I am writing this review approximately 2 months after Mike and his crew (led by Michael) renovated 2.5 washrooms (and extended the size of the ensuite closet, removed the popcorn ceiling in one room, painted a couple of walls) in my home, and I couldn't be happier with the results! From start to finish, Mike was professional, knowledgeable, and dedicated to ensuring that we were satisfied with the final product (in fact, they came by a couple of times after the fact to rectify a few minor things - e.g., one of power outlets kept tripping).
The renovation process was smooth and efficient, and Mike (or Michael) was always available to answer any questions I had or address any concerns that arose. They were incredibly responsive and kept me informed every step of the way, which made me feel confident and comfortable throughout the entire project. The team was in at 8am sharp everyday and sometimes stayed a bit longer to reach the week's milestone. In fact, they finished MUCH sooner than expected - in ~19-20 days with a crew of approx. 3 people (that's including the time required to complete some unbudgeted and unplanned work - e.g., leveling the floor in the master washroom).
The quality of the work that Mike and team did is exceptional. They clearly take pride in their work and pay close attention to every detail. The finished product exceeded my expectations and looks absolutely stunning. My wife and I are thrilled with our newly renovated washrooms, and we have received numerous compliments on the work that was done.
Overall, I would highly recommend MD Builders to anyone who is looking for a professional, reliable, and talented contractor to complete their renovation project. I can't thank them enough for their hard work, dedication, and craftsmanship. A big thanks for transforming our washrooms into beautiful, functional spaces that we love!
Soon after we had a leak in our house somewhere (not related to this project), and Mike was the first person I called after the insurance company, and he helpfully pointed me to a couple of folks who could help in an emergency. We are also currently in the process of pulling together some funds to do a basement renovation with MD Builders.
As a couple going through renovations for the first time, we were a bit nervous and unaware about the process - so in case this is helpful to others in a similar boat:
- Contractor quotes typically only include basic building materials and labor - we were on the hook for sourcing our own vanities, tiles, toilets, grout, paint, etc.
- Contractors, like Mike, often have preferred suppliers who can provide a competitive quote, but it also helps to shop around with other suppliers (we managed to find better deals elsewhere)
As with anything there are always areas of improvement that can help Mike take his business to the next level:
1. Some design tools to help visualize how things would look / help choose between different options - and/or design consultation services (esp. given the overall ticket size of these projects is in the 50-150k mark)
2. In some instances, greater transparency on why things cost what they do / why some items are more complex than they appear to. Not to say that he didn't do this, but there were 1-2 instances where things that appeared relatively simple (and did not add significantly to the overall project timeline) to us laypeople were rather expensive.
Overall very happy with the work !

M & D Builders came highly recommended to us by friends, who had work done in their own home and, were very pleased with the quality of the workmanship. Mike was knowledgeable, resourceful and, reliable. He skillfully coordinated the entire project along with the various tradespeople from start to finish, checking in regularly and responding to our inquiries as they arose. He was expedient in providing us with a flooring / tiling team who stepped in immediately when our own couldn’t because of a sudden, serious accident. The demolition and restoration team, Derek and Victor, worked quickly and efficiently, completing the kitchen, bathroom and entrance hall project ahead of schedule. Walter provided the electrical work for the added / supplementary appliances and lighting fixtures . We were very pleased with the end result and would highly recommend M & D Builders.

All three bathrooms of our house were remodelled together by M&D Builders. The team was great to work with. Mike Messiha was professional, knowledgeable and resourceful. The construction crew (Michael, Ted and Adam) was skilful, hard-working and respectful. The team managed the project well and completed it on schedule and budget. The new bathrooms look fantastic! We are very happy with the renovation and would highly recommend their services!

We hired M&D Buildings to renovate our first floor after interviewing six other contractors. Since we were removing a load bearing wall we wanted to make sure we can trust the person working on the house. From the beginning Mike was knowledgeable and communicative, answered all of our questions with patience and provided solutions. All permits and drawings were obtained in a timely fashion.
Mike and his crew were efficient, responsive and punctual. Demolition was done with minimal debris and they always cleaned up at the end of the day. Everyone who worked on our project was experienced and professional. Overall we had a great experience and would highly recommend M&D Buildings.

M&D BUILDERS a fantastic contracting company, comprising of skilled trades and design team. A few weeks ago, they took on my full kitchen renovation and it is close to completion. Love the results; any minor mishap is taken care of quickly and efficiently. Mike, project manager, is always available for any any questions i may have regarding the project. No matter the complexity of the problem, contractors, Les and Victor had a solution.. Thanks Mike and your crew for making this experience almost stress free.

