Scam. You get a response to a Gumtree advert asking you to buy a "VA" report of your cars MOT/Tax status which is free online anyway. Reassuring AI conversation makes you think you've nothing to lose & they will refund you. So you spend £20 for a nonsense report that you don't need then the buyer disappears.
Gumtree should warn about the latest scams but don't give a trying tuck.

Had a car ad on gumtree. Got a text from a buyer who insisted i get the VA check and he was ready to come over and buy the car.

It felt suspicious and then i did some research and found out about this type of scam.

Pity I had to leave one star as zero would have been more appropriate. Texted pretending to be interested in Gumtree advert insisting he was a serious buyer but I had to do a VA report first. Wouldn’t accept a HPI report already available. A complete scam, don’t go anywhere near them unless you like throwing money away.

Selling a car on Gumtree. Contacted by ‘buyer’ using text. Wanted a full car report before viewing. Persisted refusing all our assurances and existing report saying we had to go to this site to purchase a report. Realised it was a scam and did not buy.

Seriously avoid, big time scam there is no such company as vehicle insurance, disgusting nasty people. Avoid ignore guy before they take your money😖😣😖

Advertised my motorcycle privately and had someone text me saying they were interested but wanted a full history report from this company first. The next day, I had a call from this person begging me to get a report. I refused as I had my suspicions and told them to get the report themselves if they wanted one. Turns out it was this company all along, using such tactics to get people to use their service. Disgusting and dishonest tactics to fool people into using them. Avoid.
