We had a absolutely lovely experience today. Food was beautiful we both went for the lamb roast which we both said was the best roast we have ever had. And to add the staff were all lovely and chatty. They all loved my 2 dogs and made them feel very welcome even giving them treats. Would definitely recommend 👌
Disappointed!
Disappointed! Extremely pricey drinks. Poor service in restaurant. Food under average. Purely a tourist attraction!
We had a fantastic time at Clarkson’s…
We had a fantastic time at Clarkson’s pub—it was a real treat for our 9-year-old son, who has loved following the programme week by week. Seeing it all come to life made the visit extra special for him, and the atmosphere didn’t disappoint.
The setting, food, and overall experience were great, and it’s clear a lot of thought has gone into making it an enjoyable place for families and fans alike.
Our only disappointment was that it’s a cashless site. Given the strong “back British” message, it felt a bit at odds that British currency isn’t accepted. It was a shame, as we likely would have spent more if we’d been able to spend our hard earned cash.
That aside, we really enjoyed our visit and would still recommend it just top up your bank if you still like to pay with cash.
Ps. We live on a farm and run 2 businesses in agriculture so no way a dig just a personal preference to use cash

Asked for certain things to be left off my burger due to intolerance. Was told they can't make any changes to the burger. Absolute joke, won't be back. I bet Jeremy doesn't know about this ridiculous rule. Travelled all the way here for nothing!!!!!!
This food is AWESOME
Excellent Dog Food! Bought their intro box, great price! After purchase was informed of what a monthly charge would be, I was flabbergasted. I'm retired and couldn't afford it. Received confirmation my membership was canceled 🙂 I'm mixing what they sent me with my dogs kibble and he devours the bowl at one time. KUDOS to them just to pricey for a retired person! They did offer other options but,I spend enough on his kibble. 10 1/2 years old and very healthy
We went to Farmer’s Dog Easter Weekend
We went to Farmer’s Dog Easter Weekend, the food was amazing and also the beer and wine. Staff were super friendly. Lovely atmosphere, would defo go again.
Friday lunch vibe
Excellent service, serving delicious food.
Add to that a chilled vibe made my trip a 5 ⭐ event
Perfectly cooked food and excellent staff
Three of us visited. We had pork belly, saddle of lamb and steak pie.
Perfectly cooked and perfect proportions.
Its not cheap, mains were £26 and £28, but happy to pay that for good quality meat, which it really was!
The staff were fabulous, very friendly and efficient.
Definitely a 5* experience, we will be back
Great Service and great food
Great Service and great food. We have eaten at the Farmers dog 3 times now. First for a roast, then a midweek meal and the steak pie is unbelievable. We then tried a Burger from the Farmers puppy. Both the restaurant and the outdoor kitchen are worth a visit. Definitely the best pub food we have ever had. The pub is lovely and tge Service was second to none. We will definitely visit again and visit the Cotswolds again
Nice atmosphere and friendly staff
Nice atmosphere and friendly staff, it felt quite rushed and we didn’t get all our drinks at the start of the meal, food was decent, just became quite dry halfway through as the pie had a thick crust and the mash lacked gravy.
Desserts were nice.
Probably best to come for the atmosphere and the drinks
Disappointing meal
It took me a number of months to finally secure a booking for Sunday lunch at The Farmers Dog and we were excited for the meal. However, what should have been a lovely family meal was awful. The soup was like warm to start, the roast was cold, the potatoes were hard and the ice cream was served in a small cardboard tub (like you would expect to buy from an ice cream van). They ran out of the very basic essentials that you would expect to have on the table ie. salt and pepper and there was hardly any gravy on our plates. We asked for a jug of gravy to share (7 people) and were given the smallest milk jug I’ve ever seen. We waited over half an hour for our second bottle of wine and had to ask the waitress twice where our wine was. The whole meal was just a shambles. I didn’t want to cause a fuss as we were dining with my daughters new in-laws and I knew it would embarrass my daughter, but as soon as I got home I wrote an email expressing my disappointment. My email was ignored. I sent a second email a week later, but again my email was ignored. I wish now that I had refused to pay the bill and made a fuss at the restaurant because it really wasn’t ok and they should have tried to correct their mistakes and acknowledged their failings with at least an apology. Rude, disgraceful behaviour. My disappointment has grown to outright disgust, hence my bad review.