M&D Builders did a very good job in renovating the whole main floor for our two-story house in Oakville. We relocated the kitchen and made it bigger; renovated the powder & laundry room; re-purposed the old dining room as a new office/bedroom. We worked with a kitchen company for the cabinets and countertops. M&D did everything else. The quality of their work is high standard, and their crew are professional and respectful. We're very satisfied with the end results, including the structural changes (i.e., a new steel beam added and a new wall for the open concept kitchen), the hardwood & tile flooring, the electrical work, plumbing, painting, new doors, crown moulding, etc. We would highly recommend them to friends and anyone who's looking for a reliable and reasonable general contractor.

A few things:
1) At our first meeting with Mike, he pointed out our plan would need structural changes, the drawing and city permit. Right away, we consulted a structural engineer and confirmed what Mike said was true. So, we knew he was honest and know his stuff. Other small companies who came before him didn't know about the structural change. A couple of big builder companies didn't bother to give us much details, they offered a packaged deal - pay first, details later. After some discussions on the details with Mike, we signed the contact with M&D. Our project started after March break, now is nearing the end, so glad we chose M&D.

2) Mike and his team are flexible to accommodate our needs. For example, we moved out at the beginning and then had to move back sooner due to unexpected situation. Mike and his team managed to coordinate and work with three of us living and working on the 2nd floor and completed the work. At the end of each workday, they always cleaned up the garbage and tidied up the site.

3) Mike and his team are honest and upfront for unexpected costs. They provide us options and professional advice based on years of experience but listen and respect our decisions as the homeowner.

After hearing multiple horror stories and never having any renovations done, I was hesitant initially, but my washroom was in dire need of fixing and had to take action. After getting several no-shows, slow responses and very high estimations, I, fortunately, came across M & D Builders who not only thoroughly reviewed the washroom but gave an honest assessment of what to expect along with a very reasonable price. Mike was open to listening to what we had in mind and helped us give insights and ideas of achieving the looks best. The process from the initial contact to the finished product was well organized and transparent. Mike had briefed us correctly on what we needed to do and what he could do and was even kind enough to accommodate us when we couldn't fulfill our requirements. Communication throughout the time frame was excellent. Now the washroom is complete, Mikes's communication has been fantastic, and he was open to listening to our concerns and resolving those issues as soon as possible. M & D Builder's work was sincere, and they made sure there were no issues behind the walls or within pipes, and immediately contacted us and asked for our suggestions when they saw something that may potentially cause harm in the future. They even took the initiative of going above and beyond our agreement to ensure that we got our dream washroom, for which we are very appreciative. Mike made the whole experience very knowledgeable for me as I kept in the loop of the entire process, and hence this is why I would contact M & D Builders again for all future home renovation projects.

I am very pleased by the renovations that were done in my condo. Mike Messiha (M&D Builders) as well as their staff provided an exceptional experience from design to completion of work. Mike responded almost instantly to my messages. He is always professional, courteous, and pay particular attention to detail. The quality of work was excellent. Any problems or concerns were addressed in a timely manner and were followed through until resolved. Overall, an excellent experience, I will definitely contact him for my next projects.

We hired M&D Buildings to renovate our basement bathroom and erect walls, install flooring, etc. in an unfinished area. So glad we chose them. The end result far surpasses our expectations! Mike, Les and the team were exceptional. Mike & Les checked in on progress regularly & were always available for any questions/concerns. The team were punctual, hard working, very respectful & friendly professionals. They kept any disruption to a minimum and left everything in an orderly fashion at the end of the day. As icing on the cake, the project came in on budget and was completed ahead of schedule. Thanks to all of you for a fantastic job. We contracted Mike M. and his team at M&D Builders (M&D) to renovate a new home that was purchased in the height of the COVID pandemic (May 2021). I found M&D online and was drawn to the company as a result of the various awards and high volume of 5-star reviews. When I called M&D, Mike was so responsive; he booked an appointment to bring in his team to scope the project, and he provided estimates within a few days. The new home was 60+ yrs. old and required that the electrical panel be replaced, walls come down, floors be replaced, bathrooms be renovated … it was not an easy request and I needed it all completed in 1.5 months. I received estimates from other contractors who came in for less (and made things sound too easy), however based on my interactions with Mike; his transparency in terms of information, detailed estimates, responsiveness to my texts, emails and calls, overall professionalism– my instincts told me he was the right choice.
I am happy to say the job is complete, I’m 110% confident that I made the absolute right choice. Throughout the entire process Mike guided me and made sure that I was aware of all stages of the process and the decisions made/that needed to be made with respect to the renovations. Absolutely nothing was easy in a COVID environment where we were under lockdown (try selecting fixtures/hardware etc. online because stores are curbside only!) – from permits to safety, these were certainly the most difficult conditions to do a renovation. If there was a problem, Mike consulted with me and provided creative, cost-effective solutions that were inline with my objectives. There were certainly surprises/issues along the way, but Mike managed all the tough conversations with trades/schedules and materials and everything. Quality and customer satisfaction is highly important to Mike; I know this because there were several times when Mike circled back to me to confirm that I was happy and satisfied with the end work. He demonstrated several times that my satisfaction is what’s most important – this is a rare quality today in the home improvement industry.
I am just so happy that I chose his company and chose him – he saved me time and money by virtue of his extensive expertise about construction, his strong ability to manage the project and of course his incredible network. I greatly benefited from his contractor discount in terms of materials such as flooring, paint, vanity etc. – he passed to me all the great discounts he has as a contractor. My kitchen & island are stunning, I love my bathroom vanity/tiles and hardwood floors – these are all suppliers where Mike referred me. Mike is highly efficient and effective at what he does. I could literally go on and on about my experience – it was just so positive. I have heard some awful stories from friends about their renovation experience and I am grateful that my experience was the polar opposite. I trusted my gut, did my research, and picked the absolute right company.. My family is thrilled with the end result and I fully plan to contract Mike and M&D in the future for our basement renovation/home extension. Thank you so much Mike !

