Beware of Brightside Moving Group – Total Scam! (1/5 Stars!)
I hired Brightside Moving Group, LLC (US DOT: 4139079) for an interstate move from Kennewick, WA to Colorado City, TX in November 2025. My rep, Shawn McNulty, gave a binding estimate (Ref: M2163678, dated 11/10/2025) for $3,505.08 based on 596 cu ft at $4.00/cu ft, including loading/unloading and basic valuation. Shawn explicitly promised packing was included free for large items like TVs, computers, and more, including all packing materials. The estimate said the price was binding per FMCSA rules (49 CFR § 375.403) and wouldn't change without added items. I paid a $1,235.08 deposit via credit card.
At pickup on 11/13/2025, the carrier (dispatched by Brightside) loaded everything first, then claimed inflated volume (no proof) and demanded ~$8,500 total (up from $3,505). They refused to unload without signing revised papers. Shawn and Brightside were completely unresponsive – no intervention. Under duress (facing abandoned property and lost deposit), I paid the extra $7,265. This violated FMCSA pre-loading reaffirmation rules.
Delivery on 11/28/2025 was delayed beyond promises. The driver demanded $250 cash immediately or threatened to withhold items and add storage fees – pure extortion, against FMCSA delivery rules (100% of binding estimate max).
Unloading was a nightmare: Driver knocked boxes from 20+ ft with a stick, causing crashes; dropped furniture repeatedly (e.g., chairs off dolly 3x); damages included shattered monitors, broken mini fridge/lamp, crushed/water-damaged boxes – clearly from no proper packing as promised. He got aggressive when my daughter recorded (legal in TX), confronted her, threatened to abandon heavy items by the highway, screamed profanities ("f*** you" repeatedly, "F*** Texas"), and falsely accused racism/gun threats (none happened). We called the Sheriff's Department – deputies intervened to make him finish and leave, but items were left roadside.
No signed delivery forms – I have unsigned copies from carrier rep Anna, but never saw/signed them post-delivery.
Contacted Shawn McNulty, Brightside, and carrier (Anna) via email/phone about overcharges/damages – total ghosting, no responses.
This is classic bait-and-switch: Lowball estimate with false promises like free packing, load first, extort more, damage goods, ignore claims. Matches their BBB pattern (154 complaints/3 yrs, not accredited). Disputed charges with my bank, but fighting it months later.

I am filing this complaint to warn other consumers about the egregious and allegedly unlawful practices of Brightside Moving Group, LLC (Broker) and Express Movers Services Inc. (Carrier) during my interstate move from Woodbridge, VA to Charlotte, NC.
The nightmare began with the broker. After providing a detailed inventory, my initial binding estimate of approximately $6,000 on June 23, 2025, was drastically and inexplicably increased to over $16,000 on June 25, 2025, with no new information on my part. Due to severe time constraints, I was essentially forced under duress to accept this inflated, revised binding estimate, paying a total deposit of over $6,158.34.
The unprofessional carrier service and breach of contract followed. Express Movers Services Inc. was nearly 3 hours late for the scheduled pick-up on June 28, 2025, and attempted to increase the cost again on-site. This led to a heated, recorded call with both companies, where a critical agreement was reached: the remaining $10,200 balance would be split into two payments (50% on arrival, 50% after delivery/setup). However, the coercion escalated at delivery on June 29, 2025. The carrier was 3.5 hours late for the agreed-upon delivery. Immediately upon arrival, the company manager unilaterally abrogated the 50/50 agreement and demanded FULL PAYMENT IN CASH/MONEY ORDER within 20 minutes. The manager explicitly threatened to take my property to a local storage facility if full payment was not immediately received. As a senior citizen in my 70s, I felt under extreme duress and feared losing all my possessions. My wife and I were forced to drive to multiple stores under immense pressure to obtain money orders to pay the balance in full, despite the prior agreement and prior verbal assurances that Zelle/Venmo would be accepted.
In summary, this constitutes a serious Breach of Contract due to the violation of the recorded 50/50 payment agreement. It also involves Coercion/Unethical Practices through the use of explicit threats and a tight deadline to compel immediate, full payment, which is an unacceptable and potentially illegal business practice. Furthermore, there was Misrepresentation as Brightside Moving Group provided inconsistent information on accepted payment methods (Zelle/Venmo) that the carrier refused to honor, and the company showed a blatant Failure to Adhere to Agreed-Upon Timelines with significant, unannounced delays for both pick-up and delivery.
I strongly urge anyone considering these companies to look elsewhere. The combination of deceptive pricing from the broker and the coercive, threatening tactics from the carrier resulted in a highly stressful and unacceptable experience.

