Switched to 5g broadband (3) and the Number people for my 'landline'
After years with a major telecom company (don't want to 'Talk' about them) and their terrible broadband service, I decided to utilise the 5g service in our area. It's been brilliant with download speeds far in excess of the fibre package they were offering. Now inorder to keep my landline number I had look around and settled with the Number people. So far they have been superb. If I want I can have 20 mins calling for only £1 per month! I've opted for 200 mins for £5 as well don't really use the home phone that much nowadays, try to keep on the inclusive minutes from the mobile service!
But this fits the bill perfectly, going to save money every month as well.
If your router doesn't support telephoney you can get a voip adapter for around £30 and you're away. But if setting required but they have a guide on the website page to help.
So far brilliant and thanks to the staff over there.

NumberPeople were very helpful.
Came across NumberPeople Web site and created a number. That was easy, then got it working on a voip phone and on my mobile. Great so far.
Recently switched the old land line number over to voip at NumberPeople. They were fantastic, explained the process and grabbed the number as it was released.
Noe I just need to understand the complicated service management portle which really could do with more explanation for casual users!
5 star service but a star lost due to the seemingly complex Web interface!

Good company but I don't like how they…
Good company but I don't like how they take the credit on your account even if it's not been used. I wanted to add a voice message so I added credit and before I go to add they they took over £20 of credit. This is the only down point with them.

We understand your concern about credit potentially expiring before being used. Here's how our system works to prevent that:
Credit Expiry: Your top-up credit does have an expiry date. However, as long as you make another top-up before the current credit expires, your remaining balance will automatically roll over for another 90 days.
Expiry Reminders: We also send email notifications in advance to warn you about credit nearing expiry. This way, you have ample time to top up and keep your balance intact.
We never want our customers to lose credit, so if you ever have an issue with credit expiring, just contact our team and they'll be happy to reinstate any lost credit after a new top-up has been made.

Really impressed with VOIP service
Really impressed - we recently switched to full fibre with CityFibre so were losing our landline. Applied to port over to Number People the day after our broadband was switched, and we had our old landline number back in use in less than a week. Our new router has a phone port on it, so we are able to configure VOIP on the router, plug our old phone in and it just worked. People rarely call the landline so we didn't want to spend a lot of money £1 a month is great. Highly recommended.

I signed up recently and had some issues setting everything up. Opened up the chat window, got connected to an adviser quickly. Her name is Nicola. She was just fantastic and so helpful. I had a lot of questions but she was so patient and knowledgeable.

A "Rolls-Royce" Application with unrivalled User Support
The Number People application has impressive functionality, catering for simple domestic use to complicated business setup. The beauty is that irrespective of how or when your requirements change, the details of your telephones and the way your calls are processed can be easily and readily changed to suit. The user interface is very slick and professional, and on smart devices gives the appearance of an App, despite being web-based. The application's look and feel is most definitely "Rolls-Royce". And who would not want to buy one, when it costs no more than a Mini?
"Rolls-Royce" is also the standard of the incredible support provided. It is both quick and effective, and thanks especially has to be given to the customer-facing team of Brad and Nicola. They recognised that I was raw to everything telephony, but nurtured me along accordingly. And in addition to help with the application, Brad adjusted my router settings, taking into account my broadband provider and my VoIP telephone base and handsets.
The application itself is based around 'services' that you want to perform according to the 'flow' of the call through the system. These services are well explained, with further online help available, and call flows are essentially a collection of these services. What would help novices' understanding is seeing how and when services relate to each other when defining flows. In practice there might only be a few different flows which would form the basis of the majority of customers' call flow requirements. These example flows would be of great help by providing customers not only with a start on which to base their own flows, but importantly with a better understanding of the system. That aside, the compensating support given was second to none. Thank you.

Not as advertised
First thing to note, you can't get this service for £1 a month as advertised because your credit expires after 90 days when you have to top-up and you can only put a minimum of £10 on at a time... So by the end of the year, you have put (365/90x£10) £40 in and spent (12*£1) £12, leaving a balance of £28 which you have to top up another £10 to rollover. Mad! There is an auto-topup feature which tops up your balance when minimum thresholds are hit, the minimum being £1, but you will only achieve that in the first 90 days of using the service because after that you have to put £5 on which will only come down to £2 in the following 90 days so you wont get the auto top-up feature again and you'll lose £2 (unless you top up again and lose more). So if you're pricing this service, its really £40 a year which compares to the likes of Skype and definitely others which are cheaper. Also to note is the app intermittently worked. The blame was put down to my wifi network which was stable with everything else I was connected to. Speaking to support, I was told several times about "this is stated in the terms and conditions which you have to agree to when signing up", yes, its that sort of company - the unhelpful kind!

Regarding the intermittent app issues, we're sorry to hear about your connectivity troubles. We have recently launched a new softphone which is engineered to overcome some common frustrating issues found in other VoIP apps, such as the app not ringing for inbound calls when your phone is locked.
Using our Cloud Softphone app, your phone will still ring even when the app is asleep in the background, so you should never miss a call again.

Applied to port over to Number People the day after our broadband was switched, and we had our old landline number back in use in a matter of days. The number is forwarded to our mobile number, with a little message giving advance warning that it is a forward, which is great. People rarely call the landline so we didn't want to spend a lot of money - the free number plus pay as you go incoming works for us.

If we have any suspicion that numbers on accounts are being used fraudulently then our fraud team and fraud prevention systems may suspend accounts accordingly.

Do not use!
Do not use!! This company closed my account and gave away my number to another customer with NO WARNING! I received no communication from them regarding this - no heads up, no solution offered. I am now having to replace hundreds of pounds in packaging because of them. Would never trust again.

Hello.
I am sorry to hear this, if a number has dropped off your account due to non usage then you would have received plenty of emails to indicate that you needed to take action to prevent loosing a number.
Firstly, you will need to test the service using the free test credit within the first 30 days by making a test call to your new virtual phone number, and making sure that the call connects.
If you do not make a test call to the phone number within this initial 30 day period then the number will be automatically removed from your account.
If you haven’t topped up your account after 30 days of your trial period ending then we will also presume you no longer need the account and it will be cancelled.
Additionally, our usage policy means that if your telephone number is not topped up within a 150 day period, then we will deem the account inactive and will be cancelled.
If you can get in contact with us directly we can see if there is anything we can do to reinstate the number back to your account.
