Leslie was very kind and helpful and sorted out my storage move into a larger unit in a jiffy! A very nice smiley character!

Lesley discussed our options and was extremely helpful. Took us to look at the unit and explained access times etc. Overall a really good experience.

Our experience with Shurgard Northampton Riverside has been extremely poor and deeply frustrating.

We have had a unit here for years, and wanting to move to a unit that did not have shelving we called up to see if this was possible. We were quoted a specific price over the phone for a unit by Flo before visiting the site. Based on that price, we attended the store and signed the contract with Flo, which clearly reflected the exact amount we had been quoted on the phone. We relied on this information in good faith.

However, after signing, Shurgard began invoicing over £200 more than the agreed contract amount per month — despite the fact that the contract they issued and we signed shows the quoted price in writing. This is not a misunderstanding; it is a clear discrepancy between what was agreed and what they are now demanding.

We began disputing this on the 6th November, when we provided the signed contract via email we were ignored, and after numerous chasing we received a response a month later advising we are not entitled to the new rate that was quoted and signed against. As they were taking so long to respond to our emails we stopped the direct debit payments being taken while we disputed the incorrect price. The store manager Eugene then responded on the 9th January advising that we either pay or terminate the contract and that he has blocked our access to the unit and over‑locked it, preventing us from accessing our own belongings during an active, legitimate dispute. This behaviour is both unreasonable and unprofessional.

We sent a formal written complaint on the 9th January, outlining the evidence, the contract amount, and the timeline — yet we have received no response whatsoever. No acknowledgment. No investigation. No attempt at resolution.

The combination of:
- Misrepresenting prices,
- Attempting to charge above the contracted amount,
- Blocking access during a dispute, and
- Ignoring a formal complaint,

is completely unacceptable and raises serious concerns about customer treatment and business practices.

Based on our experience, we absolutely cannot recommend Shurgard Northampton Riverside.

Update 11/02/2026

Shurgard finally responded to our emails after the written review was posted on TrustPilot and are allowing us to vacate the unit, however Hannah Buffery has advised that they will pass our unpaid debt to debtcollectors even after explaining the below:

- While Shurgard have now explained that you cannot move to the same size unit for a cheaper rate, this is not what was advised at the time of the move. Proof of this has been provided, including the email from our company to Florentina confirming that the price quoted to us was “reduced from the current monthly figure we are paying”, to which she subsequently replied to, not mentioning anything to the contrary and the signed contract which confirms the lower price.

- We moved units on 25th September, and since then we have overpaid the first two invoices issued at the incorrect rate.

- After querying the rate and providing the signed contract on 12th November, we received no response for over a month, despite sending two chasers. When Shurgard finally responded on 15th December, we replied the same day—again with no response from Shurgard for nearly another month, until 9th January. We again replied immediately, and only after leaving a negative review did we receive any further communication. These long delays have been entirely on Shurgard’s side.

The evidence clearly shows that the errors and delays have not been caused by us - again I have attached all email trails which corroborate with the above.

Given this sequence of events, attempting to force us to pay an amount that was never agreed, and threatening third‑party debt collection, is not only inappropriate but deeply concerning from a business conduct standpoint. These kinds of dealings—misquoting prices, issuing incorrect invoices, failing to address disputes for months, and then pursuing alleged debts arising from those unresolved disputes—are completely unlawful in any standard commercial context and would never stand up in court.

The storage is perfect and ideal location unfortunately the only issue is when one lift was out of service
Many cart trolleys just left on the floor levels and not back in the right place I feel very vulnerable when I'm there as anything could happen when your there on your own.

Very good service. Excellent storage facility and very safe. Very clean and very secure. I am extremely pleased with the whole experience.

This was our first time renting storage. I initially phoned head iffixe to book my local storage facility, I did find them unhelpful and there were mistakes made. So I then opted for going to my local storage office, wow what a different experience, Emma was friendly, helpful and knowledgable, she sorted my concerns, rectified an error. I thoroughly recommend her, just how arm show the person face to face experience can not be replaced. Thank you for all your help.

On the whole, great. Not so great was door access keypad entry denied. Downloaded app outside the premises and had more success. Then inside, one of the two lifts wasn't working. So first impressions were slightly off. The unit though was clean and a good size. Plenty of trollies to use for bulky items.

Charley was extremely helpful and knowledgeable. Nothing was an issue and went out of her way to help. Would definitely recommend

Great customer service, very helpful both on the phone and on-site. No problem with changing to a bigger storage lock-up. Very pleased with the experience so far. Thank you for making a difficult situation a little bit easier for us.

First storage day arrival, could not find someone to get initial access but eventually when staff was found, the process was very helpful and for the remainder of the day all was straightforward

Absolutely flawless from start to finish. We urgently needed a unit due to a house move, and within the hour I was in my lock-up storing boxes. Mani, who picked up my call, was such a great help, as was the lady at the units (who seems to do everything!), and the follow-up call a day or two after to check everything was OK. I really can't find fault.

Do not put the card for payment of services for storage of your things, on direct debit. They withdraw money when they want and as much as they want. When they are told about it, they just say Sorry. This is not acceptable.

Didn't get call back to tell me how to access after I booked on line lad on phone said he will ring back to go though progress but didn't. Rang back no answer. So was left with a van full so had to take day off work to unload to get to unit to find 1 lift wasn't working one I needed . Then a business had all there boxes out on landed making it hard to pass

My first time ever renting out storage and I was made sure I knew where to go to get to my locker and about downsizing or upsizing if I need to and if I needed any boxes etc that I had to just go to reception or ask ,even had a check up call making sure everything was OK which I appreciated all the staff are friendly and helpful