This was our second time here and what…
This was our second time here and what can I say. Everything was amazing quick service great food can’t wait to go back again
UNBELIEVABLE!!!
UNBELIEVABLE!!!! The booking system was extremely easy to navigate and our booking was made without fuss although we did need to try the website daily in order to find a free table but it is little wonder as the food, the service and the atmosphere here was AMAZING!! The food - what can I say? Faultless, we tried fresh trout, mushrooms, soup of the day and pork for starters and non of us were up for sharing, we just wanted to savour our individual dishes and the same can be said for the main course, the STEAK PIE was amazing, the pastry was perfect and the meat filling was chunky, tender and delicious, the veg was perfectly cooked and the presentation was so very attractive. Onto dessert and again non of us were offering to share, upside down rhubarb sponge, bread and butter pudding, ice cream and apple tarte delighted our taste buds once again. I can honestly say that this was the best luncheon we have had the pleasure of enjoying for a very long time. The staff here are delightful, friendly, professional, understanding and caring making everyone feel totally at home. Would we visit again?? Try keeping us away, well worth the 5 hour round trip and hoping for it to be a regular treat in the future. WELL DONE ALL at the FARMER's DOG PUB - see you all soon we hope.
Jeremy Clarkson’s Pub
It’s my 60th on the 4th March I wanted a special experience at Clarkson’s Pub. The online booking system isn’t the best, basically it keeps crashing, after numerous attempts I managed to enter my bank details only for the portal to crash again. I checked my bank account online, I could see the pub had authorisation to charge me a tab - for example if you don’t turn up for your booking you get charged £35 cancellation fee. I decided to travel down from Banbury today on the 26th Feb 26 to see if my booking had been accepted. On arrival I was excited to see the Farmers Dog from the A 40 Burford Road it looked fantastic. On the opposite side of the pub I could see a large car park it was almost full to the brim. Manage to park my car, myself and my wife including my Spaniel Eve walked across the road to the pub - we visited the puppy area and to be honest loved the the shop and the outside area, bought a couple of drinks and just chilled. I then decided to go into the restaurant to see if my booking had been accepted. The place was packed to the rafters. I waited a few minutes at the reception station and was greeted by a very polite and helpful chap who informed me my booking had failed, he informed me you can’t book a reservation at the pub you have to do it online. I hope I’m able to book a table for the 4th March on my birthday, watch this space.
Update OMG my daughter has managed to book a table on the 4 th March 2026 14:00 can’t believe it best news ever lol
The Farmers Dog showed its true colours
Rather than leave a review I shall leave the email I sent to the manager of the Farmers Dog to which no one replied or dealt with. I never wanted to escalate this to tripadvisor but with the lack of communication it’s compounded the absolute disdain the Farmers Dog management have towards their guests.
“Good evening
Myself and friends dined at the Farmers Dog this evening.
Within 15 minutes of arriving a drink was spilt by the waitress all over me. It wasn’t just a small splash, the entire cocktail fell over me, then my chair, then the floor. My coat was on my chair so naturally this was affected by the spillage too.
I was left sat in the puddle of cocktail. At the time I removed my jumper as it was soaking and not wanting to get my shirt completely wet I removed it and then went to the toilets to wash my hands and arms.
On returning, the manager laughing said my jacket had been wiped down, my wet chair had been replaced and he wasn’t going to charge for my pint. I thought he was trying to make light of it by joking in some way. Of course my chair needed replacing, it had a puddle on it that I was sat in.
What was upsetting is that I had to sit through the entire meal in soaking clothes. Not once did the manger ask how we were.
When the bill arrived, one pint had been left off. One pint for £7.00! This was a damn insult.
I spoke to your manager and explained we had travelled from Devon, this meal was a 7 hour round trip with the M5 closed today. I spent the entirety soaking wet and really not enjoying my food as a result. We were with our friends children 14 & 10 years old. They are fans but of the tv programme and had been looking forward to this visit for sometime. I didn’t want to ruin their experience by complaining throughout. I presumed the manager was going to show some hospitality at the end and recognise the seriousness of a guest covered in a drink and apologise with perhaps a token offer of a round of drinks. However he didn’t. Instead when we were leaving he ignored us so I chose to confront him. In response he gave a soppy excuse which sounded like a weak SOP. I explained that with over 20 years of restaurant ownership myself when accidents happen, which they can do, I personally make sure
that the guest is left reassured and comfortable. I would NEVER leave a guest covered in a spilt drink and in wet clothes. I would NEVER expect a guest to leave my establishment worse state than when they arrived.
