I've been a member for over 3 years and it was the first thing I looked at in the morning. Since the credits system replaced the old way I've completely lost interest in it. I constantly run out of credits a week before they reset even though I limit myself to the competitions I do enter. I see there's a copy and paste response to almost every complaint and saying it was unsustainable the old way, doesn't explain why you could do it when I joined and there were 23,000 members and now there's only 12,000. Also the way you lose your credit if you enter a competition and change your mind, if you don't have anything else to enter in its place. I've cancelled and I've still got access for a few months but I don't think I'll bother to carry on.

It was a bit of fun when it was free but now you have to pay to enter a competition. A No Go for a pensioner. OK it costs money to run the site but according to Companies House this company makes a phenomenal amount of money!!!
Looks to me they are now just getting greedy.

No good anymore, just want ya money. I was a paying member for about 10 years, no longer interested. Too expensive and then after paying a subscription they want more money buying points to enter contests if you reach your contest limit, which is so small! CONTINUED: Having received a reply I see no response actually adressing the problem other than upgrading!🤣🤣You say it is unsustainable, but other sites much larger (viewbug) seem to be able to offer a better experience without having to pay extra ontop and are often cheaper for a years subscription...they also offer expensive prizes, so can't see why your site is unsustainable!

DON'T use them. You are robbing people who already subscribed. For what we pay the amount of credits you give is a joke. I know the game, forcing people to pay pay pay. Also if you put an extra image in a competition in error, once removed it says paid in the corner, not putting the credits back on you balance to use in a different competition, that is wrong. Then why are we paying for images that are already in the system on our accounts? Again that isn't right. I really hope this fail. I have been a customer for years, as am extremely unhappy. I know that you don't careless and aren't providing a service any-more, credit should be a minimum of 3000 to 6000 depending on your subscription of course. I WILL be cancelling my subscription when it runs out after approx 10 years.

with their new credit system-in addition to their costly yearly fee-I will definitely be cancelling when my next subscription is due. Having a photo limit for the contests & challenges is fine but now, I won't have enough to enter more than 1 or 2 photos for each during the month. Disgraceful for a photography forum to be so motivated by screwing a few more pennies out of their customers.

I used to love photocrowd. I would use it daily to enter competitions for fun and seeing the new competitions would inspire me to go out and take photographs. I happily was a paying member. BUT they have introduced a new credit system, meaning that the amount of competitions I can now enter has dropped drematically. I would say the amount I can now enter has dropped by around 75%. If I wanted to get the same amount of entries I had before then I would have to pay 3 times what I was! Or buy more credits.
The site has come away from being a wonderful platform that was helping me be carefree and creative, to now being controlled and not about the love of photography at all. Money making and they just change things without any care of customers. If they went back to the old no credit system I would recommend this website. But with the credit system in place, I would not waste your time.

Photocrowd used to be a great site for showcasing your photos and getting constructive feedback from fellow photographers. Depending which level you subscribed to you could submit up to 6 photos in each competition. Since Photocrowd changed its subscription levels to getting a fixed amount of ‘entry credits’ per month you now need a “crystal ball” when thinking about entering a photo as you haven’t a clue about what competitions are coming up in the month. You can use all your credits by entering competitions in the first two or three weeks in the month and then be faced with having to buy more credits to cover the last week. Photocrowd you have got the model wrong and I can see the numbers of subscribers starting to fall already

I used to like this site and it used to encourage people to be their best . Now it is nothing more than another poorly managed social media hack site powered by a terrible algorithm. After 4 years of being a member, 8 will be cancelling my subscription.

I loved using photocrowd to get feedback on my pictures but now the new credits system is a joke. I don’t want to use credits on top of paying my yearly subscription. This really limits how many pictures you can now submit.

Recently changed to a credit per photo entry which have varying rates. You wont be able to enter all the comps unless you buy more "credits", this is ontop of your yearly membership fees.
Its just trying to fleece you now and because of this my membership will not be renewed unless its changed back.

