An Unforgettable, Heartwarming Journey with The Mighty Roar – 10/10!
If you are on the fence about booking a volunteer trip with The Mighty Roar, just do it. My childcare placement was hands down one of the most rewarding, soul-filling experiences of my life, and the memories will stay with me forever.
From the moment I arrived, everything was seamless. The accommodation was absolutely amazing, comfortable, welcoming, and such a great base to recharge after busy days. What truly makes this program shine, though, is the incredible local team. A massive shoutout to Thomas, German, Tim, Theo, Emmanuel, Naymar, Felix, Ali, and Junior! You all made us feel so safe, looked after, and genuinely like family from day one. Your warmth, energy, and constant good humor set the tone for the entire trip.
The childcare volunteering itself was deeply fulfilling. Working directly with the children, assisting the staff, playing games, and seeing those bright, beaming smiles every day puts everything into perspective. It is hard work, but knowing you are offering an extra pair of hands and showing up for the community is a feeling like no other.
Beyond the project, the activities and social life were unmatched. We got a taste of everything: soaking in the gorgeous natural hot springs, embracing the refreshing rainfall that made the landscape so vibrant, and enjoying evening socials where our volunteer group bonded and laughed until our stomachs hurt.
To top it all off, the safari was a complete highlight and Tim was an outstanding safari tour guide! His knowledge, sharp eyes for wildlife, and enthusiasm made spotting the animals an absolute adventure.
Thank you to the whole Mighty Roar team and every single staff member who made this journey so magical. I arrived as an individual volunteer, but left with lifelong friends and an experience I will cherish forever. Couldn't recommend it highly enough!

Argostoli volunteering
I did this experience to get out of my comfort zone and i'm so glad i did. I went during hatching season and being up close to turtles is definitely unforgettable. Everyone there including the staff are so nice also and the location is nearby to shops and nightlife. One of the best parts is that I have made lifelong friends. I would definitely come here again and would recommend it to anyone interested.

It was the best experience of my life

Good service saves stress and money
Had an amazing time doing the Costa Rica animal sanctuary volunteering, and the weekend trip at the start, however there was a lack of communication about pick up times at the start of the trip, but other than that it was a well organised trip with most food included and basic accommodation.

My 3 weeks in Ghana…
My 3 weeks in Ghana have been fantastic! From the moment I arrived in Accra to the bittersweet goodbye before I left, Dinah and her team made me feel so welcome and at home. The lengths they went to in order to make sure we all got the most out of this experience and made the best memories was remarkable. Our weekly dance classes with Rubben and the boys were without a doubt one of the highlights of my trip alongside the cooking classes we took part in where we learnt how to make traditional Ghanaian dishes. Being able to meet so many new people, whether that be other volunteers or some of the locals, made my trip such an unforgettable experience. It’s safe to say that the memories I made with all the children and the team here will stay with me forever and I am so grateful that I have had the chance to meet everyone. The camera roll is full and ready to be made into a photo album when I get home that I will cherish forever.

Medical elective Tanzania
I was on the Medical elective in Tanzania doing midwifery. We only went for 2 weeks but these are 2 weeks of my life i will never forget! The staff in the TMR house are so lovely and accommodating, they literally cannot do enough for you! The programme itself is easy to book and definitely an experience you won’t forget!!

Serious safeguarding issues – Ghana
Our 21-year-old daughter travelled to Ghana with The Mighty Roar in summer 2026, intending to volunteer for six weeks. She returned home early following experiences which left us with serious concerns about safeguarding, professional boundaries and the oversight of volunteers within the Ghana programme.
We raised our concerns formally and in detail with The Mighty Roar. We were extremely disappointed with their response and did not feel that a number of the specific issues we raised had been adequately addressed.
We have since become aware of concerns raised by other families about their experiences with the Ghana programme, which has made us question whether our daughter's experience should be viewed in isolation.
Given the seriousness of the issues raised, I have been in contact with the British Embassy in Accra and intend to raise the matter with my local MP.
I would encourage anyone considering the Ghana programme to ask careful questions about safeguarding, local staff oversight, professional boundaries and how concerns are investigated.

