Our Experience of Wedding DJ Scotland's Premium Service
We booked Wedding DJ Scotland's premium all-day DJ and MC package for our wedding paying £1,295 for coverage from guest arrival at 1.30pm through to midnight.
Our wedding itself was wonderful and our guests had a fantastic time, but unfortunately the DJ and hosting service did not meet the expectations we had formed through the package we booked and the extensive planning beforehand.
We spent several hours discussing the day in advance, completed the detailed planning information requested and supplied playlists which clearly reflected the music and atmosphere we wanted. There were also specific pieces of music agreed for key moments throughout the ceremony and reception.
Despite that preparation, there were a number of issues on the day.
The music being played as guests arrived was noticeably different from the style we had discussed and supplied. Later, during the drinks reception, I had to approach Nick myself and ask for our music to be played because what we were hearing simply didn't reflect the atmosphere we had planned. During the evening, one of our guests independently approached him for the same reason.
The most upsetting mistake happened immediately before our ceremony entrance. The wrong track was played and stopped with an audible "Oops, sorry, wrong music" before the correct entrance music began. Fortunately the moment is captured on our wedding footage, although obviously it isn't how we had envisaged beginning our ceremony.
The MC element was also considerably less present than we had expected from an all-day hosted package. The venue coordinator was often the person directing guests and moving the day forward, and our registrar initially took the lead in encouraging everyone during a planned pre-ceremony sing-along. After the ceremony, Christophe and I also found ourselves helping guide guests back towards the Orangery.
There were further attention-to-detail issues. Despite us having specifically discussed that we had no formal bridal party, there were references to bridesmaids and best men during the day. My son's name was also forgotten during the formalities, something Nick has since acknowledged and apologised for.
A specifically requested Gay Gordons was also missed altogether.
It is important to say that not everything went badly. The Five Minutes of Madness worked well, a number of the formal introductions were handled correctly, the evening developed well. Nick also remained until the agreed finish and the final song was played as planned.
Our disappointment is therefore not based on one isolated mistake, nor are we suggesting that our wedding was spoiled. It wasn't.
Our issue is that we deliberately chose and paid a premium price for an experienced all-day DJ and MC, because we wanted someone to take responsibility for the music, announcements, guest communication and hosted transitions throughout the day. In our experience, that element of the service did not consistently match what we believed we had booked.
We raised our concerns privately with Nick before leaving any public feedback. He engaged extensively with us, acknowledged and apologised for several of the shortcomings, although ultimately we disagreed about the overall level of service delivered and were unable to reach a resolution that we felt reflected our experience.
For couples considering Wedding DJ Scotland, our advice would simply be to be extremely explicit about exactly how much active MC involvement you expect, how closely you want your musical brief followed and which moments are non-negotiable.
Based on the premium all-day service we purchased and our experience of its delivery, we unfortunately could not give the recommendation we had hoped we would be able to give.