Edit to reply to reply: Thanks, but I didn't need a lesson in how the credits work from a stock reply you seem to have put on most of the reviews. We know and we don't like the credits system. Full. Stop.
And also, it's BS that you don't carry across the FULL unused credits. How generous of you to let me take half.
"As the site and the volume of contests grow, giving unlimited contest access for a fixed annual fee wasn't sustainable."
This is also a BS argument - the number of contests hasn't grown, and the volume (stored photos) is not part of the credit system - vast majority of comps are community ones. It also contridicts the argument that people can enter as many comps as before.
This change is clearly to get more money from the whales who will enter all the photos (and thus pay to win) and thus have to buy extra credits.
By pretending that being able to buy eight entries in every competition isn't pay to win really makes me believe you don't know how the comps on the site even work - people rarely read the briefs and vote for the most "instagram" pics on the whole - a dog leaping is currently in the top 40 in a Cartier-Bresson comp about people photography - meritocracy my third eye. You want fair comps, then the number of entries should NOT be determined by how much you pay (or pay extra) for.
The net result is I have cancelled my sub renewal.
--------------
Photocrowd seem to like making changes to make their website worse.
The latest is to introduce a point based system to enter photos, with the different tiers getting a different amount of points a month.
Of course you can buy extra points, which you'll need to as it means you can't enter as many comps now over the course of a month as you previously could - essentially they've made it "Pay-to-Win" as the more tokens you pay, the more entires you get.
It's really getting to a point now where I cancel the sub.

I have been a member for a while but fluctuate in how much I use it.
I find it useful for testing new photos; pleased when they do well, rethink when they don’t. It’s more useful than fb or ig since you are not relying on an algorithm to get exposure. Plus you can upload - and viewers can view - at full resolution.
There are some constraints. The photos that do well at community contest are those that work at phone screen size. Those that do well in judged contests conversely are those that look good at full resolution. And community contests will always have some elements of randomness due to the relatively small number of votes cast (typically 20-40 per pic).
But subject to those constraints, all useful.

I can't recommend this website. It is mostly "pay to play" in which you pay more to get spots in contests and leaderboards. It is very stagnant website in which the same people keep posting the same old photos to stay on top (I saw a photo win a recent competition and it was loaded almost 7 years ago). I find Photocrowd quite unfair and disrespectful to photographers.

Having been an early member of Viewbug, I am disappointed to see Photocrowd following a similar trajectory where quantity and subscription fees are prioritized over artistic excellence. While features like APOY remain a high point, the site is suffering from an identity crisis, failing to decide if it is a platform for high-quality photography or a social community, dishing out "awards" that feel like participation trophies for average work. My own testing confirmed the inconsistency of the crowd-voting system, where the exact same image can swing from a Top 10 finish to the bottom 50% in repeat contests, suggesting that ranking is more of a lottery than a measure of skill. Ultimately, the platform feels stagnant, chasing mass-market growth at the expense of what attracted me to it in the first place, losing the curated prestige that originally made it promising for professional and aspiring to be photographers.
I originally wrote a good review for Photocrowd but have since deleted it. The principle idea may be good, but having been on it for a while i have found many faults and feel that it has got far too big for itself. Not impressed with the voting system generally, its quite complicated despite them trying to explain it, and when you tot up points you have received for images you have submitted it never seems to tally to what they reckon you have. I'm feeling now that its just something of a money making exercise. Although you can use it for free i think this is initially just to draw you in until you start to enjoy it and pay for different levels. Very crafty and spoils the enjoyment, you'll soon see your leaderboard slide for no apparent reason no matter how much you put into it or how decent your photos are. Extremely disappointed with this platform as time has gone on & am leaving.
I love Photocrowd, as an amateur photographer i think some of my pictures and compositions are very good but I wanted feedback, This site gives me that and more. I don't expect to win as there are lots of professional photgraphers on there and some really good ones. I do love that I have been in the top 50% and then 25% and finally 10% and have many judge merits and commendations which is great and very flattering. The topics have also given me food for thought and I now take shots in a different way. I don't take it all too seriously and am stunned by which ones do well sometimes and which ones don't. Of course I am going to vote for a better picture, and admire the skill.
Disappointed in the Community Rating system which rewards minimum participation (why would you vote for pics which may beat your own).
Many users trawl their library to find pics which are marginally On Brief and then others vote for them!
It seems that the epitome of a good portrait is still a black and white shot of an arab man with lots of wrinkles, a missing tooth and a patterned headscarf. Very 70s.
The best chance of a just result is the Judged Only contests which only rely on expert judges.
Some shots submitted are great. But many are not.
Good practice on different levels. Nice to compete.
Poor service, users accused of theft after winning, clear photoshopped images accepted, its a scam! And other users steal your photos from the site! No watermarks to protect artists/ photographers
