The Three Horseshoes in Hinxworth is an absolute delight! We recently had the roast dinner here, and it was truly outstanding. Served piping hot – exactly as it should be – every element was incredibly tasty. This charming pub offers fantastic food and is a real hidden gem. What's more, it's exceptional value for money. Do yourself a favour and book a table; you won't be disappointed!

Daughter took my wife and me for Mothers Day dinner. It's a lovely old pub in Asthall Burford. Worst meal we've ever had. Food is poor quality, ordered Prawn Cocktail to start and Kelmscott Pork. Prawn cocktail was dire 3 tiny lettuce leaves each with about a large teaspoon of dry tasteless prawns, no sauce and 3 small bits of dry bread, no butter. Pork was even worse, 2 tiny slivers of Pork about the size of my middle finger, tablespoonful of Colcannon mash and a little bit barely cooked Kale, the Pork bits were nearly all fat with a tiny sliver of meat in each piece, obviously Belly Pork when I was expecting sliced Pork from a joint. Service and waitress were good. I've enjoyed a McDonalds burger more than this food. Suggest the "chef" attends a cookery class

We approached this pub last July to ask if they could accommodate a small-ish low-key wedding reception (covid restrictions allowing) in September this year. The landlord enthusiastically agreed and quoted us a price to exclusively hire the pub and beer garden for our wedding evening. He pencilled us into the pub’s diary, and over the next ten months, whilst he was really reassuring and genial in person, he remained reluctant to give us anything formally in writing.

After Easter, as the Covid roadmap announcement made it clear it would be ok for our wedding to go ahead, we tried to politely press him for the itemised list of costs he had promised us months ago. After much stalling and evasion, he finally replied instead with a new, dramatically higher quote which no longer included exclusive use of the pub or garden (this, he said, would now cost “significantly more”). And it was still lacking in basic details - for example, he quoted us a price for food per head, without telling us what the food actually was! When we asked him to clarify such details (surely, this is a reasonable request!), he shot back huffily, implying that our questions were high maintenance. Then, finally and abruptly, he told us to find another venue less than three months before our wedding.

The way he has conducted himself has been baffling. We were trusting and took him at his word, and he let us down. At best, he’s disorganised and ill-equipped to handle a simple private function despite his assurances and promises to the contrary (the phrase “can’t organise a p-ss up in a brewery" springs to mind), and at worst, he’s untrustworthy and potentially misled us with a pricing quote he never intended to honour. We were surprised and disappointed at the bad faith with which he has acted in both changing the price dramatically and the cancellation with little notice. Basically, the Three Horseshoes is a nice enough place to pop into if you’re in the area, but I wouldn’t entrust the landlord to provide anything more sophisticated than pulling a pint!
