The firm has been nothing short of excellent while we have been going though the process of purchasing my first home. Abigail has always answered any questions I have had in a quick and confident manner, she has been very supportive when I have sent a list of questions that come with a confused first time buyer. The whole team from the beginning has been excellent and I really couldn't praise them enough. Thank you so all so much but especially Abigail who just made this whole process feel easy and relaxed.

A huge thank you to our solicitor Kelly. She helped make what can be very stressful experience absolutely seamless. Communication was excellent as was her professionalism.

Avoid at all costs. I have had an awful experience with Stephens Wilmot Solicitors. The communication was extremely poor, there was no sense of urgency at any point (even on completion day), the tone of voice on the phone sounded irritable, rude and as if I was an inconvenience rather than a paying customer and I often felt patronised and as if I was being told off, as well as being spoken over.

A few of my specific experiences that were extremely poor:
- On completion day, there was a complete lack of urgency and communication, which actually resulted in me having to suggest that they tried calling the party that they were waiting to hear from rather than waiting for a reply on email seeing as the estate agents with our keys had 1 hour left until they closed.
- The day before completion, it was very touch and go whether it was all going to fall through or not. I called for an update in the afternoon, and I was told that they were dealing with someone else's file at the moment and they would look at mine after. Even if true, you should never make a paying customer not feel like a priority, particularly when there are a matter of hours left to complete on a huge purchase.
- We were advised, with a matter of hours before our deadline, that we suddenly needed further bank statements from giftors. This could have been mentioned weeks prior, and we could have had these ready. This caused completely unnecessary pressure and stress less than 24 hours before completion.
- Stephens Wilmot refused to take their solicitor fees out of the sale, meaning right before completion we were short and had to have an emergency giftor help us. Upon speaking to other estate agents and our mortgage advisor, they have never heard of a firm not willing to take solicitor fees out of the sale, and could not come up with any reason as to why they would not let us. Again, this caused completely unnecessary stress right before completion.
- In the beginning, it took over 5 weeks for them to receive contracts - again demonstrating the sheer lack of urgency and chasing on their customers behalf. This slowed down the completion date by a month.
- We were ill-advised on some of the searches, and after doing my own research and talking to the estate agents, I actually saved myself over £150 in fees that Stephens Wilmot said I had to pay.
- They actually broke various data protection laws, when they sent one of our giftors another giftors information without our permission, which is outrageous for a solicitor firm.
- The day before completion, we specifically asked many times to be contacted via telephone if they needed anything from us, as we were packing the house up and not able to check emails as often as required. This request was ignored completely, with time sensitive and urgent follow ups emailed to us without an accompanying phone call. If we had missed these emails due to packing, the sale would have fallen through.
- Stephen's Wilmot did not fight for anything on our behalf throughout all of the searches, despite asking, we were often told 'we don't have to enforce that', however on the sale side, my buyer's solicitors seemed to enforce pretty much everything for them. It seemed extremely unfair to be asked to provide things for my buyer by Stephens Wilmot, that they themselves said that they would not be asking for for me.

We are considering whether to take this to the Legal Ombudsman, as we feel our experience was that poor.

Avoid at all costs.

I had a great experience with Stephens Wilmot Solicitors during my house purchase. My case was handled by Caroline Facey, who was excellent throughout the process.
Although the transaction took longer than expected due to delays from the seller's solicitor, Caroline was proactive, kept me informed every step of the way, and worked hard to keep things moving. Her communication was outstanding, and I always felt supported and reassured, even during the more frustrating stages.

We used Stephens Wilmot Solicitors for conveyancing on our property, we are happy to say thanks to Caroline Facey and her team we have successfully completed our purchase, even with all the bank holidays in the way and holidays we got there, with time left from leave we had taken to move in.

The only criticisms i have is replying to emails, though most were answered promptly a few went under the radar and the delay in ordering property searches after being instructed and receiving the initial payment, but i can forgive for that as we are only human and have busy jobs.

We were recommended to this firm by our estate agent, Archer & Partners in Sussex, although we later discovered the solicitor handling our case was based in Wales. Unfortunately, our experience with the conveyancing process was far more stressful than it needed to be.
Communication was poor throughout, and we often found ourselves having to chase for updates and information. Requests for documents were not communicated in a timely manner, with a list of outstanding items only being sent the day before completion - something that could easily have been avoided with better organisation and communication.
Overall, the process felt disorganised and added unnecessary stress at an already demanding time. Based on our experience, I would not recommend this firm to anyone looking for a smooth and efficient conveyancing service.
