Very much needed. They made a step-by-step plan for what to do first, what to request, and what could be submitted later. They also checked that my signatures and dates were correct. Extremely efficient.

I study at Leiden University and honestly couldn’t have managed the document process alone. They explained the requirements in a simple way, reviewed my files, and pointed out missing documents I wouldn’t have thought of. They even arranged translations. Fair price for serious, reliable help.

They charge a lot and it really is not difficult. Ask a dutch student to help.

This is big SCAM. Normally it is free, but they ask 60% of your first (monthly) payment. DO NOT ASK THEM TO HELP YOU. Just visit a DUO office, which is COMPLETELY FREE.

This is a 'service' is created by people that should get a real job instead of praying on vulnerable people.
People just go to the DUO website and fix it for free in a couple of minutes.

Admitting for a student loan in the netherlands directly is free and only asks for:
Logging in via DigiD
Uploading the proof of registration
Uploading the details of payment of your tuition.

Asking hundreds of euros for doing this process for you is a scam and is in no means worth it.

I sincerely hope the government will stop this asap.

As an extra trick, if you find it hard to do this, most universities and college universities can I offer you help with this process free of charge!!

They do make it easy for you handling all the work for you. Especially as an international it is a great service. They do charge you a hefty sum tho. I belive it is 25% of your first payout. I only wanted to apply for the grant you get when you work 32h/month as an international. By all means I thought this was the only thing I was going to get since that is what I especially stated. However, in their fine-print they write that they will also apply the student loan for you. This is easy to miss. It definitely feels intentional.
As a service to help international students settle in their life in the Netherlands and help you navigate the Dutch bureaucracy they should make it REALLY clear that they also will apply you to the student loan. Their 25% charge rate is a lot bigger payout for them on the Grant + Loan than just the grant. Grant being around 300€ and loan being around 800-1000€.

Absolutely I could have read the fine-print better, that is on me. But as an international student newly moved to The Netherlands there is a lot to handle in the beginning. And a helping hand like this service is more than welcomed. But this is no helping hand, this is classic corporate greed.

I really regret ever contacting MyStudentFinance. They say they help students for free, but that’s not true at all. I ended up getting the money after I sent my documents myself, not because of them, and then they suddenly demanded that I pay them anyway.

When I said I didn’t think that was fair, they threatened to take my case to court if I didn’t pay on time and said I’d have to pay even more. It honestly felt like intimidation.

The person who was supposed to help me canceled our meetings twice and never even tried to reach out again. The service was terrible and completely unprofessional.

Be really careful with this company. They make big promises about helping for free, but in the end it’s not the case at all.

I regret ever signing up with MyStudentFinance. Their communication was unclear from the beginning.
Later, they suddenly claimed I owed them €300 as a “termination fee,” even though my DUO account shows no payouts and I never intended to take a loan. When I raised concerns, their tone became extremely rude, dismissive, and insulting, clearly trying to intimidate me into paying. Instead of professional support, I was met with personal attacks and threats of court and bailiffs.

This company preys on students with unclear contracts and scare tactics.

If you are a student, do not trust this company with your applications. Go directly through DUO, which is free. Save yourself the stress, money, and intimidation.
