Traumatic Experience - DO NOT hire Mile Relocation
After speaking to the sales person, my wife signed a $2,500 quote to move our stuff from our Colorado 2 bedroom apartment to Minnesota, which included the movers breaking our furniture down and setting it back up at our final destination, plus packing kitchen boxes and TVs. We got passed off to a quality assurance staff member (QA), which set the date of our move, and then said someone else would contact us about a Bill of Lading. Multiple people contacted us about this, which made it seem like a scam, we didn't know who to trust. We went back to QA, and then choose one of the people to contact, who had me measure every item, down to the inch. I was then given a new quote for around $3,800 which was confusing, because we had told the sales person about every item we wanted to move. I ended up having to break down the furniture myself, removing items on the initial quote, and packing kitchen items myself to get down to our original $2,500 quote. Ok, annoying, but whatever. I was also pressured into immediately signing this quote to ensure our move date would be secured. A couple of days before our move, we hadn't heard from anyone about a confirmation on our move date, so we called. A few calls later, they said our move date was no longer available, and that we would have to pick another date. This was a few days out from our move so we had no choice but to move out on that day. I told this to QA, and she eventually was able to get our date back somehow. We were told the movers would come anytime between 8 AM and noon. Two movers and a foreman showed up at 7:45 AM from a company called Best Moving Service. The foreman looked through our place and said our items wouldn't fit in the truck. He then gave us a new quote for around $4,800. I said that I had measured every item down to the inch for the $2,500 quote, so this made no sense for him to take a look around at the items and give me this new quote for almost double that quote. He wouldn't budge, and was extremely rude. I called Mile Relocation to try to figure this out, as they wouldn't start moving anything without me signing another contract for $4,800. Mile Relocation didn't answer immediately, but after a few calls, I got a hold of someone, who said they would call back. After 3 hours of this back and forth, we settled on the original quote; however, I was told by the foreman that they were not liable for our TVs if they broke during the move since we did not use their packaging. The sales person told us to use our own boxes for TVs, so this was frustrating to hear that they wouldn't be liable for breaking them. Once the foreman came back into our apartment, he was extremely rude and mean to my wife as he was insistent about getting his point across that the original quote was wrong. My wife couldn't handle this and broke down crying on our balcony. The foreman made me sign between 5-7 additional contracts, one of which listed the $2,500 quote as the minimum we would be charged and $3,800 or something as the maximum we would be charged. I was so frustrated at this point, because what's the point of a quote if it's just a minimum - it should be near the maximum or be the maximum you will be charged. I just needed the experience to stop, so I signed the documents. One of those documents was another Bill of Lading, which I had already signed a few days earlier with someone at Mile Relocation. He said it was for the TVs, so I signed it, but after I read through it later I realized it actually applied to all of our items. It gave the movers less liability if our items were damaged or broken, 60 cents per pound of item damaged, compared to the original Bill of Lading which would reimburse us for the entire price of the items that were damaged. After signing, they started moving our items. The foreman then said I had to pack the TVs myself since we didn't buy the packaging boxes or material from them, which was not what the Mile Relocation sales member told us. I then packed the TVs. After the movers were 75% done moving our items, the foreman said they would not take our 3 rugs and 12 of our boxes, since they were larger than expected. I measured the boxes down to the inch for the original quote... He then quoted us an additional $1,000 to move the boxes and rugs. I called QA which didn't help. While I was debating signing the quote, the foreman packed up and left. I then broke down crying with my wife. Since the movers didn't take all of our items, I had to rent a Uhaul last minute for $2,500, drive it across the country, and fly back to get my car. The movers showed up a week later with our items. Our 4 nightstands, entertainment center, dresser, and desk were all damaged by the movers. I called QA over 3 weeks ago to handle that. They said they would send me a claim document to fill out, which they still haven't sent. DO NOT hire Mile Relocation for your move; it traumatized my wife and I.
