I went to see the show on 8th June 6 pm. I was in top secret comedy club last week and found it really good hence a repeated visit. I knew it is not going to be as good as a week ago, but it was the worst ever. The Canadian comedian whose name i didn't even bother to remember was not one bit hillarious. His jokes were childlike and he had a strange accent and he was speaking very fast. He was literally dreadful. The Pakistanian comedian was better but really.. who wants to hear political jokes on a night out when the whole UK situation lately is a big joke anyway.
Advise to the club: reveal your act names beforehand
Felt a bit racist / hate speechy against Jewish people I thought last night , hopefully I’m wrong , also all these so called channel four comedians I didn’t recognise at all . Anyway great for £1 if not £20 .
Ticket was a good price BUT they shame you with it. In the beginning they say they put the price that low so its accessible for everyone but then they change their tune and say at the end they'd basically like more money to pay the acts. They barricaded the doors so we couldn't leave until the guy with the bucket and card machines were up there and if you didn't give enough ie what they wanted...you're basically shamed. Sooo not exactly accessible for everyone is it. Poor end to what was a good show
Went there yesterday with friends and didn’t initially get the vibe standing at the back but we got seated near the front and that changed everything. Never laughed so much watching the Greek comedian the bajan comedian and Andrew mensah. Very funny and would definitely go back.
The acts on 9 Nov 2023 were enjoyable, as were the MC's interactions with different audience members.
The seats are uncomfortable for several reasons. You don't have a lot of room on either side, so you constantly brush shoulders with people. The person (drunk male) behind me kept breathing down my neck and kicking me through the small hole in my chair. As an autistic person, these physical sensory experiences can be difficult to manage, in addition to the loud volume of the crowd. I took to wearing noise-cancelling earphones to manage the volume of the crowd, but I didn't feel comfortable asking the man behind me to stop kicking me and breathing down my neck.
The floor around us was completely wet and a slipping hazard, probably due to alcohol spillage. Staff walking around here should have noticed and managed the wet floor because that's their job.
At the end of the show, guests were offered a free shot by the MC, but only if they left a positive review, which is why there are so many low-detail or empty 5-star reviews for this place on a popular map/navigation website. I was not impressed with the blatant bribery for positive reviews because a genuinely good venue/show should be able to get positive reviews without bribing people.
Besides my disappointment with the bribery for positive reviews, The Top Secret Comedy Club could also be in breach of the Consumer Protection from Unfair Trading Regulations 2008 ("CPUTR"), which prohibit businesses from engaging in any practice that is misleading or could deceive consumers.
The CPUTR define a misleading action as one that "causes or is likely to cause the average consumer to make a transactional decision that [they] would not have made otherwise if [they] had been correctly informed." A transactional decision is defined as any decision to purchase or not to purchase goods or services.
By offering customers incentives to leave positive reviews, businesses mislead consumers into believing that the reviews are genuine and unbiased. This can prevent other consumers from making informed decisions about whether or not to purchase goods or services.
Some people may object to how serious or "negative" this review is, but I realise that not everyone shares the same standards and principles as me.
I would like to return to this venue and experience another good show with more comfort and less bribery.
