Well I had been negotiating with a seller,Rob and he just pulled up and split unlisted all his items and was gone with no explanation or warning. Offerup sux, they specifically recommend not to use PAYPAL THE SAFEST ONLINE PAYMENT METHOD because of fraud and they encourage seller's to ghost buyers that they don't want to sell to and now to top it off they have you search for items by zip code to promote localized buying. Hey if I want to buy local there is a trading post or the classified section of the newspaper. Stick me with a fork I'm done. Seeyalaterbye bottoms up I mean Offerup.

I am filing this complaint to document a serious issue with Offer Up’s handling of both user safety and seller protections.

I was targeted by an Offer Up user who attempted to scam me while I was selling a Tiffany & Co. bracelet and a personal computer. The buyer falsely claimed to have sent payment through Cash App, then provided fabricated screenshots and a fake letter impersonating Cash App support. He further claimed he had sent an “additional $200” and instructed me to return that amount once my funds were released.

Recognizing this as a scam, I contacted Cash App directly and confirmed that no payment of any kind had been sent. I reported the buyer to Offer Up and submitted clear proof of the attempted fraud. Offer Up stated that the buyer’s account was removed.

Since reporting this incident, I have experienced what appears to be retaliation by Offer Up. My legitimate listings for authentic Tiffany & Co. jewelry continue to be removed repeatedly under the claim that they violate policy. This is inaccurate and unjustified.

The items I am selling are:

Both items include:

Original receipts

Original Tiffany & Co. packaging

Clear photos showing authenticity

These listings do not violate Offer Up policy, yet they are continually taken down while other similar listings remain active.

Offer Up’s actions suggest inconsistent enforcement of policy and raise concerns about retaliatory behavior against users who report fraud. This discourages sellers from reporting scams and undermines trust in the platform.

I am requesting:

A clear explanation for why authentic, documented items are being removed

Consistent and fair application of Offer Up policies

Protection for users who report fraudulent activity rather than punishment

Until these issues are addressed, sellers should be aware that reporting scams may result in unjust consequences to their accounts.

The problem is not so much sellers as the so called "buyers". There has got to be a way to remove the flakes from this app. Especially people that will not respond which is a chronic problem.
Then you get bombarded with stupid questions.
All of which could be answered if they were to simply read the post.
Then you have the address collectors that come unglued if you will not give them your address.
It's all crybabies
Whether it's Offer Up, Marketplace or Craigslist, anything coming from any these places is just a headache.

Sites like OfferUp are largely unregulated and can operate with little accountability. OfferUp is well aware that more than half of the items listed are not actually available for sale. Many listings are simply forgotten posts from sellers who no longer use the app, or items that were sold long ago and never removed.

Beyond that, scams are rampant. Highly sought-after items are frequently listed at unrealistically low prices, clearly designed to lure buyers. Out of greed or urgency, buyers are persuaded to communicate outside the app via text, where they are ultimately defrauded. OfferUp has been notified of these issues countless times, yet has consistently ignored the warnings and allowed these deceptive listings to remain active.

Finally, the removal of the shipping option has effectively destroyed the app’s usefulness altogether.

The app and the navigation of the entire process is ridiculous ... You can barely access, communicate and many messages come in a day or two later, people offering potential deals that now have lapsed and they've moved onto something else because of the delay ....

I need to build an app and raise over $200M, at least mine will have the capability to communicate with each other ...

Can't shop nationwide?! No more shipping? WTH! What a joke of a company. I live in a very rural area, so now I can only shop in BFE? I'm done with OfferUp. God I hope someone will buy this company and turn it back into something like it once was. Can't believe they would go back to the stone age. Fire the administration immediately. Deleting my account.

Offerup started out great. But now it's nothing more than an advertising forum. More stores than P2P sales.

I bought a gas Range from an OfferUP vendor named washer shop, owner Manuel, the oven never worked and they never fixed the issue in spite of 3 month warranty, they didn't even respond. We ended up throwing the appliance away. The vendor shows 5 stars on OfferUP website, meaning our complaint was completely ignored .
I would recommend people not buy appliances on OfferUP, especially from the Refurbishing, recycling vendors. You will be throwing away your money.

Nothing but ads and marketing scams. No longer offer shipping. It used to be such a great app. Sad to watch it sell out and become useless.

If I could give it a minus 5 I would.....they sell your information when you sign up....unethical way to make money and they charge for services that are free elsewhere!

