We have booked with this company a few times and everything has been pretty good, however, this time we left a couple of items in the rental property. I have tried to contact them using their own contact form, no reply.....twice. Seriously? It's their own contact form. Really NOT good service

We booked a week in Durness with Unique Cottages.
I would never normally write a review without speaking to the agent or owner first. I messaged the Unique Cottages when we came home about the old furniture, musty smell downstairs in the living rooms and the dirty state of the cottage. There was thick layer of dust in the living room, the shower was disgusting and clogged. The shower doors were broken, you had to have a shower with the doors open. There were cobwebs. There was an old outside chair used in the bedroom. There was even bird shit on the chair in the bedroom. The oven was dirty and the drainage board by the sink was filthy. The radiator in the bathroom had dirt down it and they had the cheek to put up a notice saying 'do not dry clothes on the radiator'. The glass was blown in the upstairs bedroom. You couldn't use the mirror in the bedroom cause it was so old and blurred.
They said they had a professional cleaner and deny any of this. I took photos and videos. They just made the excuse that we should have contacted them immediately. This isn't Changing Rooms in the 90s. The whole place needs a makeover.
Its such a shame because the cottage could be really special and is in a great location. Just a side note, ditch all the weird pictures of birds and all the charity shop stuff. Be better.

After getting tickets to the Open Golf at St Andrews, I found Pitcorthie Cottage in Fife on this website and I selected the 'Book Now' option and paid a deposit of £333 for 4 nights.
The deposit was taken immediately.
I received a Reservation Confirmation telling me that my Booking Confirmation would arrive within 24-48 hours.
I chased this by phone and email. By phone I was told that there was no issue. I then got an email telling me that the owner was considering increasing the rent from what had been advertised as my booking was during the Open.
Finally, a week later, I was told that my booking had been cancelled. Presumably this was so they can re-advertise it at a significantly higher rent.
The owner had 18 months to realise that the Open was happening on those dates and increase the rent accordingly. And by taking a full week to tell me that the booking was cancelled, I missed out on the chance to book other affordable accommodation.
I tried to leave a review on Feefo (the reviews that appear on the Unique Cottages website) and was told that the company had selected to only allow reviews from people who had stayed in the Cottages and didn't allow reviews of the booking process.

Stayed at Appletree cottage Newton Stewart. It was clean and warm so no issues with the cottage itself, however the entrance to the property through the metal gates is extremely narrow and judging by the number of scrapes on the wall a number of vehicles have fallen victim. If you are booking this property take a small vehicle to negotiate the narrow entrance.

We stayed at Rock Cottage in Glenmoidart. The house is wonderful, well maintained and is located in a very peaceful place where the wildlife is fantastic. Every day (daylight and night time) we had the pleasure of Pine Martens. Badgers appeared from around 9pm and Red Squirrels were in and out all day long. There was a wide species of birds which were fascinating to watch, my favourite for character were the Coal Tits. Tiny Siskins show their feisty personalities. The cottage overlooks the River Moidart only a short distance away. A wooden Bridge takes you across the river and loch. A tip...take care if you drive down the drive to the cottage, reversing back up the gravel wasn't easy at all, we nearly had to use 4WD to get out so left the car at the parking space at the top after that.
Buzzards were regular here. A short drive around the area and you will almost certainly come across Red Deer and Golden Eagle, Sea Eagles are also visible, take a visit to Garbh Eilean for the best views of these 'flying barn doors'. There are many seals here too. Take the track to Glenmoidart which takes you up to a loch and further up into the mountains. The views are spectacular from here. A must is to make sure you take plenty of peanuts, peanut butter and sunflower hearts, they will go in no time, the Pine Martens have discovered how to get peanuts from the Red Squirrel peanut box. The village of Acharacle is a good place for groceries, the shop is well stocked (and sells peanuts), here you can take the Loch Sheil cruise, this road also carries on to the turning for Tioram Castle, just a short de-tour, and the turn off for the Ardnamurchan Lighthouse which is worth the visit if only for the views, we didn't do the lighthouse tour. And we missed the Orca pod by an hour or so.
On our way home we followed the A830 to Mallaig which was well worth the detour, a lovely port, great fish n chips even if they are expensive. If you have the time and a spare day or two you can take the Calmac ferry to Armadale in the South of Skye, a lovely place to explore.
All in all, Rock Cottage has it all, the location, peace and quiet and isn't too far from other main tourist attractions. I would visit every year if I could.

