companies selling their apps as the next best thing. My experience has been that even when you are not earning a penny, (therefore there are literally NO monthly ACCOUNTS to do) BOOX will charge you regardless. Therefore between December 2016 and June 2017, I had zero earnings, yet BOOX insisted on deducting their standard fee of £110.00 each month + VAT, whilst at the same time insisting that their app had instructed that none of my other expenses could be accepted except the mobile phone and the accounting bill. DURING THIS SAME PERIOD of 6 months BOOX took over £500.00 in payment for doing virtually nothing and I was not even permitted according to the BOOX accountant to draw legitimate expenses. (This is to demonstrate the point that BOOX appear to prioritise what's in their own best financial interest at the cost of the paying client).

3. BOOX has on several occasions given financially stupid advice, which only comes to light when you speak to Accountants who are more transparent in their practises.
Here's a Specific example, as a company, the need to maintain an audit trail and to have information about company spending is essential for future planning and growth. I asked my so-called personal BOOX Accountant whether it was advisable to use my company card to pay for company related expenses, or whether to make payments from my personal account and submit them as expenses for refund via the BOOX app at a later time. Of course, I got the financially poor advice to pay for my company expenses from my personal money. (I hope that everyone can see that this is the wrong thing to do and that Micky Mouse might as well have given me this advice, for all the financial prudence it lacked).

Please take my advice, shun BOOX and their app. Find Accountants who are reputable, who know what they're doing and who's activities serve to benefit you and not themselves.

A bit apprehensive in making change to Boox from relatively simple to use Umbrella Company.
No problems what so ever.Any issues dealt with almost immediately.

I believe that people which had real interactions with Boox accountants post here low scores, the rest was spared that pleasure to interact directly with them, hence higher ratings.
From my experience, for starts the application itself (both web and mobile) are very good, work nicely and are very intuitive. That is a big plus, cause if your business does not need any additional advice or consultations with your dedicated accountant this might even work for you, but to be honest I wouldn't count on it.
All the work that I (and probably you) depend on from my accountant is to provide proper support and advice on how to handle books and general stuff. Frankly this interactions is below any critic. More than not, even when you receive some information these are fairly vague and after 5-6 emails or calls you get an idea what needs to be done. You have to chase and make follow-ups cause if not, you will not get things done. Instead of shielding me from some of the domain specific things from accounting and focus on my business, I had to look up everything to even ask the right question cause I was not informed what needs to be done. Also
not keeping deadlines given verbally, or written in emails is very often.
All in all, if you consider Boox as a service for you, I would advise, think again.

As a first time company director I have found that all of the Boox staff I have had contact with to be very professional and supportive in setting up my company.

Really want to shoutout Aran Taylor my BOOX accountant, I have had other BOOX accountants that have been there for a few months then moved on and then I was dumped with another accountant and back to square one explaining everything etc it was hard but as soon as I was given Aran he has sorted everything right out, he answers any questions that I am unsure about and gets everything very efficiently, Top Bloke Fives Stars all the way, he needs a big phat dividend out of your profits give the guy a bonus!!

I've only just registered with Boox but so far after a month, all the dealings I've had with various members of the Boox team have been helpful and professional. The Boox Software/App looks like it will meet my needs and the people I've spoken to have been knowledgeable about my particular circumstances (e.g. working in the public sector and new IR35 rules) and able to me and answer all my questions.

I just started working with Boox and so far, I found them really good. Always helpful, very quick answers to my question, user friendly platform. They made the process of starting as a freelance a lot easier!

I have had no credible service from BOOX.
I have paid my money & not yet received any service.
They have phoned me during the day, but I am working & cannot take the calls through my working hours.
BOOX have promised to call me twice in the evening to show me how to operate their software, but they have not followed up with the promised phone calls.
I paid my fee on 06-04-17, it is 25-04-16 at the point of writing this review, that's 19 days!!!! & I still don't know what is happening. If this level of service continues I will be withdrawing my business.
