I ordered an item and then did not receive an email confirmation of my order. I waited a few days and then emailed and I was informed by email reply that the item received had a flaw in it and that the company had requested another one to be sent and that it was due overnight. And I would be informed of the dispatch. Again, I waited a few days and still had not had confirmation of the dispatch of my order. Again, I made contact and was told that the item was to be dispatched tomorrow. Again, I waited for confirmation and when I sought this information was informed that it was to be dispatched that day. I do realise that there are sometimes hold ups when receiving and dispatching an order, however in each instance, I had to initiate the contact and follow up. The company didn't once proactively contact me to keep me informed of progress. Coincidentally, I had this issue with another company around the same time and they proactively contacted me, told me of the delay, remedied the situation and kept me informed the whole time. Not once did I have to chase them up and they emailed me when the item was dispatched. This to my mind is appropriate customer service.
