I was a Boox's customer for around 2 years. It started off well but I quickly started to question what I was paying for. I was concerned no one was actually looking over my accounts or being pro active in getting me the best from my HMRC. Turned out to be completely true.

I was fined £100 for not submitting tax return, I was confused as Boox's had sent me an email 6 months before saying it had been submitted? I had even paid my tax that year! Turned out they didn't actually submit it, they blamed it on an IT issue. How can an IT issue go unchecked for 6 months? How come no one checked my HMRC account to see if my tax was submitted or even rejected for what reason? It took 3 months plus months to sort this issue out. They were very unhelpful, they failed to reply to many of my emails emails and failed to return calls. I was sent a lot of paper mail by HMRC which I had to forward on to Boox's, isn't that my accountants job of dealing with HMRC? The whole issue was sitting on my shoulders for 3 months. Boox's paid the fine but they didn't refund me for an incomplete service / poor job. Normally If I agree to pay some one to do something and they don't do it, that person doesn't get paid - or at least the full amount.

I had other issue as well. I was registered for VAT at one point and the rules changed, which meant it was no longer positive for me to be VAT registered. My accountant didn't flag this, he left me on VAT for 6 months. I worked it out myself and had to tell him to sort it out personally. Again, what were Boox's actually doing? Who was reviewing my account?

Another issue I have with them is that they told me to never use my business card for expenses. I was told to always input my expenses manually into their terrible app. Why? It's because my accountant didn't want to do any work of course! If I had no expenses actually going through my business account, the bank statement he uses to work things out is very simple - its basically blank!. I've done all the work by putting the data into their app - manually. So again what was I paying them for? Your personal tax aren't even included in the monthly fee? They charge £100 on top for that!

I know 3 other free lancers who have all said to avoid Boox's, all of them saying they are extremely inactive.

I've have now found another accountant who is £20 cheaper a month, does both business and personal tax, has much better software and is far more active. I can contact him when ever I want and he is well informed about my accounts - all of the time. He even gave me advice in regards to issues I had with Boox's and sorted out all of their mess for free. Wish I had left Boox's a long time ago / never used them.

My experience with Boox has been very good and any of the employees I was in contact with was very helpful and informative.

I have even had follow up call's to make sure everything has been to my satisfaction and if there was any queries or questions I was not to hesitate to ask.

I would definitely recommend Boox's services to others.

Having no previous experience of running my own company I made some errors, however with the efficiency, support and guidance of Boox I managed to navigate my way through it.

Prompt, explained things extremely well and I have no hesitation working with Boox.

Only just started using them but everyone has been really helpful and met all my expectations!

The team at Boox have been very helpful in the process of formation of my limited company - from registering the name, to completing all the paperwork associated with running a business. In addition, they have helped to sort out any accounting issues/queries that I've had and have been very prompt on their communications.

It's still early days, but most of the laborious setup tasks appear to now be complete without issue - it should be alright to hum along now until tax time. I am hopeful (and confident) they will keep up the same level of service for when this time comes.

The self assessment service is terrible. They do not reply emails. I have been chasing the since April to make a change on my Tax Return that is entirely their fault, because they gave me bad advise and I have emails that proofs it. It is quite stressing being a foreigner and having problems with HRMC. You pay a lot of money to have them help you with the self- assessment and they do it even worse than what you would you on your oWn. No doubt GO SOMEWHERE ELSE!

I asked them to put in a self assessment tax return for me, it took them ages to reply and I had to email them multiple times to make it happen. They then forgot to add how much my company had earned which meant I got slammed with a 3000 pound tax bill plus interest 6 months later. When trying to sort that out I got told they would look into it for me (which was nice since they stuffed up). 2 weeks later and 2 emails chasing I am getting no response from my accountant. I called HMRC and sorted it myself. Go somewhere else!

Boox have been great so far. Information at my fingertips but I can still talk to a person. The only improvement would be extended hours so that I could resolve issues outside of working hours.

Boox did my vat registration but didn’t and wouldn’t then give me any of the log in details so I was subsequently unable to cancel it or submit any online vat returns. They were extremely unhelpful with all my enquiries.

Great service overall and the app. is a brilliant tool.

New to being self employed and have been guided and assisted extremely well by the Boox staff on everything I've asked them.

I am new to the world of business and have recently signed up with Boox. I have found the staff at Boox to be extremely helpful, patient and accommodating. They provide clear guidance and if are unsure about any aspect of any queries they look into it and get back to you. I am currently very pleased with the services.

They've been prompt in handling all accounting needs necessary for a self-employed contractor and proactive in their approach to dealing with their customers.

Was referred to this company by a client of mine. I was transitioning from being a sole trader to a Limited Company. Really professional service and they are always there to help me with a query. I find the app really easy to use and they are just at the end of a phone if I'm not sure with anything. Would recommend - and have done!

What started off as "good" a few years ago has quickly developed into "superb". I have no qualms recommending these guys. They're proactive, friendly, communicative and professional. They're especially patient, as I tend to worry a lot and stress about detail when it comes to accounting, but it never seems to phase them.

With the 14 day cool off period now over I guess I know the sort of service I'm going to get. Its basically use of software and some accounting help when you ask, but effectively you need to know what you are doing and manage appropriately. Not massively impressed at the moment.
