Beware of Hidden Auto-Renewal — Refused to Refund Charges for a Product We Never Used

bought the CITYPLAY sensors for my son's youth soccer training. What I thought was a hardware purchase with included app access turned out to be an indefinite auto-renewing $149/year subscription that silently charged my card for two consecutive years — during which my son never once opened the app, recorded a session, or synced the sensors.

Why zero usage? We're based in South Korea, where the Korea Football Association (KFA) prohibits wearable tracking devices during official training and matches. The product was literally unusable for its intended purpose.

When I discovered the charges and contacted support, they agreed to refund 2026 but refused to refund 2025 — even though their own data confirms zero activity on our account for both years. They kept $149 of my money for a service that was never accessed, never used, and couldn't legally be used in our country.

PlayerMaker knows exactly which accounts are active and which aren't. Choosing to keep money from customers who demonstrably received zero value from the subscription is a business decision, not a policy limitation.

If you're considering buying these sensors, understand that you're not making a one-time purchase — you're entering a recurring subscription that will auto-charge you every year whether you use it or not, and getting a refund when you don't use it is an uphill battle. I wish I'd read the reviews here before buying.

Great company

Do not buy the Playmaker

We’ve not even had these a month and have so many problems. Sensors not syncing the data, so need to be reset meaning the data from the session/game is lost. Random battery drain, the sensors randomly flashing different colours (and not always the same colour!), and then sensors just loosing connectivity.

I’ve raised my concerns several times with the helpdesk to be fobbed off and given the same repetitive advice over and over again. Despite me asking for them to replace the sensors several times (under their guarantee programme) because they are clearly faulty, this has not happened. I was told to book a call with the technical team using calendly to investigate the issue. I did this and awaited the call. I this call did not happen.

I’m fairly convinced the entire help desk is run by bots and AI at this point. I opted for these over a vest tracker because GPS is not required. If you’re thinking of buying this product, consider if you want the headache that comes with them and the appalling levels of customer service. It’s honestly not worth it.

Don't buy from outside UK

If you buy from outside UK your package will be delayed and there are extra cost for custom. Sad if you bought it for your sons birthday. And they don't mention it at the frontpage where it just say: Delivery time: 5 days.

Very disappointing customer support.

Very disappointing customer support.

It took three days for someone to respond to my initial request. After several days of conversations and sending screenshots, I was told: “We have now validated your recent session.”

I followed the instructions, closed the app and refreshed it, but nothing changed.

Over the next three days I sent several follow-up messages and received absolutely no response, despite being told earlier that “We are always here to help.” At one point, one of my support tickets was simply closed without resolving the issue, which forced me to open a new ticket and start the process again.

I also tried contacting the company via Instagram — both through a private message and by leaving a comment under their latest post — but again received no reply.

Considering that I am paying a significant amount of money for this service, I expected a much higher level of customer support. It is also frustrating that there is no direct email available to contact the support team.

Very disappointing experience.

Dealing with customer service to have a replacement has been an absolute nightmare, with over 20 emails, photos, videos, video calls.
I ended up loosing months of subscription and still they won't replace it.