Mike and his team with M&D Builders have been nothing short of amazing. Highly communicative from pre-contracting, through to job start and completion, Mike kept me up to date throughout. All work was clearly explained and all costs were transparent, clear and reasonable. Work was done on time and on budget while maintaining an impeccable attention to detail- no corners cut here! This was our second renovation with M & D Builders. This is the ONLY contractor we will work with! The entire team did a beautiful job, and brought our dream bathrooms to life. Two bathrooms (master and guest) were completely renovated, along with the removal of a closet at the top of the stairs, new flooring, and a new closet was built in one of our bedrooms. We hired Mike from M & D Buildings once again after our kitchen renovation a few years ago. We were familiar with the quality of work Mike and his crew provided and were very satisfied once again. Mike and Les worked closely together to provide us with renovations that we are extremely happy with. We had 2 bathrooms completely renovated. We also had the stairs completely redone and some painting done. Any crew who came in were very good at their job and they always left the house tidy. Mike always did an excellent job at communicating with us and then communicating our plans with Les' crew. If there were any issues that arose during the renovation, a solution was proposed right away, resulting in no delays. Mike was easily reached anytime we needed him and he always got back to us right away. He also dropped in occasionally to see how the renovation was progressing. Not only are we very pleased with the workmanship, but we appreciate that they made sure the renovation was done as quickly as possible-getting it finished in a shorter time than was originally planned. Overall, we would definitely recommend M & D Buildings for anyone looking to do a home renovation.

Mike and his team are excellent professionals who walk the talk and deliver high quality work, as promised! I contacted Mike to build a wall in my condo so I could sell with an extra room. I couldn't have been more pleased with the final results! The wall addition was seamless due to the high quality its construction. Both Mike and the contractor that built the wall were very patient with me and answered all my questions. The contractor was very considerate of my home and make sure to protect the furniture and appliances in his work area. He worked very quickly and efficiently! I was also very impressed that Mike took the time check-in with me each day, letting me know what was done on the day and what to expect next. Overall, this was a fantastic experience and I would highly recommend Mike and his team for any home renovations!

I had the good fortune of meeting Mike from M&D Buildings on a previous engineering project and his expertise was appreciated on a recent project that involved installing a Laminate Veneer Lumber (LVL) support beam.

M & D Buildings did an amazing renovation on the main floor of our house. From the first time we met to discuss the scope of our project, Mike went above and beyond to make sure we both had a clear understanding of what we wanted so that he could properly quote the project. Mike was very attentive to our needs, always returned calls and answered texts making sure ALL our questions were answered. Once the renovation started, the team worked hard and paid very close attention to detail, and checked in periodically with questions and presented good ideas. The team finished the renovation one week ahead of schedule and they did a BEAUTIFUL job! We hired M&D Builders to undertake a renovation of our entire main floor and the laundry room in the basement. The main floor includes a kitchen, living room, and powder room. We also removed a wall that divided the kitchen and living room. From start to finish our experience was extremely positive. Mike, our project manager is professional, thorough and realistic. He managed all of the work efficiently and arranged for any required permits and inspections. His engineering background allowed him to help us better understand structural changes we requested. He communicated with us frequently and kept us up-to-date on the progress of the work. It was very easy to work with Mike as he accommodated to our wants and needs to the best of his abilities and provided sensible alternatives to help us stay on budget.
The outstanding contracting team are skilled and produced quality workmanship. They left the house neat and tidy every night. Our renovations went quickly with almost no obstacles. This was my second time using M&D for a bathroom renovation, the first time having been an overall great experience. I don't expect any interaction with a contractor to ever go perfectly, but as with our last project, this one was basically as close as you could get. Mike and his team were professional from start to finish, always had time to address any of my concerns, and were flexible when there were delays on my end.

To top it off, the COVID lockdowns hit right in the middle of the project and we ended up having our vanity delivery delayed by several weeks as a result. Almost as soon as it was ready, Mike's team was in to quickly and safely finish the job.

As somewhat of a perfectionist, all of the work was completed with a high degree of attention to detail, and I couldn't ask for any better. I would definitely recommend them and will of course consider them again for any future work.
