It had been several days since the 2utyres mechanic had inspected my vehicle, confirming that the wheel bearing had failed and needed replacing. During the inspection he also added that both track rod ends were worn and could be fitted at the same time. So I asked for a quote.
The mechanic called their parts supplier for a price, then calculated the labour. Handed the paperwork to his female college, who then gave me the price of £272.40 inclusive.
The mechanic added that it could be a little bit cheaper if removing the original bearing wasn't complicated.
I asked his female colleague who quoted to write it down on one of their business cards, which she did.
This morning I returned to 2utyres to book-in my car to replace just the bearing, with the intention of replacing the worn track rod ends after Christmas.
I relayed the above information to the guy on reception, who was running the front desk with the exact same woman who gave me the quote. The bearded mechanic who carried out the inspection also popped in briefly & acknowledged me with a nod & "Hello".
I explained that I just wanted the bearing fixed & would like a quote. He too called their parts supplier & then calculated the inclusive cost, which was £230 inclusive!
I explained that it would therefore only cost an additional £40 to supply & fit the two track rod ends including the additional VAT, which made no sense whatsoever.
He stared at me, shrugged his shoulders & said, "Yeah....."
I waited for him to elaborate, but that was all he had for me.
I asked why were the two quotes so at odds and asked the woman if she remembered quoting?
She looked awkward and also shrugged her shoulders.
I asked how was the original quote calculated by the mechanic?
To my surprise he responded with, "He must have made it up!"
So, in conclusion 2utyres, by their own admission, sometimes 'make up quotes' and retain the right not to honour them if they so wish. As in this case.
I still have their business card, with their quote in her handwriting, which I would have uploaded but option doesn't exist.
What a dishonourable bunch! Most definitely not on my Christmas List.

Station Road team were amazing. From a telephone call for a mobile tyre replacement at 4pm to the job complete and back on the road by 430pm, fantastic service with the cost extremely competitive.

Right from my first telephone call, to arriving with my car for diagnostic assistance, I was met with great empathy and a can-do attitude by the Station Road team.
Even though the challenge with my car was not by any means an easy one to resolve, and that I had huge time constraints, they made no empty promises and always conducted themselves in the most ethical manner.
