I have been a consultant for various expert networks for years, including a successful two-year relationship with proSapient where I completed numerous projects.
Recently, however, I experienced a significant issue with a consultation. During the call, the interviewer explicitly admitted to technical issues with their microphone, which made it difficult for me to hear the questions clearly. Despite this, I provided expert insights consistent with high-level work I have successfully delivered for other major networks on the exact same subject matter.
Following the call, I received written confirmation from a proSapient representative that the consultation was successful and the payment was approved. However, a manager later unilaterally reversed this decision, claiming my answers were 'unsatisfactory.'
It is incredibly disappointing to have a long-term professional relationship undermined in this way, especially when the company's own technical faults contributed to the difficulty of the call. I attempted to resolve this through proper channels but have been met with a refusal to honor their initial payment agreement. I consulted for 17 minutes and I am owed £99.17.
I am sharing this as a warning to other consultants: ensure you have clear, written documentation for every project, as my experience indicates that established professional relationships do not guarantee fair treatment regarding payments

Unreasonable screening requests compared to other expert networks! I was contacted about a “paid consultation,” but before any client commitment or terms were agreed, I was asked to complete an extensive questionnaire covering market penetration, market shares, and multi-year growth outlooks across numerous geographies.

This is not reasonable screening. It is unpaid consulting and market research. These questions could not be answered seriously in 1–2 sentences.
I have worked with several comparable expert networks and have had consistently good experiences. I have never encountered screening of this scope or depth prior to a confirmed paid engagement.

The process shows little respect for experts’ time and professional boundaries. I declined to proceed and would strongly caution other experts to do the same.
