After trying a lot of different "hacks" to get dark mode for SSMS, a colleague suggested this. This worked first try, and literally just required an install. Seamless. Thank you!

Definitly a "must have" for people used to dark modes, wanting the same expirience from Sql Server Magagement Studio.

I was looking for a dark theme for SSMS (SQL Server) and this one works perfectly (and that too, for free)

the hidden dark mode of SSMS is fine, but nowhere near as good as the dark mode that SQL Shades achieves. It would take me forever to recreate the same dark mode going setting by setting. why waste so much time when you can add the SQL Shades plugin and get the best dark mode for SSMS?

Easy to add to SSMS and it does what it says - all the garish, harsh Windows white is changed to dark mode. I've had multiple screen share sessions get sidetracked as another developer realizes the grid view/object explorer are much easier to read and want to know how that was accomplished.

The production server coloring is a nice feature - not as robust as SSMS Toolpack but that extension isn't allowed at my company so I'm thankful for the "don't be stupid" red border!

SQL Shades has been a game-changer for my daily workflow in SSMS. It's refreshing to see such an impactful solution to a long-standing issue, Microsoft was not able to implement until today. Kudos for your dedication! Absolutely a must-have for any SSMS user (who loves a real dark mode)!

A fantastic tool which brings much needed cohesiveness to the Windows developer/DBA. Works as described and is always improving.

As others said before me, SSMS was the only remaining app developers use daily that was lacking proper dark theme and this solved that problem. No more strike of light when switching from dark windows. I really love this and huge thanks to a developer who made it free.

@SQL Shades - is there any way to get a straight download link? For some stupid reason, the sqlshades.com website is blocked by my company's firewall, and I'm tired of going blind looking at SSMSv20's white everything theme.

For any real developer spending time in SSMS (or with it windowed), the incessant glare of white real estate -- a "dark theme" oversight -- is an irritation that turns quickly to a headache. SQL Shades is a perfect solution: It just works. Even better, it's free (without nags)! Nevertheless I found it so useful, I donated "a coffee."

The developer, Michael Van Devender, is friendly and responsive to user issues -- and proactive in development. I only just upgraded to v20 and his SQL Shades already supported it.

Every day, every day, I'm thankful for SQL Shades. It makes my multi-mega-monitor SSMS questions so much easier to abide for hours on end, which is my life.

It is a travesty of the highest order that, In the year of our lord, 2024, SSMS STILL does not have a dark mode. SQL Shades gets rid of the hacky hoops you used to have to jump through to make this happen. It's free, but even if it wasn't, it would be worth every penny, so buy my man a cup of coffee or two.
