World of Solar - an historical record of what happened
World of Solar - what can I say...... well they are no longer trading so any comments are really historical and only helpful for consoling other WoS customers. I hope the CEO of WoS reads this because it could have all ended well if they treated their customers a little better.
The quotation for a 10.5 kW solar system was very competitive and cheaper than many other estimates (1st mistake - don't always choose the cheapest !).
My installation was some what novel as the solar panels were ground mounted rather than on a roof. I queried on several occasions - how would they mounted/fix the solar panels. I was fobbed off with 'it'll be fine.... we've done it loads of times before (2nd point - don't believe them !).
There was also the issue of how they would get the DC cable from the solar panels to a barn about 20 meters away and how they would get the AC cable from the inverters to the house (200 meters). Their response to the cable run question didn't convince me and I embarked on laying an HS2 style flexible conduit which went underground and overground. This was a good thing to do as the electricians who turned up could not have completed the job without this.
Now back to the ground mounted solar panels. The electricians tried their best to install the solar panels on concrete blocks with brackets to attach the solar panels to the concrete block. Several problems occurred. All panels ended up at different angles to the horizon. One panel was almost level whereas the optimum angle to the horizon is between 35-50 degs. It looked a bit of a 'dogs dinner'. Several screws which attached the brackets to the concrete block became loose - even before the electrician had left ! I was not happy with the installation of the solar panels. WoS telephoned me on the day asking if everything was going ok - I explained it wasn't. They asked for payment and I refused until the solar panel issue was fixed. To cut a long story short - I paid 90% of the invoice and the rest when the panels were correctly installed. Because my trust in WoS was low, I prepared the ground for the solar panels and modified the brackets to enable a better fit and angle. WoS returned to refit the solar panels and I paid the remaining 10%.
I had further problems with the solar system, but not really caused by WoS, because of high AC voltage especially on sunny days. This was probably caused by my neighbors, who also had solar panels and we were all pumping power back to the grid and raising the grid voltage. To be fair WoS did fit a voltage regulator (free of charge) and all the problems went away.
I have had the solar panel installation for 2 years now and it works great.
Also, I can understand that some people had no problems with their installation and with WoS. If you got a good electrical contractor then you were more than half way there. If you got an average electrical contractor then the follow up with WoS could be a problem.
If you have a Solar System company, my advice would be to make sure you provide good customer support. If you are choosing a company to install solar panels, may be choose a local electrical contractor.
Reflection, two years on
More than two years have now lapsed since my installation on 25 August 2022 so I awaited before providing feedback upon reflection of the experience and claims of returns. I had a 4.8kW system with a Growatt battery (6kW) and inverter. I was unsure what kit I was getting as it had changed so many times from order to installation due to 'shortages from China'. The price appeared competitive at the time for the size of system through installation prices from other suppliers are now considerably lower, like for like. The originally proposed energy cost saving was of the order of £650 per year and although I cannot verify for certain (due to daytime savings due to generation, storage and outgoing energy to the grid with variable rates offered through Octopus Energy), I think this about right. Regarding the selling and installation experience, this was somewhat stressful. All my concerns were put to rest by a less than honest salesman, Steven F*****l. Initially I was hesitant because my roof was full of moss, there were some damaged tiles and I was concerned about further damage during installation. Whilst trying to close the deal Steven lied about having called the scaffolding firm to confirm early scaffolding construction for me to get the roof cleaned and he also assured me that the roofers would replace damaged tiles as they carry spares on the day - all lies. I ended up arranging my own local scaffolders (as World of Solar didn't know of any firms in my area-installation was in Yorkshire whilst World of Solar are based in Chichester). All the work is contracted out and the roofers were not aware of replacing damaged roof tiles or being paid extra to replace them, as I'd been informed-in fact, they didn't carry any tiles, at all. The electricians were also contracted for the installation and came across as very unprofessional. They were rushing to finish quickly and be off by 2.00pm, having arrived mid-morning. One of the panels rattled in the wind, which was reported but nothing was done. Within a year of installation World of Solar were trying to sell me a long term warrantee on a monthly payment basis which kicks-in after a certain period of time. When questioned about this their response was that the usual warrantee only covers parts and not labour but would not inform me as to how this reduces the payback period. The only person of help at the time of installation, in providing support, was Jade B****s. There is no after sales support as you cannot contact them.

Don't go near them!
After an initial efficient process leading up to the instillation, I have found that at least two panels have not been fitted properly so that they vibrate on the roof, in addition, the cables under the panels have been left in a mess, this to one side as it should all be fixable, when raising this with World of Solar I have been fobbed off and now ignored.
I don't mind if there are some snagging issues so long as they are fixed but it has become apparent the World of Solar do the job and run and they do not appear to be interested in after-sales client care!
This matter is ongoing (although with no response from World of Solar) and I am having to pursue them through HIES.

I have tried contacting them many times but the phone goes to the answering machine. E-mails and letters of complaint are ignored. Their staff arranged this and installed were left the company. No one is responsible in this company now. The owner has robbed so much money from the customers and disappeared now. I think they left the business. I only used this company because they are local and had excellent reviews on here, but now they are all gone, very disappointing.

