Petkey, like other microchip registries, advertises through Google. In this case, a registration was completed on our website after selecting one of those ads. While we understand this may not have been your intention, we’re unable to redirect or transfer registrations from other companies, as each registry operates independently.
As the service is digital and processed instantly once submitted, it is considered fulfilled at the point of completion, which means it is non-refundable under our terms. That said, we’re always happy to review individual cases, so please feel free to contact our support team if you’d like us to take another look.
Your pet’s microchip is now securely registered in our nationwide database, making their details accessible to vets, shelters, and pet professionals, and helping ensure they can be identified and returned to you if needed.

Stainless steel pet tags wear out rapidly. I would not buy one from this company.
I bought a pet tag stainless steel for $17.99. It only lasted six months and the engraving wore off of the tag. I spoke to a representative Railana, she told me it’s probably because my dog is so active and rubs the tag against objects that scratch or remove the engraving. My dog is 12 and never plays or does anything but go out in our yard do her business and come back in. I tried to ask for a new tag and was told no at first, then I said well I think it should last more than six months and I would like my money back. She put me on hold and came back and said will make you a new one and give you five dollars off. I found that unacceptable. I will buy a tag elsewhere.
I had signed up on their website many years ago and I tried to get on it and it said my password was incorrect. It took five tries to correct the password. Thanks to Kathy Milligan she took me through how to sign up and retrieve my password. She is a wonderful representative of your company and took a lot of time with me as I am not tech savvy and I’m 80 years old. It is too bad you cannot clone her because she is definitely knowledgeable, caring, and even wants to get to know you which she did. I am so pleased with her helping me and I felt like I was talking to a friend when we were finished with my problem.

Greedy overpriced and unfair about refunds.
This company has been terrible to deal with. I bought access to register my dog's microchip with them for $25 and changed my mind the same days since I found several reputable compaies that do it for free. I requested a refund that same day and they REFUSED--at first claiming they could not delete my pet's info (a complete lie) then when they did delete it, claiming that the refund was agaisnt their policy. Shitty customer service and just plain GREEDY. I strongly recommend using one of the alternative and reputable FREE services to register/activate your pet's microchip such as findpet.com or any other microchip registries participating in AAHA by looking up the list on the American Animal Hospital Association (AAHA) website.

We understand that when you see “free” registry options online, paying for registration can raise questions.
The key difference is that Petkey is not simply a database that stores contact information. When you register with us, your microchip is activated in the national lookup system and connected to our active recovery services.
That includes 24/7 live U.S.-based phone support (which you were able to reach), proactive lost pet alerts sent to shelters and veterinary offices, recovery outreach assistance, and ongoing system maintenance and security. Providing live support and active recovery services requires real staffing and infrastructure, which is why Petkey operates as a paid service rather than a basic data registry.
Some registries provide free data storage only. Pet owners should absolutely choose the option that best fits their expectations. Our focus is providing hands-on support designed to help reunite pets and families as quickly as possible.

My experience with peykey has not been good and the refuse any type of refund. My experience also occurred right after my sister's death. I found them not easy to work with at all. I DO NOT RECOMMEND THEM.

When my dog Penny went missing, I reached out to Petkey.org for help. The process was straightforward, and they moved quickly to get her alert posted.

No Customer Service, you call, sit on hold for 15 minutes, ask for a call back and don’t get one.
THEN you purchase a tag, write in the notes you want a small one and get 3 tags bigger than your dogs head.
After that you will be allowed to spend an ADDITIONAL $75 to replace the tags with the corrects ones. OMG

Our ID tags are custom-made based on the size selected at checkout. Sizing is determined by the option chosen during purchase, which is why the tags were produced as ordered and can’t be exchanged once made.

After talking with representative Amirah L. I was very happy and satisfied with her knowledge and understanding of what my issues were. Beware of this company
Beware of this company. My daughter received an email from them stating your pets microchip registration is pending and to log in to get a discount on lifetime registration. Our pet has been registered to ME his entire life. He was microchipped 7 yrs ago by his vet and it was registered for life with a different company. Its always been my name at vet, my email, and his dog license has always been in my name alone. I googled this and found they search databases for micro chip numbers. No clue how they got my daughters name or email out of it. Imagine if I wasnt a responsible pet owner and keep all receipts. The company I use is looking into this. Don't be fooled into paying twice when you already have your chip registered. When I tried to call the recording says to leave a message with the microchip number. Not even 24 hr agents like the company I use who picked up right away

Thank you for sharing your concerns. We completely understand how frustrating it must feel to receive an unexpected email when you’ve always kept your pet’s records up to date, and you’ve clearly been very diligent about making sure your pet is protected.
The only way your daughter would have received an email from us is if her address was entered into our system at some point, this can sometimes happen if a registration was started online but never completed. In those cases, our system may send a reminder about finishing the process.
To clarify, we do not search external databases or use microchip numbers to find or contact pet owners. Any messages we send come only from information already provided directly to us.
If you’re able to share the email address where the message was received, we’d be happy to investigate further and confirm exactly why it was sent.
Please rest assured that your pet’s existing registration remains valid and secure.
