AVOID - Dangerous vehicle

I bought a Suzuki Grand Vitara from Ashton Quality Cars Ltd in July 2025. Shortly after purchase, I had the vehicle inspected by an independent garage. The inspection report, dated 13 August 2025, recorded the mileage as 81,658 and identified serious safety-related defects.
The report recorded extensive structural corrosion and perforation along the chassis rails and sills, including holes and severe metal loss. It also recorded corrosion to rear suspension components, including the trailing arms, spring mounts and shock absorber mountings, with evidence of holes in structural members.
That alone would have been bad enough. But the report also identified significant corrosion to the floor pan and areas around the brake and fuel lines, with perforation close to safety-critical components. It further noted that the brake pipes showed advanced rust and deterioration.
Most seriously, the inspection found that the front right brake caliper was seized, restricting wheel movement. The report stated that this caused drag, uneven braking, pulling to one side, increased overheating risk, and represented a serious safety concern.
The garage’s assessment was clear: the issues were safety-critical, the vehicle would not meet MOT standards, and it would be classed as unroadworthy. The conclusion stated that, based on the defects noted, the vehicle was not roadworthy in its present condition and would fail an MOT test.
None of this was brought to my attention when I bought the car.
This was not a minor used-car niggle. This was not a cosmetic issue. This was a car with serious corrosion, brake defects, structural issues and safety-critical problems, identified shortly after purchase by an independent garage.
The whole situation then dragged on for almost a full year before I finally recovered my money. That meant months of stress, wasted time, correspondence, delays and having to fight for an outcome that, in my opinion, should have been dealt with properly from the start.
Based on my experience, I would never buy from Ashton Quality Cars Ltd again under any circumstances.
If you are considering buying from them, I would strongly recommend getting the vehicle independently inspected before handing over a penny. Check underneath properly. Check the chassis rails, sills, floor pan, rear suspension mounts, brake pipes and calipers. Do not rely on surface appearances.
In my opinion, selling a car with faults like this, and then allowing the matter to drag on for nearly a year, is absolutely disgraceful.