If you don't have your MCS Certificate, call MCS
Great service right up until they received payment. System works, but the handover pack has never been completed, and we cannot set up Smart Export without the MCS certificate. Except after months of them stringing us along with excuses, a call to MCS revealed they have been suspended from MCS, because they are no longer NAPIT registered. this means that if they haven't obtained your MCS certificate, you're not getting it. MCS are able to send it to you if its already in their system - WOS started the process for ours and then never paid for it, so MCS cannot give it to us even with payment, because the certificate was never actually issued. We're now paying someone else to certify the WOS system, and claiming back what we paid WOS from our credit card provider.

I feel so sorry for the people they have ripped off including £12066 in unpaid invoices to my company. Greg was still booking jobs after they went into liquidation which makes him responsible. My debt collectors will be going after him and daniel grant when they liquidate tomorrow. 23/07/24.keep an eye out on the upcoming news. Nice until you pay then they disappear.
Very nice sales rep and the install went almost without a hitch. The last panel was broken just as they went to install it. But they came back and fitted a new one the following day.
My 1 star review is because the company have not sent me the paperwork that they said they would send. They said it might take 6 weeks but our installation was on the 2.4.24 and we still have not received anything and the company will not answer my calls or emails or messages on any platform. This is shocking customer service. I would not recommend this company.

I cannot get hold of them and my system seems to have an issue. Growatt have been cery helpful, but I am going to have to pay another installer to come and sort the issue. I think these guys have gone out of business as no response from calls or emails. Cery sad as the install was great.

I am having exactly same issue with lack of a response from the company. Despite phone calls and emails from me, I have been waiting 3-months beyond the stated 4 to 6 weeks to receive my handover pack containing the MCS certificate that my electricity provider is chasing me for. I was praising the company on their efficient installation but since settling the account I have received no satisfaction from them. Where do I go from here?
Poor after sales service
Unfortunately very disappointed by the service received particularly after sales service. There were several delays to my install in April 2023. The quote was revised upwards twice during these delays.
I decided to stick with them and the install did finally go ahead. The install team were fine. Just 8 months after install though the protective bird mesh around the panels detached and was hanging down the front of the house.
I contacted world of solar in February 2024 to request remedial work to fix this. After chasing the email numerous times I was told I was on a list for repair when a job came up near to me.
I waited but decided to follow up to try and get some indication on timescales. Again several chasing emails sent. I did eventually get a response to say that it can't be repaired in the bird nesting season and to get back to them in August. This is clearly a fobbing off exercise. There is no bird nesting activity and indeed the install took place in April (bird nesting season).
Further emails are now receiving no response and so I've had to escalate the complaint to MCS.
Please be cautious with this company as once the install is completed they are very difficult to contact and have little interest in resolving issues.
Not answering calls and emails
The installation had its challenges but the team were really help full and the bill was paid. My problem is as per other reviews I have no paperwork and there is no response to email or phone calls. Without the certificates the electric companies will not buy the energy produced. Are they still trading?

Shocking company to deal with customer…
Shocking company to deal with customer service seems excellent up to the point of payment and once that happens it seems they drop of the end of the earth.
I'm certain my issues are not massive but they cannot be bothered to reply to my queries. I think the problem is they are based down south whilst I'm up north so they ultimately employ contractors to do the work leaving them out of touch with the work. I've been asked by 4/5 friends if I would recommend WoS thankfully I didn't. 6 months after installation I've received no paperwork on how the system works never mind selling excess power to the grid all in all the only word I can think of for WoS customer service is "SHOCKING"
Will not Recommend again.
I recommended World of Solar to my friend who went ahead and have them fit her system, this was four months ago and she still has not received her paperwork nor been able to get any payment for electricity she has exported. I contacted Salah who arranged my panels to be fitted after having no problems when work was done and to date have not had the courtesy of a reply from him. I wish now I had not given my friend the recommendation because she is so unhappy with them over this as am I. You were paid straight the way from her yet you have not fulfilled your end of it and I will not be giving anyone else your details to have panels fitted. It would seem customer care and contact has now gone out of the window.
Dreadful aftersales service
Up to and including installation I'd have given WoS 5 stars. However it was immediately clear that the monitoring system I had included in the contract wasn't working properly but they have never returned to fix it. 3 months have now passed and they don't respond to messages, calls or any other means of communication. Finally contacted HIES who undertook to arbitrate. However, WoS have not responded to them within their time limit and HIES have now told me to start a process to recover money or to take legal action. I wish I hadn't contracted this company to do the work and I'll have to find another to put the monitoring right and provide guarantees etc.
Just do it !!!
These guys did an amazing job from my initial inquiry to install. Had it done last November and 6 months in I still can not praise them enough. I’m saving around £100 a month on my costs and have just had my first payout from BG. Nothing was a problem for them and the install was hassle free. If you are thinking about solar call them.

If they do good installations I am not amongst those costumers unfortunately.