I told them that the earliest date to deliver was 10/31 but they called on 10/29 advising that they would be arriving 10/30. So I had to scramble and get a friend to help be there. The driver showed up...ALONE!!! The helpers wouldn't be there till the next day!!! SO my friend helped unload the truck!!! AND, the delivery driver wanted us to buy all of the blankets that the furniture was wrapped in!

Well, where to begin. I should have known because it sounded too good to be true. On the call the salesman said, “white glove treatment. We do everything.” So we paid the down payment money. Than I got this gut feeling to look online. Believe the reviews. I own my own business and I am fairly empathetic with people and businesses because I get it.
It’s tough. However, we didn’t hear from them for 3 weeks. We called and asked, “ hey are we still a go for X date?” They gave us the wrong date. We corrected it. So than we asked, hey so when will they start boxing everything? Oh we don’t do that. That’s the white glove treatment and you didn’t pay for that so you’ll need to box and wrap everything yourself. Wait what??? Both my wife and I were there on the call when they said white glove. So I asked them to pull the call and send me the recording. They said they couldn’t. I used to run a call center that’s false. I told him it’s false and listed the under data protection laws. He than said it’s company policy but that they’ll review it. They called me back 10 min later (our call was almost an hr log call when we signed up). They said sorry our salesman didn’t say white glove but you can pay an additional (can’t remember exact number but it was THOUSANDS more). I said no and we scrambled to get boxes and box our entire house 2 days before we were supposed to move.
DATE OF MOVE: well would you look at that, they showed up with a small moving truck. Smaller than what we ordered. The gentleman said I have to pay $12,000 more for them to bring another truck. What a shake down. We were supposed to move. I paid over $5k down. They pretty much had the advantage and they knew it. I called bright side again. They said I didn’t order the truck that I ordered and they’ll keep my deposit if I want to go elsewhere. They kept pushing me and up charging me. The movers said, bright side is a broker now the movers. The salesman’s always over promise and then when they show up they pretty much just shake you down for more money. So I drove my truck out to where we’re moving. I get there and guess what??? They call and say hey we can’t deliver to your address you need to come pick up your stuff or I need to charge another few thousand dollars. I can keep going on and on. But suffice it to say. DO NOT USE THEM. Get a pod. Heck, sale all your stuff before using them. Never again. I’ll tell anyone and everyone, DO NOT USE BRIGHTSIDE FOR MOVING

it all started out with brightside moving group with daniel in sales. painted such a picture of service that i fell for it. they did show up prertty much when they said. at time of pickup they had to have more money from what i was quoted. i paid due too fact that my closing on house was in 5 days and i didn"t have time too get anyone else, and i had already givin them almost one thousand dollars. at that time i was told it would be 5 to 14 days until delivery. after about 10 days i started calling their customer service to get an update on delivery time. every time i called customer service i was told they woould call me back [ to date still waiting for return call] `12 to 20 days calling or texting or seneding e-mails. i received call from a maya which she told me it would be 4 to 7 days and i woould have my furniture. 10 days later i received call from truck driver stating he had my furniture and needed to have 1600 more dollars cash in order to get my furniture. what the hell was i to do i had already paid out over 5 thousand . i paid ramson money to the crooks top get my furniture. i beg anyone reading this too stay away from BIGHTSIDE MOVING GROUP in Boca raton florida. that job was m2154119

