Sixt Blamed Us for Hidden Undercarriage Damage We Did NOT Cause — A Completely Unfair and Predatory Practice
If I could give NO stars, I would, but I will never use Sixt again!
Sixt blindsided us with a completely baseless damage claim, and travelers deserve to know exactly how this company treats its customers. We caused no damage whatsoever to the vehicle. None. The car was driven responsibly, returned in excellent condition, and we had zero incidents during the rental.
At pickup, Sixt performed an inspection and provided a checkout report that showed no undercarriage damage. Nothing was noted, nothing was disclosed, and nothing was visible unless someone physically crawled underneath the car — something no customer is instructed or expected to do.
Yet at return, Sixt suddenly “found” a scratch under the vehicle, in a location that was never documented at checkout and could not have been seen during the initial inspection. This is a textbook example of an unfair and predatory damage‑claim tactic.
Here’s what makes this so unacceptable:
- We caused no damage to the car
- The scratch was not on the checkout report
- It was located under the car, where customers are not told to inspect
- Sixt’s own employee did not identify it at pickup
- They provided no proof that the scratch occurred during our rental
- They are still attempting to charge us for it
If Sixt wants to hold customers responsible for undercarriage damage, then they must document the undercarriage at pickup. They didn’t. Instead, they’re trying to shift the cost of pre‑existing or undisclosed damage onto us after the fact.
This is fundamentally unfair, and it reflects a disturbing pattern of behavior that many other customers have reported. We refuse to be bullied into paying for damage we did not cause, and we have already escalated this to consumer protection authorities and our credit card issuer.
If you’re considering renting from Sixt, take this as a serious warning: They will hold you liable for hidden damage that was never disclosed, never documented, and not visible at pickup. Photograph everything — even areas you shouldn’t have to — because Sixt clearly won’t protect you.