Thank you for taking the time to share your concerns following your daughter’s time in Ghana. We are sorry that her experience led her to leave the programme early and that, following her departure, you and your family were dissatisfied with aspects of her experience.
We do, however, feel it is important to provide some context for anyone reading this review, particularly given the seriousness of the allegations being made.
We have discussed these matters extensively with you and your daughter by email, over a considerable period of time, in an effort to understand the concerns raised, investigate them properly and resolve the matter. We have also carried out a detailed internal investigation, speaking with the local team, members of the wider community and the other volunteers who were present during the relevant period.
That investigation did not substantiate the safeguarding concerns described in this review.
It is also important to distinguish between concerns that someone personally experienced and allegations based on information they were subsequently told by other people. A significant proportion of the safeguarding allegations raised with us were based on conversations and information relayed by other volunteers, rather than events witnessed by your daughter herself. In several instances, the information provided was either inconsistent with the accounts of other people present or did not accord with the information available to us.
We spoke with the other volunteers who were present during this period, and the accounts we received did not support the picture presented in this review. We cannot present these allegations as established facts when our investigation did not substantiate them.
Throughout your daughter’s time in Ghana, our local team made considerable efforts to support her, including assisting her when her luggage was lost and doing what they could to help her settle into the programme. We have found no evidence that she was denied appropriate support or that the local team acted in the manner subsequently alleged.
It is also relevant that many of the concerns described in detail after your daughter had left the programme were not raised with the local team in the same form while she was there. This meant that we had to investigate a number of allegations retrospectively, including allegations based on conversations between volunteers and events which your daughter had not personally witnessed. We nevertheless took them seriously and made extensive enquiries rather than simply dismissing them.
We recognise that your daughter has a different recollection of events. However, taking someone's account seriously does not mean automatically accepting every allegation as fact. Our responsibility was to examine the information available to us objectively, consider different accounts and reach a conclusion based on the evidence. That is what we did.
Our expectations regarding safeguarding and professional boundaries are clear. Members of our local teams are expected to maintain appropriate professional boundaries, and our Code of Conduct sets expectations for volunteers regarding relationships with members of the local community. These standards continue to be reinforced across our programmes.
We have explained our findings in detail through our email correspondence. We appreciate that you remain unhappy with the outcome, but after conducting an in-depth investigation and considering the accounts of those involved, we do not accept that the Ghana programme operated in the manner suggested by this review.

I was volunteering for 2 weeks in Kenya, one week in a childcare programme and one week in a hospital. It was such an incredible, eye opening experience.I went with my friend and we meet so many other amazing volunteers from all over the world. The organisation make it very easy to meet people and I would definitely recommend solo travelling as there were many solo travellers. Everyone we met was so friendly and welcoming and we got to witness so many things in the hospitals we would never get the chance to see at home. It was an amazing experience

I volunteered in childcare/teaching in…
I volunteered in childcare/teaching in Bangkok for 2 weeks. It was a nice experience helping teach English in nurseries and primary schools in Bangkok. The hotel was also nice since they had air conditioning and allowed us to access the cafe for eating and socialising with others. The local team was friendly and welcoming to me as well as all the other volunteers I met. It was nice that they gave us freedom to choose which schools to go to and I also had a lot of free time to explore Bangkok. I also enjoyed the overnight trip to a rural area in a province near Bangkok that was organised by the local team.
However, some parts of it was a bit disorganised. I didn’t really know what my volunteering role involved and whether I need to prepare for it. I was thrown into unfamiliar situations and had to learn what to do by observing and improvising. It would be better if there was a clear plan and schedule to follow so all the volunteers knew what they had to do each day. I feel like we also need to be taught how to teach the children English as sometimes we had to think of activities on the spot and felt unprepared. It would also be nicer if all the volunteers could’ve went to the schools / nurseries together as it was intimidating to go on my own.

It’s also great to hear that you appreciated having the freedom to choose your placements and plenty of time to explore Bangkok.
We’re sorry to hear that you sometimes felt unsure about what to expect from your volunteering role and would have valued more guidance and structure. We took your comments seriously and discussed them with our team in Bangkok. As part of this, we’re strengthening the guidance provided to volunteers at the nursery, including clear step-by-step information on arrival, and improving the information shared before volunteers travel so they have a clearer understanding of their role and how to prepare.
We also understand your comments about travelling to placements independently. Volunteer numbers can vary during the year, which meant there were occasions when volunteers attended placements individually during your stay. We acknowledge that this can feel unfamiliar, particularly when settling into a new environment.
We’ve really appreciated being able to discuss your feedback with you directly, and we were especially pleased to hear in our follow-up that, despite the areas you highlighted, you really enjoyed your trip and felt that you learnt a lot through the experience. We hope your time in Bangkok continues to be a happy and memorable part of your travels.