Worst moving Expertience Ever!
I had my mom needing to move her 2 bed, 2 bath stuff from Florida to Georgia, i spoke to Nick who quoted me $2000 for the move if i signed up same day, i expressed that i was still looking at movers. The following day i called back and they quoted me $2850 so i said ok. Biggest mistake i should have run when they told me in order to get that price i had to lock it in by paying half upfront.
they wanted ACH but i chose credit card for an extra $45....thought i was protecting myself.
So they ran down a generic list of items to be moved and i just answered yes and was told i needed a specific list, i said sure because i was just busy with work.
My mom was selling her place so it was a bit hard to nail down the actual day due to having to fix stuff after inspection, moving stuff to storage for showings etc.
Two days before the move i and my sister call to give the completed list and they told me $9000 to move the stuff, i almost passed out. i told them there was no way i could pay that much to move the stuff so i requested my $1322 deposit back and was laughted at.
We had to be out in 2 days or risk the sale not going through so i had to scramble at the last moment to hire a 16Ft POD which did not hold everything so also had to rent a 15ft Uhaul for the rest and drive it to Georgia and fly back yet still they kept my $1322 .
Worst Company I Have ever dealt with.

If I could give this shit company zero stars I would. First of all the are overpriced by adding hidden fees that was not in the original price. Secondly, my pick-up date kept getting changed to the point that they were going to pick up my items late at night. Please stay away from this company. Did I mention that they don't refund you your money if they do it's only a very small amount. This is a SCAM.

This company hired a moving company to take me from Virginia to North Carolina. It was a one-day move. I received two so-called written "binding estimates" from Brightside and neither was binding. I paid them about $2500 for an initial estimate of $3300. The cost was increase $3300 to $5100 after I provided a final larger inventory, 50% increase. The movers (Express Mover Services Inc, based on New Jersey) showed up on the right day but later than I was told by Brightside (7-9am vs arrival at 930am). The foreman did a walk-through phone video and sent it to Express, not Brightside. I then received a call from someone in New Jersey who managed the crew who told me the new price was $8600. This was based solely on the video. There was no detailed breakdown of the new costs until the end of the loading when I was presented with some documents with new prices but no details. I complained bitterly but was helpless given the circumstances and had to pay $6000 in CASH as well for same day delivery. Of course, Brightside told me about NONE of this in advance. There was an increase in volume of maybe 20% but the remote foreman estimated 25%. Even accepting that, the total price increased 70% - no possible way to justify that, including $1100 more just for packing materials(tape and boxes), $675 for undefined "bulky items" , and a junk fee of another $275. All in all, more than $3000 above Brightside's "binding estimate". I called Brightside them multiple times but got no help, only promises to look into it. This is a racket and they insulate themselves from any liability with fine print in the contract that allows them to just say - talk to the movers.
Very poor customer service. They use unscrupulous movers and tout themselves as great service providers that will take care of all your needs. I will actively denounce this company for its disregard of the customer's complaints and unwillingness to step in to resolve anything.
They doubled the price in cash on moving day, delayed delivery, and damaged our furniture.

We booked Brightside Moving Group for a cross-state move. Their rep, Brendan Schickel, gave us a binding estimate of $2,556.32 for 900 cubic feet and we paid a $705 deposit. On moving day (Sept 26, 2025), the movers showed up late and suddenly claimed we had “way more” than quoted—even though we had fewer boxes than listed and the same exact furniture. Brightside’s dispatcher, Anthony, refused to load only the 900 cubic feet we paid for unless we gave them $3,148.96 more in cash on the spot. They said if we didn’t pay, they’d leave and we’d lose our deposit.
We were forced to pay under duress. Then Brightside delayed our delivery twice (to Sept 28) and even though they promised 9–11 a.m. delivery, the truck didn’t show until 4 p.m. To top it off, the movers taped our painted bookshelves together, and the tape ripped off the paint when we unpacked.
This was a complete bait-and-switch. Brightside uses fake “binding” quotes to hook customers, then doubles the price in cash once you’re trapped. Read the BBB complaints—this is not a one-time mistake. Do not trust this company with your money or your belongings.
No wonder they want you to pay the movers in cash, that’s how scammers usually do it.

STOP, don't , just save yourself the many problems and issues, we had significant problems including changes to pricing, hidden charges when packing and failure to complete the job, poor communication, and lost or damaged items. When I contacted them over the damages and loss they send me to a 3rd party insurance company which never responded or resolved the issues.
