Shady Business Practices - STAY AWAY
They add on unnecessary free trials without requesting them then start charging you for them from the following month.
They also make it extremely difficult for you to cancel.
Having a 90 day cancellation period is unheard of.
Even after confirming all my details on the phone and being able to cancel the trial subscription they still require a written email to cancel the main subscription.
They are intentionally making it more difficult for people to leave
Companies with shady practices like this should be avoided for use by any business. Any business owner knows that customers are built on trust and integrity not by shady practices.
Will be avoiding these guys and warning fellow business owners to stay clear.

Our 90-day initial term is designed to offer greater flexibility compared to the one-year (or longer) contracts that many telecom providers require. We understand that lengthy contracts can be restrictive, so our approach is intended to benefit our customers. This three-month minimum term helps cover setup costs since we do not charge a setup fee like many providers. For context, the UK’s largest telecom provider, BT, offers contracts ranging from 12 months to 5 years.
To ensure the security of our customers, we ask for a written email with a security question to cancel the service. This step is crucial in preventing any unauthorised cancellations, particularly from customer competitors. While we understand that this process might seem cumbersome, it’s a measure put in place to protect our customers’ interests.
Regarding the free trial of our call recording feature, we offer a one-month free trial at sign-up, with clear instructions and an email reminder before the trial ends. Customers can easily opt out of this trial during sign-up by deselecting the toggle option. However, we understand your concerns and have processed a refund for the call recording, acknowledging that it is no longer required.
We strive to be transparent and fair in all our practices, and we’re committed to ensuring that our customers feel secure and satisfied with our services. Hidden Fees and Unethical Practices
I initially signed up for Switchboard Free’s virtual phone number service, which was advertised at £5 plus VAT (totalling £6). My intention was simple: to obtain a straightforward virtual number for personal use. However, after using the service briefly, I quickly found the features clunky and not user-friendly. More troubling, though, was their aggressive data harvesting, including attempts to collect location data, which raised serious privacy concerns.
Due to these red flags, I requested to cancel the service. Fast forward a month, and I was shocked to discover that Switchboard Free had taken £23.95 from my account for a renewal of the service. Even more infuriating, they had automatically added a call recording feature—something I never requested or consented to. This unauthorized charge feels both deceptive and unethical.
When I reached out to their support to request a refund, they flatly refused, which is completely unacceptable. I’m now in the process of disputing the charge through my bank and also engaging with Trading Standards to highlight these questionable practices.
My advice: think very carefully before engaging with this company. Their pricing transparency is poor, their features are subpar, and their customer service is unhelpful. It’s simply not worth the hassle.

Firstly, regarding the request for your address, we would like to clarify that this is a standard requirement based on Ofcom guidelines. As a telecoms provider, we are obligated to request an address from our customers to ensure that emergency services can be dispatched to the correct location if necessary. Additionally, this measure helps us prevent misuse of our services by ensuring that only legitimate users have access to our platform. This is a common practice across the industry.
Regarding the charge for the call recording feature, we would like to clarify that the call recording option was toggled on during the sign-up process. This feature is offered free for the first month. At the end of this trial period, we sent an email to confirm if you would like to continue with the service. Since we did not receive a response, the feature was automatically renewed. We apologise for any inconvenience caused.
As an address was not provided we have closed your account. Additionally, we have refunded all payments made to ensure that you are not out of pocket for a service you no longer wish to use.
