My experience with Barings Law has been one of the most exhausting and unprofessional interactions I have ever had with any legal service.

I instructed them to pursue an affordability complaint and two commission claims, and over several years I encountered the same serious issues over and over again:

1. Critical mistakes in handling my case

Barings Law submitted my affordability complaint without the bank statements that were essential evidence.
This omission meant my complaint was immediately rejected by the lender, causing me to lose the opportunity for financial redress.

A year later, Barings Law reviewed my bank statements and confirmed in writing that the finance was unaffordable – evidence they already had but failed to use when it mattered.

2. Contradictory information & moving goalposts

Throughout the process I received:
• Conflicting explanations about the status of my claims
• Different versions of what fees I would or wouldn’t be charged
• Repeated backtracking after I challenged them
• Miscommunication about how many active cases I even had

This clearly shows poor internal communication and a lack of control over client files.

3. Delays with no justification

I experienced:
• No meaningful updates unless I chased them
• Weeks between replies
• Promised letters that never arrived
• Case inactivity for months at a time

Their service was consistently slow, disorganised and dismissive.

4. Failure to take responsibility

Every time I raised legitimate concerns, the response was:
• deflection,
• procedural excuses,
• and zero accountability.

Even after formally complaining, nothing improved. The same issues continued for months afterwards.

5. Ultimately forced to withdraw all my claims

Due to repeated errors, contradictory information, and no confidence that my cases were being handled competently, I instructed Barings Law to close all files.
Their errors in submitting my affordability claims has caused a lost opportunity of around £6,000, which I am pursuing through the appropriate regulatory and legal channels.

I strongly encourage you to:

* Raise a formal complaint in writing directly with Barings Law

They must respond within the timelines set out in their complaints policy. For me this deadline was missed.


* Escalate to the Legal Ombudsman

If they miss deadlines, fail to resolve the issue, or provide a poor service, the Legal Ombudsman can investigate and award compensation.

* Report patterns of behaviour to the SRA

If your experience reflects a wider issue, the SRA need to know.

Barings Law repeatedly hide behind being a ‘high-volume claims firm,’ yet rely on inexperienced, non-legally-trained staff whose contractual, inconsistent handling of cases shows they are not equipped to manage claims competently.

When Barings Law submitted my affordability claim, they failed to request or include my bank statements — treating essential evidence as ‘non-essential’ and relying solely on the lender’s own information — an error so basic it undermines their entire credibility; only in 2024 did they suddenly start requesting bank statements and open-banking data, something any competent firm would have known was fundamental from day one, yet they dismissed their failure as mere ‘procedure’. In my opinion this was negligent once a lender has dismissed the claim. It’s impossible to resubmit it. Barings Law incompetence is 100% responsible for my missed opportunity.

In addition, there is now absolutely no need to use any claims company for car-finance commission claims — unlike in 2021 when I submitted mine. Consumers can now submit these claims directly to their lender through the publicly available Martin Lewis MoneySavingExpert guidance and avoid paying Barings Law a single penny.

Be very mindful of signing up with these guys. They say, what they take is capped at 25% + VAT… This is a lie, it is a total of 48% and you are liable for the ATE premium fee. Should you get £700 they will take £336. Out of the £364 that’s left, depending on how much the ATE premium is, you will take home much less, If not zero!

Don’t realise this too late like I did, read the reviews/contract and make an informed decision. Unfortunately, they stand to make more, if not all of the money from your claim.

Incase anyone doesn’t want to read a lengthy review of my experience with Barings Law - STAY AWAY - simple.

I am starting to question if this is actually a proper solicitor firm. You may have guessed by I sent over 4 car finance claims to this company and before onboarding was promised £10,000 per claim is what they were averaging for customers. Ofcourse that, now 3 years later, doesn’t seem to be the case at all.

I have bared with this company but this year has been the final straw. I called after having information requests to check I what I needed to send in and if they had received what I had sent and a receptionist who couldn’t pass me through nor answer my questions promised I would get a call back. 24hrs later I called again to get the same response who took my details and promised a call back.

It’s been 3 months since that time and still no call back, I have also requested, on numerous occasions, copies of my agreements to refresh my position as 3 months waiting for a call back and several attempts to get my agreements is simply not acceptable. How can I trust this firm to handle legal matters when they can’t perform simple tasks!!

I proceeded to use the live chat feature in their website 2 weeks ago because I couldn’t find an email address to send my complaint to and was advised to send it to info@baringslaw, which I did.

It took 7 days for them to come back to me, completely breaking their own complaints procedure (respond within 2 days with acknowledgment) while they carry out an investigation (neither did they carry out an investigation).

The email dismissed everything I had included in my complaint and didn’t think to address why I was trying to contact them. No attempt at a resolution as it says on their complaints procedure nothing but disappointment yet again. Oh actually they did include my agreements to which they pointed out if I wanted to cancel I would have to pay them.

They even told me because they had been sending me update emails that is good enough. The update emails are send to everybody not just me and is part of a mailing system!!

Joke of a firm, if you can’t call back your clients, send documents when requested or even follow your own complaints procedure what hope do I have of getting my case won!

I want out of this and find a firm that actually cares about it’s clients and reputation rather than just money
