Mixed reviews depending on the vet
Dr Cahill has been wonderful every time we've seen him. He takes the time to explain everything clearly and is friendly, caring and professional. My previous five-star review was based on the excellent care he provided for my cat, Jax.
Unfortunately, my most recent visit was a completely different experience.
This time, Jax was seen by Dr Hodges, and it was by far the worst veterinary appointment I have experienced in the eight years I have owned him.
Jax is a nervous cat and can become defensive when frightened. During the consultation, I felt that his handling was inappropriate and unnecessarily stressful. Dr Hodges lifted and shook Jax's carrier, causing him to fall out, and then chased him around the consultation room while attempting to throw a blanket over him. The entire situation left both my cat and me extremely distressed.
I was also disappointed by the way I was spoken to during the appointment. When I explained that I was experiencing financial difficulties and asked about delaying payment, I felt I was treated dismissively and without compassion. I did not feel listened to, and the overall manner was impatient and unprofessional.
The experience was genuinely upsetting. I had heard many positive things about this practice, and my experiences with Dr Cahill had been excellent, which makes this encounter all the more disappointing.
While I highly recommend Dr Cahill, I cannot say the same about Dr Hodges based on my experience. If you have a nervous or anxious cat, I would strongly encourage discussing handling methods in advance and requesting a vet you feel comfortable with.
I am giving one star because I cannot give zero. Were it not for Dr Cahill and the excellent care he has provided in the past, my rating would be lower.