We booked the Barley house near Greenlaw recently Arriving late on the Thursday night we did not use any of the facilities. The following morning discovered a filthy cooker and Fridge that were not fit to use as they could have been a very health and safety issue. Had we not had not to be there would not have stayed.The house was full of cobwebs and bugs and the garden spaces were full of weeds. They left a welcome tray with biscuits that had gone out of date 10 months ago. They offered to send someone round to do remedial cleaning which we refused as if this is the way they
Leave a property for your visit no way was a normal cleaner going to fix this. Professional cleaning only. Also they were intruding in our privacy. This was a stranger we did not want about our personal possessions. Had they offered an Agent from there company we would have allowed. They have given us a very poor refund of £150 from a £823 three night stay. Please do not ever book this property if you are looking for a 5 star advertised property as I would not give it 1. Very disappointed with the owner of this property and the company advertising it as it is definitely not what as advertised on the website. I feel the way this has been handled very disappointing especially when you can now book for 7 days for £695. Not that I would want to

Holiday lets in Scotland only. My family have booked with Unique Cottages many times and everything has always gone smoothly from start to finish. Even in covid time, satisfactory adaptations to the process were made and communication extremely good. A reliable and safe business.

Second time booking with Unique cottages and second time of not being disappointed. Loch Head cottage was just lovely and fulfilled ours and our dogs needs. Kintyre Peninsula certainly didn't disappoint either, beautiful spot. Great customer service from this company who have now become our go to for booking trips away with the dogs.

A further year as a client of Unique Cottage Holidays and it has been a very positive experience once again.
I have had an excellent occupation rate for my short let cottages as a result of being on the UCH platform. The website is easy for guests and owners alike to navigate, the guests have praise for the booking team and the ease of booking. I have found the advice on rental pricing to be excellent - perfectly pitched for the guests who book to stay at the cottages. Crucially, if any difficulties occur at any stage in the booking process or once the guests are staying in the cottages, the Unique team are always on hand to advise and support the owners as well as the guests. From the beginning of our working relationship, UCH have acted as a fully professional team and combined with their friendly and attentive approach, I am always conscious of my business being held in competent hands by the team who work at Unique Cottage Holidays.

Unfortunately we had to cancel our holiday. Unique Cottages were very efficient and refunded the cost of the holiday as soon as I sent in the documentation and their communication was very good. I am hoping to book again next year with them they have lovely selection of cottages.

Lovely location, great walks, comfortable cottage.
Although Unique did mention in the small print that no bedding and towels were supplied they may need to put some emphasis on it as we after many years of holidaying have never had to bring ours. Fortunately we had freshly laundered furniture throws for the first night and went to Fort William the next day to purchase bedding and towels.
Unique also take a housekeeping deposit and there are a long list of dos and don’ts to ensure that deposit is returned. We always leave a cottage clean and tidy and had no worries here but when you rely on the previous occupant to do the house keeping standards are not always adhered to. Our only issues were that some of the cooking utensils needed washing and there is a distinctive fusty smell in the bedroom, something that has been mentioned in a previous review on here.
More emphasis needs to be placed on the discoloured water. Also too many requests for further donations for logs or wi fi. We didn’t use our log allowance but we didn’t get refunded for it. What I am saying is that if the customer is paying a high end price don’t nitpick. We expected the mighty midge but didn’t expect such a virulent population of ticks as well so be prepared if you are a dog owner. Apart from that it was good.

Thanks to Unique for replying to the two issues which I blamed myself for not noticing. Like I say it’s pretty rare to have to bring bedding and linen. I am also glad that they have taken on board my suggestions on independent housekeeping rather than relying too heavily on the previous occupants cleanliness.

Auchtertyre House
Wow! What a beautiful property,10 of us stayed in March 2025 for 2 weeks . This Property has everything you could want or need, great location, stunning views, privacy, ample parking and plenty room for split families or two groups as house has lots of different areas to it. Also a downstairs bedroom which was fantastic as on of our party we’re unable to do stairs. Nearly all with en suites.
We had the most amazing time exploring around the house with waterfalls and a stream running down the side of the property which my grown children swan in 🥶. Located in a great area with beautiful views from the extensive garden with lovely walks on your doorstep. Easy access by car to Fort William through the stunning Glencoe and also Oban.
Would absolutely recommend this Property.

First discovered Unique Cottages back in December 2023 when I booked my first holiday cottage with them. I had such an amazing service that it’s the only website I now use for future holidays in Scotland. Not only do the holiday lets tick all the boxes for what I look for in my holiday, I also find the customer service excellent- prompt and incredibly helpful if I have any questions. I’m very fortunate to have found this company and highly recommend them to anyone looking for dog friendly accommodation in Scotland.

Great selection of quality holiday cottages.

Absolutely wonderful late booked self catering holiday in North Western Scotland. Unique Cottages has a superb website giving excellent accurate information about property, environment and additional helpful information. The pricing structure is transparent and availability for chosen dates. easily obvious.
Booking was smooth, confirmation rapidly sent out and safety deposit quickly returned after the holiday.

This company is efficient and friendly. We have stayed in several of their properties, all were good quality.

We enjoyed a great week in the Dunedin Cottage at Lower Largo. It was an ideal location right down by the harbour for walking the Fife Coastal Path, loads of golf courses and other attractions near by, including the options of a short ride to St Andrews or a train ride to Edinburgh from Leven. The cottage was cosy, comfortable and well stocked with all the necessary amenities. Hope to return next year.