I tried to sell something on offer up. They offer a 3-day trial. This sight is very unprofessional. They should send you an email notifying you that your trial is almost up. But no they just go ahead and change you. At least Amazon gives you a heads up to cancel. This sight should not be aloud to change your card without your approval. This sight is a scam. Will not refer anyone to use it!

I'm curious as to who is running OfferUp. It appears as though all the responses are from bots and using AI. I created an account today and verified my email. As soon as I tried to log in, I get a response that my account has been deactivated for violating group rules. I've never posted before or even had the chance to. I've tried to get in touch with them, but I keep getting an automated reply with no explanation and there's no way for me to talk to anyone about it. This company seems sketchy and I don't recommend giving any personal info to it.

used to love offerup. now it is just dealers and scammers selling.

I didn’t make no sells yet

I ve been on this site for 3 whole days as a seller. I got sick of the facebook scams so I left marketplace. I listed 12 items to start here. Then I realized that here I was going to be endlessly manipulated by OfferUp itself before they released me to the scammers who adore this site.

First - can’t recognize my location? I have to disable VPN and turn off Threat detection.
Second - Every time I begin a new entry it want to turn on my Camera fo and have always access. I’m selecting from photos, you don’t need access to my camera.
Third. Virtually no communication from anyone. 600 views and 3 messages. One of which wants my phone number. Block. Another was a ridiculous low ball offer, finally a moron asking if what I just posted is for sale. Moron
And then there’s the 3 day free trial and all the adds forcing you (forcing because it’s so prevalent you can’t even see anything on the screen) to push your item to 2.x mor likely to sell. I wonder if that’s even remotely true. I think it is - I think they obstruct you from selling until you pay this ransom and then maybe messages and views will start flowing. What are they offering up ? Deceit of course. And a whole bunch of unethical friends — the ones they really consider customers. Thanks. This was 3 days. Every social media site and these online sales sites - all designed perfectly for fraud, but not customers.o

I've been an avid user of Offerup for a decade. I tried to login today and was greeted by the message, "your account is banned." No warning. No emails or notifications. No explanation. I contacted support to figure out what happened and Offerup responded with, "we dont have to tell you." hahaha.

The exact wording "OfferUp reserves the right to remove items or profiles at its own discretion with or without previous warning or education efforts."

So after 10 years of active service and helping to generate revenue, I received no notice, just ban, with no explanation. Perhaps Offerup is trying to downgrade their site and push all of their customers to Facebook Marketplace?

Offerup has been going downhill for a while especially with bots and scammers, but they aren't the brightest in the shed. When the platform, Offerup, is just banning long-standing customers without reason, explanation, or notification on how to resolve whatever issue they are claiming happened, you can expect people will just enjoy other platforms that work with their customers for the mutually beneficial relationship.

Whenever I have an issue on Facebook Marketplace, Facebook support is available and super helpful to correct whatever needs correcting.

We watched as Craigslist turned into a cesspool and now Offerup is following the same path. At least I won't be required to endure the scams and abuse on Offerup any longer.

Good luck to those still stuck using Offerup, but try out FB Marketplace and other platforms. You may be presently surprised.

1 star because the Offerup platform has chosen not to resolve any issues with their customers any more and just ban accounts. Really poor business model.

I've been using OfferUp for a number of years; listing items for sale on their site has its faults. They never corrected sight problems. If I want to list a bunch of things, I always found other sights more user friendly.
Recently I posted a skirt suit and a pair of shoes. I get a quick response that my skirt suit is sold and they just need me to log in at a sight and give private information.
This is a common scam! I do not respond to these.
I periodically check my listings, for updates, interests etc.
I find OfferUp has deactivated my account. No reason given.
I got in touch with Support and the only so called support was an AI generic and same wording response over and over, no matter what questions I asked.
Finally I was asked if I want to speak to an actual person.
I submitted my Name and Email address per their request.
OfferUp responds, my email, which has been the same for a number of years, is NOT a valid one.
This is OfferUp's NON Support!
No emails following - No trying to get in touch -

I purchased a washer for $325, seller (scammer) offers 30 day warranty on all of their listings, they sell apploancess, we made the deal by messages over offer up, seller asked for the payment to be cash only, i didn't see this red flag, I though offer up was a trustfull site like ebay
The washer was delivered to my house and i got a receipt with the 30 day warranty, the first day trying to use the washer didn't work and seller never responded to my messages, I tried to file a claim with offer up, but customer support said they could not do anything about, i was to naive when paying cash, I am a boomer so I do trust people, sadly people turn to evil, can't trust anyone or any site like offer up anymore
