Smartcat’s translation interface is inefficiently designed, making even simple tasks unnecessarily time‑consuming. In practice, every job requires at least 1.5× the normal effort, yet translators cannot pass that extra 0.5 cost on to the end client.

On top of the workflow inefficiency, Smartcat recently introduced an excessive withdrawal fee for bank transfers:
$10.00 + 0.5% for every payout. There's no reason given for this charge at all. Then, the intermediary bank deducts another $25 per transfer (so it's not the transfer fee). As a result, by the time your earnings reach your account, a significant portion has already been taken away.

If a client insists on using Smartcat, you now have to negotiate a higher rate upfront just to offset these platform‑imposed losses. Unfortunately, increasing reliance on AI to undercut professional translators makes fair negotiation even less likely.

And even when you do secure a project, Smartcat effectively charges both sides: taking money from the translator and the client simultaneously. The platform has become a system where professionals work harder, earn less, and pay more for the privilege of accessing their own income.

It's a good and profitable business model though.

It was good experience to work with this tool.

We use Smartcat for content translation, which integrates smoothly with Adobe Experience Manager. The integration quality and translation standards are excellent, enabling us to work more efficiently. Their support team is outstanding, assisting us in creating POCs and guiding us through production implementation.

Avoid working with Smartcat under all costs. The end-product was extraordinarily poor, and we almost had to double the original client budget to fix all of the mistakes (of which we had to absorb the extra costs). The support team is not helpful in the slightest, you can only raise "tickets" that often go unanswered. Save yourself the client embarrassment, it is much cheaper and more efficient to use alternative options.

I am using this site for testing translation from AEM, and site works great.

Quick, fast, easy to use!

Good prpgram for creating training material.

I needed to translate a presentation deck into four different languages. Smartcat did a great job of recreating the deck and keeping the same format, and updating the text. I had native speakers review the decks post-translation: Spanish had no updates, German had two manual updates, and French had quite a few (over 10). Way better than Google translate, but French is not as advanced as the others.

Works well with multilingual site and very quick to translate the content.