I drove home, still in my wet, stained clothes - 2.5 hours later I’m back in Devon having spent £320.00 and ruined clothes.
In the light I’m able to see the damage to my clothes.
1 coat - covered in splashes, dry cleaning needed, hopefully it will get the marks out otherwise £600 in the bin
1 jumper- covered in stains and splashes, again £40 in the bin of I can’t clean it
1 shirt - stained £50
1 pair of trousers - wet, stained £90
Trainers - should clean off but still splashed in cocktail.
At no point did your manager take ownership of his guests. He was stood in the area we were sat but ignored us all night. In fact he spent most of the time messing about with the waitresses.
At no point did the manager take initiative of the situation
At no point did the manager offer any form of good will.
I am not an unreasonable person, I paid the bill in full including the £36 gratuity even after the events. However, If it was me I would be frankly embarrassed to leave a guest like this and would make sure as a minimum I offered to cover the cost of dry cleaning.
I mentioned this to him, he offered his business card and said to get in touch. Well now I have.
I am absolutely fuming with such a bad service and lack of credibility from a manager who would be better suited to a Wetherspoons.
I would appreciate a reply, it is not fair or just that my clothes have been ruined through absolutely no fault of my own but the actions of The Farmers Dog employees.
This could have all been resolved if the manager took accountability and was reactive and proactive rather than inactive.
I don’t want to escalate further, we’re all in the same industry”
Best wishes
The booking system is not up to it
The booking system is simply not up to the job. They open for bookings at 9am on the first of the month. It's impossible to get on the site initially as it is overwhelmed. When you do, it accepts a time but then says 'time slot no longer available'. I went through that process a hundred times, when suddenly I got into the booking process!
I gave credit card details etc, and it said confirming your booking, then 'oops something went wrong'.
Now I don't know whether I have a booking or not. Probably not.
The fact is , the farmer's dog is brilliant if you can get a booking. Clearly somebody does-thousands of them, but they maybe they are Tech Nerds who can beat the system!
P.S. I was subsequently able to book, but I think my comments on the booking system stand. The Farmer's Dog is, of course an excellent pub.
What a lovely pub
What a lovely pub, in fact it's stunning. The food was amazing, I had the chefs special starter, pork fritters with apple sauce which was a great combination, mv wife iust had bread and butter.. For mains I had Slow Roasted Saddle of Lamb, Faggot, Mash, Roasted Vegetables, Seasonal Greens, Hawkstone Gravy & Mint Sauce, this was amazing, the only downside was there wasn't enough veg in my opinion The Wife had the Steak Pie, Mash, Seasonal Vegetables & Hawkstone Gravy, it was packed full, nice shortcrust pastry and tender Steak, exceptionak
Desert for me Apple & Oat Crumble Cake with cotswold cream ice cream again this was very good..
Drinks, I was driving so it was Hawkstone Zero £4.50 (very nice and cheap) for me and sparkling water for both of us, 750ml bottle £3.50 very nice and the cheapest apart from the supermarket All in all we had a great time, and everyone around us seemed very happy indeed... 10/10 from us..
Great experience
Super friendly staff. Food was amazing and beautifully presented. Will defiantly be coming back.
Affordable only if you have very deep pockets
Can't fault the staff or the food, both are brilliant. They do probably the best meat pie I've ever seen. The big problem is that everything is just so hellishly expensive. It's a place that has to be visited at least once just to say you've been, but it isn't a place most people could afford to eat at regularly. We had three courses and a couple of drinks, which came to over £130 after the sneaky 12.5 % service charge was added, and one desert was only a small tub of ice cream. It's really more of a tourist venue unless you have very deep pockets and it was a bit disappointing that they don't accept cash.
Zero plant based options , and over priced
Zero plant based options - the waitress wouldn’t even ask the kitchen to do the veggies without butter!! ! Nice venue , but having dry bread as an option is not ok. My companions meals were adequate but over priced . If you want healthy animal fat free food , swerve this place
